As the 2026 Iran–U.S. war continues to rage across the Middle East, Sergey Lavrov and other Russian officials have openly criticized the United States’ military strategy, accusing Washington of “misguided aggression” and warning that unilateral strikes undermine international law and regional stability. Moscow’s diplomatic statements have portrayed U.S. actions as reckless and counterproductive, emphasizing the need for balanced negotiation and adherence to global norms rather than one-sided military pressure. Russia has also condemned earlier U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian sites as “irresponsible” and a breach of international law, saying they risk further escalation and global insecurity.

00:00If they thought that in a day or in a few hours they will subdue an entire state, I believe
00:10these people now understand how mistaken they were.
00:14Iran protects itself, it responds to this aggression by striking. We need to make sure that all the participants, all
00:22the parties to this crisis situation stop actions that damage the civilian infrastructure and that causes losses.
00:32It's an immediate urgent thing that must be done and we hope that along with other reasonable countries we will
00:41promote this approach.
00:43Most importantly, it was unprovoked aggression, aggression that was certain to cause a reaction if those who planned these strikes
00:56against the Islamic Republic of Iran in the midst of negotiations for the second time and because for the first
01:04time it happened last June.
01:05If they thought that in a day or in a few hours they will subdue an entire state, I believe
01:16these people now understand how mistaken they were,
01:21how misguided they were. And of course Iran protects itself, it responds to this aggression by striking military infrastructure sites
01:34that the countries that attacked Iran have in this region.
01:39And to my deepest regret, also the Gulf countries cooperation Council member states are suffering from this and we urge
01:54everyone, first of all, the hostilities must be stopped, parties should sit at the table of negotiations, either still trust
02:02for negotiations,
02:05and secondly, as the immediate step. We need to make sure that all the participants, all the parties to this
02:16crisis situation stopped actions that damage the civilian infrastructure and that causes losses among the civilian population, both in the
02:29Arab countries of the Gulf and in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
02:34And in my view, it's an immediate, immediate urgent thing that must be done and we hope that along with
02:42other reasonable countries, we will promote this approach towards resolving this situation.
02:49Speaking about the situation around Iran, but we can see that implications are much more global.
02:58But once again, I emphasize this, we stand for, along with like-minded countries, we stand for the immediate cessation
03:06of the hostilities and looking for the political resolution.
03:09And Mr. President, President Putin has said this on numerous occasions, we are ready to facilitate these negotiations if there
03:17is, if we are required to stand as facilitators.
03:21We believe that we are capable of being facilitators in these negotiations, but when the American counterparts are saying that
03:33they want to take more than 400 kilograms of the enriched uranium that is held in Iran,
03:39and no matter how enriched this uranium, and if that's what they want, then that's not about being ready, being
03:49open for negotiations, it's not about using the facilitation
04:00opportunities with the Russian Federation, as it was the case with the Iran nuclear deal some years ago.
04:09So the Americans just want to get this energy source like they want to get all the energy sources from
04:19the Latin America, from the Caribbean, from the Persian Gulf, and in other parts of our West Planet.
