00:00The London Assembly has heard Londoners face a unique overheating risk in their own homes
00:06due to climate change affecting a densely built environment and an outdated planning and design
00:12system. According to City Hall, extreme heat is becoming an increasing issue in London,
00:18with more than a tenth of the 3,271 UK-wide heat-related deaths in 2022 occurring in the
00:27capital. It says this is due to the city's increasing density of buildings and roads leading to the urban
00:34heat island effect. City Hall is currently drafting London's heat risk delivery plan,
00:39which could include cool spaces around the city and thousands of water refill points.
