00:00I don't envy everyone with really long hair
00:02because it gets in your face quite a lot.
00:17We could say that when someone is too nice,
00:22we should be afraid of him.
00:24We've been there now again.
00:27And white people who are too nice are sinister in this TV show.
00:31There's an element of that sincerity and earnestness
00:36that makes it kind of more scary, right?
00:39I think that's one of Sauron's tricks.
00:43He is the great deceiver.
00:45And the ultimate deception, I think,
00:47is when he presents himself as a very kind person.
00:52And I wanted in creating the character,
00:55I didn't want him to feel like a villain the whole time.
00:58I know that that's the role he plays in the story,
01:00but I think some sincerity in his message
01:04and in what he's trying to achieve
01:05is almost creepier in the long run.
01:09So, yeah, the nice people are definitely not to be trusted.
01:12Yeah, but it's also people who claim they're going to help you
01:15and to improve your lot.
01:19And that's what he does so well.
01:23And speaking about that,
01:25some of Sauron's suggestions are not so bad.
01:29We could say that he suggests things better
01:33than today's politicians do
01:36because he wants to bring technology,
01:39he wants to bring progress,
01:40but he has an end.
01:43So how can we trust somebody
01:49when we know that maybe there's something under it,
01:52but his suggestions seem so good?
01:55How can we face it?
01:57I think that's a very difficult question
02:00if you're applying it to life.
02:04I mean, in the context of the show,
02:06I think it's pretty irrefutable
02:08that you kind of have to trust Sauron.
02:10He doesn't really give anyone much of a choice,
02:13particularly in this instance with Celebrimbor.
02:15I mean, I almost forced you to trust me
02:17because I'm like, well, look what I can do.
02:20You have to trust me or you're screwed.
02:22Yeah.
02:23Walking out of the flames.
02:24Exactly.
02:25He presents himself to Celebrimbor as a god,
02:30as a messenger from the Valor.
02:31And this is what Tolkien said
02:32and this is what we do in the show.
02:34So which is a supernatural, almost religious,
02:39well, very much religious figure.
02:42So, you know, it's undeniable
02:44that you have to, you succumb to that,
02:46you know, if that happens to you
02:48in your place of work.
02:50And I think it's also human nature
02:52to trust in someone that is good, right?
02:54And that brings you a level of...
02:59If they present to you as sincere and genuine
03:03and just a nice person,
03:05it's in our nature we are to be trusting.
03:11Yeah.
03:12You just hope they're not a supervillain beneath that.
03:16And you also got a really nice let me in look.
03:22It made me think about the Puss in Boots look.
03:26How did you work on that look?
03:28Yeah.
03:29I don't know which bit.
03:31I mean, is that in the rain?
03:32Maybe.
03:33Oh, yeah.
03:33There's a couple of those.
03:35I actually didn't really...
03:37Oh, yeah, I know the one.
03:40I like...
03:41I think it's more just the way that the story's told.
03:44I think, again, that comes from just wanting to be...
03:50wanting to share this idea.
03:52Because they're so...
03:53I think that's where these two characters really connect,
03:56at least initially, is through, like, creativity.
03:59It's like two artists who meet
04:01and they want to talk about their art
04:03and share this stuff.
04:05And I think that, again,
04:06the way to approach it for me as an actor
04:09was to approach it being genuine and truthful.
04:12And then that's the best way of him.
04:13So I think that look probably just came out
04:15when I was trying to do that.
04:18And Charles, can everyone maybe think about
04:20Walter White in Breaking Bad
04:22when he says,
04:24I've done for me,
04:25I did it for me?
04:27Is Calabria a little bit selfish
04:30in doing the rings, in your opinion?
04:32Yeah.
04:33He's in pursuit of
04:38some unattainable glory
04:39that he doesn't...
04:40He can't quite formulate it.
04:42He can't quite...
04:42You couldn't talk about it if you asked him.
04:44But he wants to...
04:46He wants to achieve.
04:48And he wants to eclipse.
04:50It's mostly about trying to eclipse
04:52his grandfather's work.
04:55He wants to beat it.
04:57He has huge respect for that,
04:58but he wants to beat it.
04:59So he's always chasing his tail,
05:02you know,
05:04and has been, I think,
05:06for years and years.
05:07And this could be the moment
05:09that he achieves his life's desire.
05:12And Charlie, very quick,
05:13I was wearing Anatar's wig.
05:15It's amazing.
05:16And I was like,
05:17nice.
05:17Yeah, they're for sale.
05:18Where did you get it?
05:18They're for sale.
05:20The bow?
05:21No, it was very...
05:22It adds a lot of time
05:23and it's the practical element.
05:26It feels amazing.
05:28But practically,
05:29I don't envy everyone
05:31with really long hair
05:32because it gets in your face
05:34quite a lot.
05:36Okay.
05:37Thank you so much.
05:37Thank you.
05:38Bye.
05:38Bye.
05:39Cheers.
05:40Bye.
06:02Bye.
