17 March - National morning forecast presented by Claire Nasir.
Transcript
00:00Hello and a very good morning to you on this Tuesday morning, which is cloudy for most
00:05with outbreaks of rain towards the north and also the west. The air is relatively mild
00:11but it is windy, gusty over the hills and mountains and this cold front here will sink
00:17southwards and weaken through the day. Colder air towards the north-west but the air is
00:21warming up further south and south-east. In fact, Wednesday will be the warmest day of
00:25the year we could see 19 degrees Celsius and a high pressure sits across the country through
00:30Thursday into Friday as well. More about that in a moment. For the time being, if you are
00:36stepping out, it's a windy morning, particularly across Scotland and Northern Ireland. Here's
00:40that band of rain. Now for most it's cloudy with some patchy rain and drizzle, poor visibility
00:45particularly over the hills as well as the mountains. Windy across Irish seacoast, breezy
00:51further south and east. Mostly dry here but even so, where the cloud is thick enough you
00:57could see some dampness in the air. Most places won't see any sunshine this morning but that
01:02will change. However, it is bank holiday for Northern Ireland. It's St. Patrick's Day so
01:07let's just pick up on some detail as we head through the day here. Lots of stuff going on
01:12as it has done over the last few days. This is that band of cloud and rain so it is
01:17a mostly
01:18dry start, bits and spots in the breeze and then that rain gradually sinks in as we head through
01:23the morning into the afternoon. Coming and going through lunchtime, we'll hang on to some drier
01:28weather down towards Belfast as well as Newry until probably later on in the day. Windiest conditions
01:34will be through the morning, gusty over the hills and those winds losing their stings somewhat through
01:39the latter part of the day. So generally speaking across the country, this is where the wettest weather
01:45would be western Scotland as you just saw there, Northern Ireland. A little rain ahead of it but
01:50notice across England and Wales and possibly eastern Scotland will see the cloud break and some brighter
01:56skies coming through. So some sunshine through the afternoon and feeling warm in that sun. We could
02:02hang on to more cloud for Devon, Cornwall, places such as the west of Wales but even so inland, some
02:09blue
02:10sky and sunshine temperatures 15 Celsius. A bit chilly towards the northwest with that brisk breeze
02:15and you're behind the cold front. The air is colder here. So through Tuesday evening and overnight you
02:21can see where that cloud is and also where outbreaks of rain are. Again it's edging its way towards the
02:28central belt of Scotland, southern Scotland through the latter part of the night. We'll see clearer skies
02:33skies across most of England and Wales. So it will feel colder than this morning, certainly under those
02:40starry skies and notice some showers just edging in across the northwest of Scotland through the early
02:45hours of Wednesday morning. This weather front stalls across central, southern, eastern Scotland. Northern
02:50Ireland seeing some clearer skies towards the west, perhaps a little dampness in the air further south
02:55and east and temperatures four or five in the towns and cities across England and Wales and also
03:00that western side of Northern Ireland, western Scotland. Through Wednesday then some fine weather. We'll see
03:06sunny spells across most of England and Wales and where you've seen the rain through the morning across
03:11southern Scotland it will tend to fade away. A legacy of cloud here, a few showers for the northwest
03:17of Scotland but most places will have a dry afternoon. Temperatures then rising even higher. It's going to
03:23feel warm in that sunshine particularly across England and Wales. High temperatures possibly west Wales
03:30we could see a 19 as an isolated chance of seeing a 20. However for northern and central Scotland around
03:3712 or 13
03:38celsius and we could see a 14 down towards Belfast towards the northwest probably only 13 degrees celsius. A
03:45lighter breeze across the Midlands towards eastern counties of England. So a fine day on the cars with
03:50that sunshine and then as we head through Wednesday into Thursday that's that weakening front and then high
03:56pressure drifts across the country. It will trap cloud under that high and as you can see that cloud
04:03will stick around northern England and southern Scotland through Thursday. So there will be some
04:07cloudier conditions perhaps some brighter weather further south and here's your outlook through Friday.
04:12Yes we are chasing cloud but quiet conditions to end the working week. Wherever you are, have a lovely day
04:19and I'll see you again soon.
