00:24In the large part of the game that we were the better team, I think,
00:30that is a moment where you have to score the second. I think we had moments to do so.
00:36Quite a lot and in the part of the game where it was more equal, that was the last 15
00:40to 20 minutes.
00:41On both sides, it was waiting for one of the two teams to score.
00:46They created the chances all in a similar way, the four or five moments they had.
00:51Long ball, picking up the second ball and then try to be a threat in moments like that.
00:56But we also picked up a lot of those second balls where we were able to counter-attack them.
01:01But from all these counter-attacks, all these four versus three, three versus twos,
01:04all these moments that I felt with the quality players we are having that we should be able
01:09to either get a bigger chance or when we have it to score it, we didn't.
01:13And then in the last minute we conceded the equaliser and then there's not a lot of time left
01:20to make up for it. How damaging do you feel it is? Two points dropped, could it have gone forth?
01:26Yeah, of course it's damaging, but it's how many times this has been damaging for us.
01:33We don't help ourselves at all. It's so many times this season that we've created much more
01:40XG or chances than the amount of goals we score. And usually in the Premier League,
01:45you see a lot of teams outperforming their XG, but that definitely is what we are doing
01:51throughout the whole season. And then a game still stays tight till the end.
01:57And we struggle to keep clean sheets. We haven't had as many clean sheets as you would want if you
02:05want to go higher up in the table.
02:10And yeah, that's a bad combination for picking up the amount of points we want to pick up.
02:25I think it's understandable for fans to be frustrated because it happened already so many times that they've seen
02:31the home team not picking up the points that they're expecting to us conceding goals in the last minute.
02:37Now it's up to us to bring that frustration to Wednesday and come up with a big performance
02:42because that we are all frustrated. That's completely clear. And it's now up to me and the players
02:50to take that frustration to Wednesday evening and show the fans the performance and the results they
02:58deserve because they've been supported throughout the whole season to us. And then if it happens so many
03:04times that they are done frustrated in the end of a game or after the final whistle, that makes complete
03:10sense to me.
03:12And why do you think that your team was not clinical enough to do?
03:20I was expecting you not to add today towards the question. I think we've not been clinical enough
03:25throughout the whole season. Yeah, tell me why. It's not the quality of the players, I can tell you that.
03:31We have unbelievable attackers that are able and throughout their whole career were able to score
03:36a lot of goals. But it's not only not scoring the goals, it's like I said, it's also if you
03:44want
03:44to have a successful season, if you are not able then to score the second or the third goal, then
03:49you
03:49make sure you don't concede. But we did. I keep thinking that with the quality players we are having, we
04:00will
04:01find moments, we will find games where we are hopefully outperforming the chances we are getting.
04:08And that's not what we are doing through large parts of this season.
04:13Why do you think that the team has these periods where they just don't have control of the games?
04:19I mean, there's just a feeling in the second half that we are going to get something.
04:24Why can either yourself or players who won the title last season, why can we not turn that situation around?
04:35No, I think because we are not able to score the second goal, because that would
04:41immediately damage the momentum of the other team. But as long as it's 1-0,
04:45of course, it's quite normal that with either the substitution the other manager makes,
04:49we're going even more offensive, going even more direct, taking more risks.
04:53That can lead for them to create chances, which they did. But it also led to
05:00them being very open for counter-attacks. And then
05:06the way we conceded, we didn't concede our chances by being too open or being too offensive,
05:11or being outplayed through the midfield, or being too late with the press. It's just playing over the
05:15press, playing the balls into our last line. And if throughout the whole game we never picked up any
05:22second balls, that is something then where you could say, yeah, but it's the whole game the same.
05:26But all the chances we had in the second half were when we picked up second balls and then counter
05:30-attacked
05:30them. But the three, four or five times during the game that we were not able to pick up the
05:35second
05:35ball, not clear it far enough. They were a threat and that's probably the belief teams have now when
05:42played against us. And I think we might be a bit anxious towards the end as well, when we don't
05:48extend our lead.
05:51Yeah, I think that's also normal if it happens so many times that
05:58that you start to think like that. And it's normal that the stadium has that same feeling.
06:09You said for large parts of the season it's happened to you. At this stage of the season with eight
06:15Premier League games left, is there much you can do to change that in terms of what you're doing, how
06:22you approach your games?
06:27I think approaching a game has not so much to do with the final minutes of the game.
06:33I think what you are trying as a manager or as a team to outperform the other team in terms
06:39of chance
06:40creation, you always try to create more chances than the other team because usually, usually that leads to
06:45winning more than you lose. So that means attacking-wise generate as much chances as you can and
06:52defensively don't give away as much. And I think throughout almost the whole season we've been on the
06:57positive side of that in terms of chance creation because we've not been a lot of times on the positive
07:03side of scoring goals or conceding goals and how to approach the last minutes of the game. I think
07:12if you look back on it, which is maybe not the nicest thing to do if you're a fan of
07:17us, but we've tried.
07:18I've tried a lot of things. I brought in Joe Gomez in the last minute of a game to keep
07:23the lead at Fulham.
07:24We conceded. I brought in Wata during the season to have that midfielder that picks up all the second
07:30balls. I've done attackers for attacker substitution not to bring a defender in. We've tried many things,
07:38but the way we are conceding goals is also constantly different. So unfortunately, the
07:45things you can try to do as influences from the side is in a defensive substitution or offensive
07:49substitution. I've tried many of them, but it hasn't led yet to us not conceding in the last minute.
07:59But we also have our chances in the last minutes of the game. Even today, in extra time, we had
08:04an
08:04unbelievable chance that simply doesn't go in. But it won't stay like that, I can tell you that.
