00:00This is without doubt the strangest golf club I've ever tested, but is it just a gimmick or
00:05could it be a game-changing product for certain golfers out there? That is what I'm going to try
00:10and find out in this video. Right everyone, I'm here at Burley Park Golf Club, my home club,
00:24to bring you something very special. Now we've seen adjustable drivers down the years, even
00:29interchangeable weights on irons. I don't think you've ever seen anything like this. It takes it
00:34to a whole new level. This is the Q Gen 2 adjustable golf club and there's two big talking points
00:42with
00:42this club. The first, as you've probably noticed, is it comes in two parts. So you screw it together
00:47to make a club, but you can take it down into two parts and that makes it much easier to
00:52travel with.
00:53You like playing golf abroad, you can fit this in your hand luggage, your rucksack, definitely in
00:58your suitcase. So it's going to make traveling abroad and make you able to play golf abroad much
01:03more easier. This comes with eight different loft settings, ranging from a four degree putter
01:08all the way up to a 60 degree lob wedge. So you've essentially got eight clubs in one with this
01:14Q Gen 2
01:151 Club. And it's pretty straightforward. All you do, slot it in. It takes a while because obviously it
01:21needs to be very secure. You don't want the other half flying off while you're swinging. So there you
01:27have it. It's all tightened up now. It's actually got a longer grip on it with different markings,
01:34so you can use it for wedge play or obviously putting. And it works like this. So basically,
01:40you can see here, you've got these eight different settings. You push it in
01:44and twist. So you've got your putter there and you've got your stinger hybrid 12 degree
01:49stinger setting. Then you've got a hybrid eight iron, six iron, etc, etc. Pretty simple to use.
01:55We're going to play three holes here at Burley Park. We're on the 15th, so you're going to play 15,
01:5816, 17. See how it copes with the different holes, different shots, different lies,
02:03and see if it's a genuine option. Walking around a golf course with just one club gives you a lot
02:07of
02:08freedom. But how does it actually work in practice? Let's find out. Right, we're on the
02:13tee of this par four here where I would normally use driver, but for this particular club, I'm going
02:18to go for the stinger settings, that sort of 12 degree loft set. And I've got to say, down at
02:24address,
02:24it actually looks quite nice. There's obviously a lot of real estate behind the ball here in this
02:30setting. Not a lot of loft on show, but actually looks pretty inviting to hit. And obviously, this is a
02:3638-inch club, so the same length as my seven iron, so I'm not going to generate as much speed
02:41as versus my driver with this club. I would normally hit a driver, obviously, on this par four. But
02:46I've got to say, having made a few practice swings, this is a regular flex graphite shaft,
02:52but it definitely feels a lot stiffer than that. I think obviously because you've got this point where
02:58it joins the pieces together, that feels like it adds a little bit of stiffness and rigidity to the
03:01shaft, doesn't feel like it's kicking as much as a normal seven iron length graphite shaft would do.
03:08So hopefully, I think it's going to play a little bit stiffer than a regular flex shaft. So I'm
03:13excited to have this give it a try. I mean, we're on the 15th here at Burley, there's bunkers 220
03:19down the right, 240 odd down the left. I would normally hit driver here and carry those. But let's
03:26see where this 12 degree stinger setting takes us. Well, it wasn't my cleanest of hits, but hopefully
03:39you saw how low that went. I think the stinger setting is potentially only for very high speed
03:44players, but it felt all right, felt pretty good off the face, was a slight missed hit, but it's down
03:49there, it's on the fairway. Let's go and see where we've finished.
03:54I have to say that the idea of just walking around the golf course, not carrying a bag,
03:59just literally carrying one club and some tees in your pocket is very appealing. I love the freedom
04:04it gives you. Obviously, if you need to carry your waterproofs or other things with you, it's not
04:10going to be ideal. But if it's a nice summer's day and you set up for a quick nine holes
04:15maybe,
04:16just having to take one club out with you, I think there's a lot of people that really enjoy that.
04:20And I've got to say, I'm fully on board with it. Right, I'm pretty happy with that one. It's
04:26actually gone pretty far, level with that bunker. So it's gone about 220 off a miss hit. Very happy
04:31with that. How far have we got here? We've got 185 yards. So that feels like we can go into
04:41the
04:42six iron setting. Right, so I'm now in this six iron setting and this is where it starts to get
04:47a little
04:47bit strange down at address. You can see here how the leading edge sits quite a long way in front
04:53of
04:53the hosel and you've got this big gap here, obviously, where you push it in to twist the
04:57settings. So it's not the best looking club at address, but it's definitely function over form.
05:04So let's see if it actually delivers a decent shot on this approach shot.
05:12Well, it's dead straight. It looks like it's gone absolutely nowhere.
05:16Now it's come about 15 yards short. So definitely distance output, I would say,
05:21looks like it's a little bit reduced. Turf interaction was a little bit clunky. Obviously,
05:25you've got this very wide sole on here, but not a horrific result. We're on the fairway,
05:30just short the green. Chance for a par. Let's see if we can play a pretty standard short pitch shot
05:37in this sand wedge setting.
05:49Again, didn't really give me the speed I was expecting. It's come up a little bit short.
05:54Didn't get that check either that you normally get with a 54 degree wedge. It did release out quite a
05:59lot,
05:59which helped me out there because I didn't hit it hard enough, but we're on the green and putting.
