00:19Arthur made me think an animal locked in a cage.
00:24Did you get inspiration from some animal for your role?
00:30Um, yeah, it was a real opportunity to show these, um, this transformation from Arthur to Joker
00:39and the body language of Arthur, somebody that's wound tight and feels inadequate and insecure
00:47and Joker and feels like somebody that is completely comfortable in their skin.
00:53Um, and so it was just really important, I thought, to see those two sides of the character.
00:58There are brilliant, um, I mean, right here just in poster, that staircase, um, there are
01:04amazing, uh, locations that we had and the, the sets that, that, uh, Market built were just
01:10astonishing and, and obviously it's a really big part of the performance and all the work
01:16that you do, you are reacting to the environment, um, and so there was just, you could, you
01:22could, you absolutely could feel the locations and the sets.
01:25You made laughing look so painful.
01:31Honestly, the, there were several weeks in the beginning that were a real struggle in which
01:37we were just trying to find it.
01:39Um, you know, you always kind of, you're in this bubble in some ways where you're just,
01:45you sit in your apartment, you go through the script and Todd and I would talk about ideas
01:49and I had references that I'd pooled of people that I'd studied and I kind of had this, I've
01:56kind of had this idea and to be perfectly frank, it, at some point after a couple of weeks,
02:02I was like, this isn't working.
02:04Um, and so, so then we kind of had this like radical shift in how we were approaching it.
02:10Um, and that's terrifying, but also very exciting.
02:14And to have, um, someone like Todd, who's so smart and such a seasoned filmmaker, um, to
02:23kind of help guide me through that process and to allow me to make mistakes and to encourage
02:29it.
02:30Um, so, you know, we've got to try and be bold and there's, you know, it's okay.
02:36He, he's very smart because he really insisted on a long schedule, having a lot of days to
02:41shoot.
02:42Um, and he told me that early on, I thought we don't need that much time.
02:45I'm so happy because this character keeps revealing different parts of itself, like
02:51throughout the entire shoot, um, up until the very end, we were discovering things, um, about
02:57him that we hadn't anticipated.
02:59Um, so it was, it was, it was exhilarating.
