00:00I think King Kong's really cool, but I'm Team Godzilla.
00:21First of all, Team Godzilla or Team Kong?
00:25That is a tough choice.
00:27I mean, I think for now, we have to be Team Godzilla.
00:31I'm Team Godzilla.
00:32I don't think we have a choice.
00:33I really like, I think King Kong's really cool, but I'm Team Godzilla.
00:37There's something about, he was my first.
00:39Yeah.
00:40I was like 6'7".
00:41Yeah.
00:41First.
00:42First to all, of course.
00:45And monsters can be a huge and powerful metaphor.
00:49In your opinion, what have we learned from monsters?
00:52Well, I think in this show, you're concentrating on the people that are trying to figure them out as much
01:00as they are trying to survive them.
01:02So I think the big questions that begin to sort of surface are, really, where are they from?
01:07They're not dinosaurs.
01:09And what are they about?
01:12They don't seem to get along.
01:14They seem to be fighting each other all the time.
01:17There are like the spider things.
01:20They'll group together.
01:21But in generally, they're just fighting each other.
01:25Why?
01:26What is their purpose?
01:27And it's the people that are finding out about some monsters in their own families that are dealing with it.
01:36And the character we play, of course, brings the two time periods together to create some mystery about it as
01:42well.
01:42Try to add to that.
01:43Great answer.
01:48You play the same character and, of course, you know each other really well.
01:53So it's just strange.
01:54Maybe sometimes you say to each other, let me give a better look at you.
01:59Let me see something for you.
02:00Each other play the same character.
02:03Yeah, there were things that we knew would be inherently genetic and that would come through that were idiosyncratic.
02:10There were things that we wanted to cinematically blend the two time periods together.
02:18So when my face, when your face blends to my face, it really, you know, it's one of those cool
02:27things where it's always in, I love it in movies when it's show, don't tell.
02:32So understanding that, like, oh, wow, okay, this guy really does connect the time periods together visually was really important.
02:41And then just story-wise, going from someone who doesn't believe in monsters, doesn't think monsters are real.
02:47He's a product of World War II.
02:51The monsters were very human, very real, the worst of humanity, and then it was like, how could it get
02:57any worse?
02:58And now you're finding a guy who sees things that nobody ever thought were possible.
03:04And then getting to that part of the older Lee was just important that whatever happened made sense with who
03:13he became and who he was in the past.
03:16Yeah, why I was laying this character down, so I was going to be many, many years later tracking it
03:24at a different time and as a much older man.
03:28So it was fun to kind of find the things there that made sense and made mystery.
03:33If you are both huge fans of Godzilla, it is an amazing moment for Godzilla fans because they're out everything
03:40about him.
03:42So are you glad? Are you a fan too? Why do you love him so much?
03:47It's a pretty good time for Godzilla right now.
03:50You know, he's got a 10-hour streamer on Apple+.
03:54There's a really great movie, I guess, the Japanese movie that I haven't seen yet, but everybody seems to love
03:59it.
03:59Great.
04:00And another one coming out.
04:01It's really good, yeah.
04:01Have you seen it?
04:02Really good.
04:03Okay, well we're going to, we're going to, it reminds me of when I had to play Elvis.
04:07It was like people would talk to me about Elvis and I didn't know anything about Elvis.
04:10And suddenly it was doing, and then you get researched and stuff and you suddenly know everything about him.
04:15So now we're finding out about Godzilla, I'm finding out all about Godzilla now.
04:19You know, it's a good moment for Godzilla, that's for sure.
04:22Huge moment, yes.
04:23Thank you so much.
04:24It was a pleasure.
04:24You're both amazing.
04:26Thank you.
04:26Thank you.
04:26Bye.
04:29Thank you.
04:29Thank you.
04:30Thank you.
04:31Thank you.
04:34Thank you.
04:36Grazie a tutti