06:11Yeah, I've tested this before and I've hit putts long further than I thought because obviously the
06:16face is built for speed off the tee and off the fairway. So putts tend to roll out a bit
06:21further
06:22than they expect, as I've done here. I've left myself with a horrible little left to right downhill
06:28knee knocker for my bogey, which is not what you want. Obviously, it doesn't have a putter grip on
06:33it, so it doesn't have that flat front edge, so it doesn't feel overly comfortable on the greens,
06:39I have to say. See if we can knock this in.
06:44Oh, there we go. Bogey. I'm not unhappy with that one at all. Let's go play the next two holes,
06:51see if we can make a birdie. 16th, par three, 152 yards, gone with the eight iron setting. See,
07:00here we go.
07:09Oh, just crept in the bunker. That wasn't a bad shot. Let's see how this fairs in the sand.
07:18Right, found the bunker, and this is where I feel like this club might be quite difficult to use.
07:23Obviously, it does have a nice wide sole, which should help. I've got it in this 60 degree setting.
07:29I'm going to grip down. I mean, this looks very strange, I have to say, this club in this setting,
07:36but let's see how it actually works out of the sand. Oh. I mean, I'll take that. What's interesting
07:51is that when you twist the head to give it more loft, it feels like the leading edge actually
07:57comes up quite a lot. I don't know if you can see that, so there's a lot of effective bounce
08:01on here,
08:02which was a little bit disconcerting when I was looking down at it, but it did get under the ball
08:08and popped it out to a reasonable distance. So it is playable out of the sand,
08:12maybe not going to give you the finesse or versatility that better players might look for.
08:19Well, that's horrific, but not disastrous. Two bogeys, one hole left.
08:31Right, hole 17 normally will be a driver and he can get over those trees on the right,
08:37but with this Q Gen 2 club, it's going to have to go for the stinger setting and sort of
08:42nurdle it between the two sets of trees. So it actually makes the hole quite a lot more difficult,
08:46but let's see if we can get a good one down there.
08:55Gosh, it barely got off the ground, but it's on the fairway, still chasing down there.
09:02Yeah, maybe we want to tee it up a little bit higher than what I just did in that
09:07stinger setting, but it's in play.
09:10Right, final approach shot, got about 180 yards, need to get some height on this because it's,
09:15the pin is tucked over the bunker. So I'm going to try and get in the six iron setting,
09:20get a bit of height on it and get that curry in those bunkers.
09:32Space shot, space shot.
09:36Well, you can probably tell, not my best hit. I've got to say, actually, when you hit it on the
09:44ground,
09:45obviously it's got moving parts in it, so it feels a bit sort of rattly and I don't know if
09:51you can
09:51pick that up. But obviously the actual shaft is, you know, that's not moving, the head's not moving,
09:58like when I'm trying to twist it without pushing it in. So it doesn't feel like there's any sort of
10:03movement there, but I don't know, when you don't strike it, especially off the bottom of the face,
10:08it feels especially bad. So yeah, not the most forgiving. You've got to be a pretty good ball
10:14strike, I think, to get the most out of this, which I wasn't today.
10:18All right, so I've got my 60-degree setting. The lie's not great. So it's interesting, obviously,
10:24when that loft setting, as I said, the leading edge looks like it's quite high. So you feel like you
10:27need to lean the shaft forward to get the leading edge down, but then obviously that takes loft off.
10:34So it's a bit counter-intuitive. On a shot like this, you've got to get it up and over the
10:39bunker.
10:40And I could play a little Seve chip and run through the bunkers, but let's try this 60-degree setting
10:46and see if we can... I mean, see how the ball reacts on the green as well, because...
10:56I couldn't have played that any better, to be fair. That's actually done all right,
11:00it's about eight feet left of the pin. Maybe I pre-judged it, it's actually done okay.
11:06All right, oh, we've got to change it into my... Oh no, it's a patter setting. Right, we're good.
11:10Right, it'd be nice to finish with a par, wouldn't it? Not disastrous by any means. Left edge.
11:23Oh, there we go. A par. I'm pretty happy with that. So there you go. Hopefully you enjoyed that little
11:29look at the very strange and bizarre Q Gen 2 club. And I think, in conclusion, would I use a
11:38club like this?
11:38Probably not. But I did enjoy the freedom of walking around holding just a club. I certainly felt a lot
11:44freer, more energised. It's not conforming to the rules of goals, it's not for serious golfers,
11:50it's not for competitive golfers. But if you play a lot of social rounds, you want to save a bit
11:54of
11:55money on your travel costs, you want something that's going to give you versatility in terms of
11:59having eight different clubs in one, essentially, it could be well worth a go. The feel wasn't great,
12:04wasn't the most forgiving. And off the tee, I think it's probably off the tee where it struggled the
12:08most, to be honest with you. If you're trying to get for distance with the stinger setting,
12:13it's not going to give you a lot of height. But iron play was okay, although I didn't really show
12:19it off very well. Short game's actually all right. I was very surprised with this pitch shot that I just
12:22played here. It's not the most versatile, but definitely functional around the greens
12:27and on the greens. And don't forget, that one length concept is very in right now with people
12:32like Bryson. So, you know, obviously having lots of different loft setting in that one length could
12:38benefit your consistency in terms of your setup position. So there you have it. Jury's out. Let
12:43me know in the comments, what do you think about this club? Is it just a gimmick? Or would you
12:48generally consider using it? I would love to hear from you down below. But that's all for me here at
12:52the
12:52beautiful Burnley Park Golf Club. I'll see you next time.
