00:20The leader of this sect a couple of years ago has been arrested in France. What do you thought that
00:26is interesting to talk about this story?
00:29It was a psychological inquiry, actually. I genuinely was curious about how these kind of worldly educated people had managed
00:42to get what the process was that they had gone from being guided by an organisation or a school
00:51into being, abandoning some of their own instincts and being, serving something that was greater than themselves that wasn't good
01:01for them.
01:02I wanted to understand the mechanisms by which that happened. And secondly, it was also the fact that when we
01:08started making the series, the Guru Bivalaru was still operating in Paris and women were still going to visit him
01:16for initiations.
01:17He is actually arrested in the process of our filmmaking. And so we felt at that stage that this was
01:23something that had a kind of journalistic purpose, that it wasn't a retrospective story.
01:29This was something that was unfolding in front of our eyes and it was of public interest.
