00:41We are led to feel empathy or sympathy for the humans
00:44and what they've had to go through to endure
00:47after ten years of living through a horrendous pandemic
00:50which has killed many, many millions of people
00:52They've already killed off half the planet already
00:54Come on
00:55What?
00:56You can't honestly blame the apes
00:58Who the hell else am I gonna blame?
00:59It creates tremendous civil unrest
01:01and then with that civil unrest
01:03comes essentially the break apart of civilization
01:05I think what Matt has done really beautifully
01:08in this giant summer movie
01:10is create these really intimate emotional experiences
01:14between the characters
01:15Caesar as an ape is when he relates to Malcolm
01:18played by Jason Clarke
01:20he sees a man who is in a sense
01:22trying to do what he is trying to do
01:24which is to bring you know
01:26to ensure the survival of his species
01:29It is a story very much about family
01:31and protecting what you love
01:33There is another possibility
01:35or an idea
01:36They are animals!
01:37No!
01:37Don't wait!
01:41The movie is really sort of focused thematically
01:44around the question of empathy
01:45and the question of understanding
01:47because the story takes place within the Planet of the Apes universe
01:52we know what it becomes
01:53it becomes the world of the 1968 film
01:55which is the Planet of the Apes
01:57not the Planet of the Humans in the Apes
02:01that provided a unique opportunity
02:03to explore the one moment in the story
02:06where it could have gone another way
02:09it could have become a planet of co-existence
02:11No one is wrong
02:12I believe in both
02:13I want them both to succeed
02:14but can they do it together?
02:16Yeah I know!
02:17Yeah I know!
02:19But that doesn't happen
02:20and as a result
02:21the film ends up being a anatomy of violence
02:26This is one of the problems with our lives as people
02:29is that we have the great inability
02:32to completely resist the violence within us
02:35It's a big, epic, mythic piece of storytelling
02:38but it's also very intelligent
02:40and surprising and emotional
02:43it's a very emotional film
02:44and I think people will get really caught up
02:47with all of the characters' dilemmas in the story
02:56I might say so
02:56This is a great one
02:56mashing side of the war
02:56of the superstar
02:57and make this world
02:57but we can't survive
02:57You can't fight
02:57not as a
02:57we have to figure out
