00:06With all the flock family, the director really wanted to give the impression that the sheep,
00:16especially at the beginning when they first disguised themselves, are very unsteady on
00:21their feet. So with the mum character, she's very tall, so that's allowed us to put plenty
00:28of joints in her to make her particularly wobbly looking.
00:39The process starts with a design drawing. So that's the dad character, that's how Golly
00:46drew the original drawing. And as you can see on the original drawing, this character
00:51had thin legs and shoes like the other two characters. And through the process of sculpting
00:58it, making the design sculpt, it was realised that actually if you made the coat a little
01:04bit bigger, you could get away with putting feet on it at all and make the, for what is
01:10a big puppet, make the animation a bit easier.
01:15All the major puppets have this kind of ball and socket armature in and that allows the animator
01:21to pose the puppets during the animation process.
01:26I think it's round about 190 human puppets overall. That's including multiples. So for instance,
01:35there are nine farmers in different costumes. There's about 120 flock sheep. Because Sean's
01:46the star, there's 20 of Sean puppets. Again, some on all fours and some standing.
01:56A kind of really satisfying moment is when characters that you've been working on have completed and
02:03you see the first shot that they've been shot in and that gets approved and everyone's happy.
02:09An animator's not come back and moaned at you for making a rubbish puppet. The director's
02:15really keen and happy about the way they look and the way they move. That's really satisfying.
