00:29Did you help defining them
00:31and had the chance to add something to the characters,
00:36both in terms of look and personality?
00:38Yeah, I mean, the Roosters gave us full ownership
00:41over our characters.
00:43We were very lucky.
00:44I know Chris, you know,
00:46pretty much built his character
00:48from every detail to every prop
00:50to his style of his hair
00:53down to his walk.
00:55So, I mean, he curated his character
00:58pretty much from the second I saw him on set.
01:02I, you know, visually kind of created my character
01:06and then really built what she was
01:08and who she was during filming.
01:10But we were very lucky.
01:12The Russos gave us full creative control.
01:14Yeah, it was great.
01:14And what you see on screen
01:16is really like our kind of our brain-chill child.
01:19And we were very, very lucky
01:20to be able to have that kind of creativity
01:22and that playground
01:23to be able to build something special
01:25and unique for people to see.
01:26And for Chris,
01:27do you have something to add
01:28about your characters
01:30and your specific...
01:32Well, yeah, we, you know,
01:33the film is, of course,
01:34set in an alternate version of the 1990s.
01:36I'm a child of that era.
01:38And so it was really nice
01:42to take a walk down memory lane
01:43and think about the music
01:44that I was listening to back then,
01:46the various people in my life
01:47who had an influence on me at that time
01:48and to help craft a character
01:50that would help to sell the idea
01:51that he is a product,
01:52well, of the 80s,
01:53who's sort of past his peak
01:56and living in the 90s.
01:58That was sort of how
01:59I looked at this character.
02:01About that,
02:02about the setting of the 90s,
02:06what's your favorite part
02:08of playing characters
02:09in a world different
02:10from our daily life
02:12with no mobile phones
02:13and other tech stuff we have today?
02:15Yeah, I think that's just right.
02:17The best part about...
02:19One of the best parts
02:20about creating a world
02:22and living in a world,
02:24creating a character
02:25who lives in a world
02:25without technology
02:26is that it's a little harder
02:29to get by
02:30and I think that creates
02:31for more adventure.
02:32If Bruce Willis had a cell phone
02:34and die hard,
02:35the Nakatomi Plaza
02:37would have survived
02:39and the people inside
02:40wouldn't have been killed.
02:42There's just like adding
02:43a cell phone into the mix
02:44and adding the technology
02:45we have now into the mix
02:46makes it...
02:47A lot of the stories
02:48that we love,
02:50they'd be solved rather easily.
02:52So I like that about this.
02:54It's a specific set of challenges
02:56and allows for you
02:57to take characters
02:59on these types of adventures.
03:02Yeah.
03:04Even if the film is set in the past,
03:06its themes are very contemporary.
03:09What is the main thing
03:11from the electric state
03:12that reminded you
03:14of our daily world?
03:16Well, I mean,
03:17there's the obvious.
03:19we talk a lot about AI
03:21and the advancements
03:23in technology in the film.
03:25It's obviously not the main message.
03:27Our main message
03:28is taking the audience
03:30on this beautiful,
03:31fun-filled adventure
03:33where Chris and I
03:34are able to really
03:35kind of show our humor
03:36and the drama
03:37and there's so much
03:38rooted in love
03:39and family and friendship.
03:41But of course,
03:42we have a message
03:43of really reflecting
03:46on what your relationship
03:47looks like with technology,
03:48finding a balance
03:49with being present
03:52and in reality
03:53as opposed to being,
03:55you know,
03:55and basically being consumed
03:56by technology.
03:58So I guess
03:58that's definitely
03:59a conversation of today,
04:01but this,
04:02actually,
04:03this movie was made
04:04and thought of
04:05way, way, way
04:07before this conversation
04:09became a real topic
04:10and a primary kind of news.
04:14So, yeah.
04:16The electric state
04:17is full of robots
04:19that I love so much.
