00:05In the special effects business, you're a legend in this field.
00:09You've worked on great productions.
00:12I'd like to know how your work, how this business has changed in the last few years
00:16and how it has evolved since you first started.
00:24Well, over the last few years, there have been big economic changes in the industry.
00:30Both with the studios demanding work we've done at lower and lower prices,
00:37combined with large subsidies from countries like Canada and Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand,
00:50that have distorted the economy somewhat
00:54and made it really very difficult to operate in the business
01:01if you are not in one of the tax-incented countries.
01:06So that's been a big challenge for ILM being a company that until recently was entirely based out of the
01:17U.S.
01:23You've worked with among adults, James Cameron, Martin Scorsese, J.J. Abrams, Gore Verbinski and so on.
01:30So we are directors who have very creative and personal visions.
01:35What was the biggest challenge in working with each of them
01:39and what was their approach to special effects, if you can recollect them?
01:46Well, the best directors, the ones that are the most enjoyable to work with,
01:51are the ones that really understand visual effects as a tool like any other tool of cinema
01:58and they know how to use it for maximum effectiveness.
02:04A very important part of my job, probably the most important part of my job,
02:08is to really forge a good communication with your client,
02:13to really wrap your head around the director's vision
02:16so that during the day when I'm making a thousand decisions
02:23and sending things in different directions,
02:26that I'm doing that ideally in the same way that the director would
02:30if they were there to make those same calls.
02:36Ultimately, my job is to try and enable the vision of the director,
02:41to try and create the imagery that they've realized,
02:46the imagery that they've got in their head.
02:48And the third question is about Star Wars.
02:51I'd like to know if you are already involved in a new Star Wars movie or movies,
02:58and if you can tell us anything about what's coming.
03:03We're working on new Star Wars films.
03:05Episode 7 is in pre-production right now.
03:09And that's really about all I can say.
03:11Roger Guyet will be supervising that work, so it won't be me.
03:14Thank you again.
03:15Thank you.
03:15Thank you.
03:15Thank you.
03:16Thank you.
03:16Thank you.
03:22Grazie a tutti
