00:00Most people count down the hours until work ends, the minutes until school is over, the seconds until dinner is
00:06ready.
00:07But at the same moment, someone else is counting too.
00:11Not down to a meal, not down to the end of a day, but down to the end of their
00:16time.
00:17We meet people every day, but may not know their full story.
00:21Donna Woods from East Peckham has been battling with cancer since 2023.
00:25She's a reminder that although people may seem healthy, they may not actually be.
00:31Her message is short but powerful.
00:33If you can be anything in this world, be kind.
00:37Donna was diagnosed with colon cancer about three years ago.
00:41She had emergency surgery to remove a tumour from her colon, and once she had recovered from that surgery, had
00:47six months of chemotherapy.
00:48In August 2024, she was told the news that the cancer had spread to her ovaries and needed a full
00:56hysterectomy.
00:57She now lives with a stoma after finding out it had spread into her abdomen wall lining.
01:03It was surreal.
01:05It was like something out of the movies that you see, where you're taken into an office, people looking at
01:12you, waiting for your reaction.
01:14And a few of the staff at the hospital still actually remember me, because I was very matter-of-fact,
01:22okay.
01:22Like, I didn't think shock more than anything.
01:26Shock.
01:26One thing I would definitely say in regards to cancer, there's no right or wrong way of doing it.
01:32You've got to do what's right for you.
01:34I have found, for me, the hardest part has been the unknown.
01:38So, one thing that's really highlighted to me, since I have been poorly, is that you really don't know what's
01:46going on with someone.
01:48So, what I have found is, I don't think at the minute I look poorly.
01:54However, I really am.
01:57And how important it is to always be kind to people, because you really don't know what's going on behind
02:02the scenes.
02:05I'm not curable now.
02:07Mm-hmm.
02:13Donagh hopes to give back to Macmillan in thanks for the support they've provided throughout her cancer journey.
02:19She has described how her two Macmillan teams have listened, cried and laughed with her in times she needed them
02:25the most.
02:26Her efforts to raise £5,000 for them are still ongoing.
02:31Maisie Walker for KMTV, East Peckham.
02:34A requirement was on the right way.
02:35Right...
