This is the world’s fastest hearse and it can go from zero to sixty in 2.26 seconds. Arne Toman created Madness – a turbo hearse, and set a world record for its 9.94 second quarter mile run at 137.76 miles per hour. Arne bought the 1996 Chevy Caprice and customised it in tribute to his favourite heavy metal band Iron Maiden.

00:09One man who could never be described as likely to be late for his own funeral is Arnie Toman.
00:20His hearse goes from 0 to 60 in just 2.26 seconds.
00:32And built to drive the world's fastest hearse.
00:36There is no other hearse in the world built to this level of performance.
00:45Arnie, from Chicago, Illinois, is vice president of AMS Performance
00:50and on investigating the record for the world's fastest hearse,
00:54decided to fit a 1996 Chevy Caprice with a 6-litre turbocharged engine, generating 1,000 horsepower.
01:10We've broken and currently hold many records for the different platforms we work on.
01:14But if you're not into that kind of car, it really doesn't mean that much.
01:17I was looking to hold a record that anyone could relate to.
01:21Something you could tell your mom about and she would understand.
01:23When Arnie started his project in 2009, the record was 13.72 seconds to cover quarter of a mile.
01:32While the build was in progress, a Transylvanian hearse took a new record of 11.6 seconds in 2010.
01:40So when Arnie's car named Madness, after his favourite Iron Maiden song,
01:45Can I Play With Madness, made it to the track, it had a lot of work to do.
02:06It set a new world record by covering a quarter of a mile in just 9.94 seconds, at a
02:13speed of 137 miles per hour.
02:26But for Arnie, this isn't quite fast enough.
02:32For 2015, we've got a new forged engine and a bigger turbo.
02:37The car is now making 1,300 horsepower, so I plan to make this record even harder to beat.
02:43Robo!
