00:00The film world has recently been focused on the Academy Awards in Los Angeles, also known as the Oscars, where
00:05stars gathered for the event's 98th ceremony.
00:08But here in the North East, we asked a different and, some might say, far more important question.
00:14If the region had its own awards, who and what would win?
00:20With a spoon, sir.
00:23Because it's best for price-wise, etc. And the food's okay.
00:28I don't, because I can talk to everyone at home.
00:31I would always say one of us.
00:33Really?
00:34Yeah.
00:35There's a pub in Gosworth called the Branly Arms. I love the food there.
00:39My favourite restaurant in Newcastle is Babouch's on the Quayside.
00:43It's actually the favourite.
00:45Sunday lunch, you can't beat it outside of your own house.
00:47You can't beat it anywhere.
00:49Really, really brilliant service.
00:50The people are beautiful in there as well, actually.
00:52The food's lovely and the people eat it in the eye.
00:55Good service. Perfect.
01:04Meat, just a meat pasty.
01:05Steak bake.
01:07Steak bake.
01:08Well, I call it a cheese pasty, but I work in London and they call it a cheese bake.
01:13But it's got to be a cheese pasty.
01:15Second is a combi pasty.
01:17Oh.
01:18Sounds so true.
01:19Oh my God, the cheese.
01:21They have new, like, cheese ball bite things.
01:24And then I'll probably, um, the sprinkle donut.
01:34The quayside.
01:36Um, I like the beaches, yeah.
01:38Yeah, time of bay.
01:40I walked from, like, Whitley Bay to St. Mary's Lighthouse.
01:45That was gorgeous.
01:47Just generally on the tine.
01:49On the tine, on the tine, on the tine, you know, tine ball, you know.
01:52Oh, the north is, it's got to be, uh, Alan Mouth.
01:54Alan Mouth.
01:55Um, I'm going to have my ashes scattered there.
01:57Not for a long time, obviously.
01:58Seahouses, Bambra.
01:59Uh, take the car, park the seahouses, walk along the beach to Bambra, have a drink and a light
02:05bite in Bambra and then walk back.
02:08Uh, Wollington, with all the crocuses.
02:11I've had just these photos, I can show you.
02:20Eddie Howe.
02:21I've got to be a little football.
02:23Everyone who meets him says he's a lovely, lovely boy.
02:26Um, so we'll go with Sam Fender.
02:28Why not?
02:29I mean, he wins everything anyway, so he may as well win my vote.
02:32Currently, Bruno.
02:33Previously, would have been Shearer.
02:36Everyone loves Sam Fender.
02:38Oh, yeah.
02:39And he played, maybe not 2026, but he played last year and everyone was pretty excited.
02:47Our own northeast choices reflected what people here cherish close to home.
02:51From favourite local foods to places we're visiting and things that sum up the region more generally.
02:57It shows how people connect with where they live.
