00:00I'm not Muslim, but I love the concept of Ramadan.
00:03I see it as I have 11 months of the year to do whatever I want, etc.
00:07And then one month of just discipline.
00:23I think the most commonly asked question is, are you Muslim?
00:26It's a fair question to ask, but no, no, I'm not Muslim.
00:30I'm not very religious myself.
00:32My family is religious.
00:33My dad is Ukrainian.
00:35My mom is Russian.
00:36Even though my parents considered this house religious, it was never priority in our household.
00:492021 Ramadan, I had a few good Muslim friends who were fasting and I just decided to join
00:56them.
00:56And then just followers on TikTok because I had posted a video and it had taken off.
01:01And I still remember the comments.
01:03Everybody was just like, join us.
01:04I was like, okay, like, let me do it.
01:19My first day ever fasting, I was pulling out weeds.
01:22A lot of weeds grew and I was like, oh, like, I'm fasting, but I'll be fine.
01:25And that was such a big mistake.
01:27I started, the first time was, I believe I had sushi that day and I was, that was the
01:33best sushi I've ever had just because you, you couldn't wait.
01:37Actually, I take that back.
01:39The sushi was good, but the glass of ice cold water was so much better.
01:55I've always had a huge dependency on food.
01:57I mean, obviously I should be eating, but it's such a big priority in my life, like that
02:02it kind of distracts me sometimes.
02:03It affects my mood, which I didn't know.
02:05And I don't like, so kind of breaking that habit of my relationship with food is very
02:12nice throughout the years too.
02:14It's just, it's a very peaceful time.
02:17It's really good mental clarity.
02:18In my opinion, I was personally going through some things the first year in that April time,
02:23and I'm pretty sure in the first three, four days, I figured it out in my head.
02:28I was just like, okay, like you'll be fine.
02:29Everyone has their own form of self-care fasting and the discipline is definitely kind of my,
02:33my form of a self-care and reset.
02:53I've gotten a ton of positivity, which I'm very grateful for.
02:56And I don't think people know how grateful I am for it because I did feel like I was stepping
03:02on toes when I first started and I never mind tension to offend anyone or religion, et cetera.
03:08I don't post about it as much because I've learned as time goes by.
03:12I do want to keep it a little bit private to myself because it is, it is a private kind
03:16of journey for everybody.
03:17A big thing that I want people to learn is it's okay to try something new.
03:22I think it's great to push yourself to learn, be a little bit uncomfortable with things you
03:28don't know.
03:32I think it's great to be able to learn, be a little bit uncomfortable with things you
03:33don't know.
03:33don't know.
03:33I think it's great to be able to learn.
03:33I think it's great to be able to learn, be a little bit uncomfortable with things you
