00:00One battle after another.
00:03Comic political thriller One Battle After Another took home the top Oscar on Sunday night,
00:08winning out in a face-off with Vampire Story Sinners.
00:12What a night. You guys, let's have a martini. This is pretty amazing.
00:16One Battle got six awards, with Paul Thomas Anderson winning Best Director
00:20and the Oscar for Adapted Screenplay.
00:23I wrote this movie for my kids to say sorry for the housekeeping mess that we left
00:30and this world we're handing off to them, but also with the encouragement
00:35that they will be the generation that hopefully brings us some common sense and decency.
00:42Sinners took home four awards after it had set a record for the highest ever number of Oscar nominations.
00:48And the film's lead, Michael B. Jordan, won Best Actor for his dual roles as twin brothers.
00:55I'm here because of the people that came before me.
00:57You know, Sidney and Denzel and Halle Berry and Forrest and all those actors who graced the stage
01:05and not looking for awards and not looking for acknowledgement.
01:12They're artists. They want to do the work, you know?
01:14Best Actress went to Irish actor Jesse Buckley for playing the wife of William Shakespeare, Agnes Hathaway, in Hamnet.
01:21One Battle also took home the award for Best Supporting Actor in Sean Penn,
01:26who was absent and frequently skips movie industry award shows.
01:31Best Animated Feature went to K-pop Demon Hunters, which also took the original song prize for Golden.
01:37It caps a record-breaking run after director Maggie Kang's movie became Netflix's most-watched film ever on its 2025
01:46debut.
01:47I just feel immensely proud and relieved, to be honest, because I didn't want to disappoint Korea.
01:54The show also took on a somber tone to honor the losses of two big figures in the world of
01:59film,
02:00actor-directors Robert Redford and Rob Reiner.
02:03Billy Crystal, star of When Harry Met Sally, said Reiner's films would last for lifetimes.
02:08The glitzy celebration, Hollywood's most over-the-top gala of the year, took place as the U.S. wages war
02:15on Iran.
02:16Security was tight in and around the ceremony.
02:19Organizers said they were working closely with the FBI and Los Angeles police
02:24after a federal warning of a possible Iranian threat against California,
02:28though authorities had cited no specific or credible danger to the Academy Awards.
02:33The show also masked the unease in the film business over where movies are being made,
02:38as studios chase tax incentives at lower costs elsewhere in the U.S. and overseas,
02:44weakening Hollywood's grip on production.
02:46And while Warner Bros., the studio behind both One Battle and Sinners, was the biggest winner on Sunday,
02:53its outlook is clouded by a pending sale to Paramount Skydance,
02:57a deal that will narrow the number of major film distributors.
