00:00I'm in my own little Disney World.
00:13Robert, vampires have always been used as a metaphor to explain troubles in our community.
00:20I have the feeling that your Nosferatu talks about mental health. Am I wrong?
00:27I mean, I've been just really enjoying hearing all the different journalists' interpretations about what the film is,
00:35because I don't ever try to make a film with a message.
00:42You know, I'm just trying to get into the mindset of the period and the world,
00:46and that sort of just guides my hand and guides all my collaborators.
00:54But I think when you're dealing with something like Nosferatu, which is like a simple fairy tale,
01:01it's going to speak to different people in different ways about different things,
01:05which I think is, like, that's the best.
01:07You know, so, you know, for some people, it's about mental health or toxic relationships or, you know, your inner
01:15fears or, you know, whatever it is,
01:17like, or even, you know, right wing politics, you know, I'm glad that it's turning people on, you know.
01:28Whatever it is, it's inside us. That's for sure.
01:32Yeah.
01:34And the famous Shadows End is, we always seen it inside a house or a castle or a bedroom.
01:44Instead, you brought her outside, around the world. So, it's amazing. It's pure cinema.
01:51But why your hand, your Shadows End is all over the place?
01:56I mean, I just, I was, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's inspired by two other films, actually.
02:06Murnau's Faust when Satan is, is, is over the town with his wings and also Archie Mayo's Svengali with John
02:17Barrymore when he is, like, sending, broadcasting his evil thoughts to Trilby across the city.
02:26And, and Willem, your character, Prof Bonfrance, is, is a scientist for sure, but he understands that we can't rely
02:34only on technology. Do you agree with him? Are we relying, relying too much on technology nowadays?
02:42Don't get me started.
02:47Really. Um, listen, I hate to be, uh, yeah, no. Uh, yes, yes, the answer to your question is yes.
02:57No, just whenever I'm in a restaurant and I see, uh, whole families, you know, glued to their, uh, devices
03:04and not talking to each other, I think people have, uh, you know, we've forgotten how to, uh, communicate with
03:12each other directly.
03:13And I think that's a huge revolution in the evolution of people socially that, uh, of course we appreciate, of
03:23course it's apparent, but, uh, we won't know how radical it is until we see it really kick in.
03:30And if you look at kids, it's kicking in.
03:33And, and Robert, why the, the moustache? Why? Just tell me why. I'm curious.
03:39Uh, because that, look at, um, portraits of Transylvanian noblemen and see if you can find one without one.
03:50I mean, obviously like, you know, Vlad the Impaler is, uh, clear, uh, is, is, is something that everyone knows
03:58with, if you don't feel like Googling.
03:59And you once said that you, if you could, would live in the Sleepy Hollow's village. Are you choosing your
04:07movies to live in Sleepy Hollow's village every two, three years?
04:11A little bit. A little bit. I think that, um, there, that, you know, I, I feel truly privileged and
04:20humbled to be doing this.
04:21Like, this is what I wanted to do. And not everyone gets that. Very few people do. So I don't
04:26take it likely, likely, but I, but one, and one of the things that is so incredible is like, I'm
04:32in my own little Disney world, you know, like what, of, of the ship that's been in my brain and
04:37it's made physically, you know, it's, it's really cool. Uh, it is overwhelming at times.
04:43Okay. Thank you so much. The movie is amazing. And I have to thank you because you helped me, um,
04:49elaborate some trauma that I live in during COVID. So thank you so much. Thank you.
05:21Thank you.
