00:01In the farthest reaches of space, one creature terrified us.
00:22In the depths of a rain forest, another creature hunted us.
00:39In 2004, they will meet on Earth for the greatest battle the universe has ever known.
00:52Alien vs Predator
00:55Now in pre-production, writer and director Paul Anderson, who gave us Resident Evil, explains this highly anticipated battle.
01:05I'm a humongous fan of Alien and Predator. I mean, I think you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who's
01:10seen those movies as many times as I have.
01:12I wanted to make an Alien movie since I saw the first Alien movie at school.
01:17An Alien vs Predator film was very much hinted at in Predator 2, of course, where you saw Danny Glover
01:25go inside the spaceship.
01:26He saw the alien head inside the Predator spaceship.
01:30Something that's always fascinated me is the work of Eric von Daniken, who talks about, you know, how can the
01:35ancients have built the pyramids?
01:37And, of course, Daniken's answer was that humans built the pyramids with alien help.
01:40And, of course, we agree with him.
01:42And in Aztec mythology, they believe that their gods came from the skies in giant ships.
01:49These are their gods, which are, of course, predators.
01:52That's the backbone of our story.
01:54And the idea is that predators use the Earth for their manhood rituals.
01:59Every thousand years, they drop five teenage predators at a pyramid, and they have to fight for their survival.
02:07And if they survive the battle against aliens, they become men.
02:11And that's exactly what's happening here.
02:14You can see that one Predator has successfully killed an alien.
02:17And the alien's, like, writhing around, and there's acid blood going everywhere.
02:20And the Predator's got the head-on spear.
02:22And then his spaceship is coming back to pick him up.
02:25And over here is what happens when things don't go quite so well for the Predators.
02:30So the idea is you start tight on three Predators fighting.
02:33And as you pull back, you see that they're fighting aliens.
02:36And you think maybe there's, like, six aliens, a dozen aliens.
02:39But as the camera continues to pull back, you see that there are just hundreds and hundreds and then thousands
02:45and thousands of aliens swarming up this pyramid trying to get to these three surviving Predators.
02:50There's no hope for them.
02:51One of them gets impaled with an alien tail.
02:53So they activate their self-destructive ice.
02:56And here you have the atomic explosion from the self-destructive ice.
03:01This is our answer to why certain ancient civilizations disappeared without trace.
03:05The majority of our movie takes place in Antarctica.
03:08When they get to Antarctica, on their way to what you discover is a pyramid underneath the ice.
03:12There's an unhappy group of scientists who are caught in between the aliens and the Predators.
03:17I think the audience will be really worried if they think, oh, my God, it's just scientists.
03:21It's important that you have guys with machine guns in there as well.
03:24This is the five teenage Predators orbiting Earth in their spaceship, getting ready for the hunt.
03:29And they're, like, trying out all their new weaponry.
03:31And talking about new weaponry, these are like traditional shurikens, which is the Japanese throwing stars, but they're a little
03:37bigger.
03:37They've got the six really sharp blades.
03:40They all start to fold it up like this.
03:42And you press a button, and the blades unfold.
03:45So they just go, schnack, and you get six great blades.
03:48So when you throw them through the air, they're a lot sharper, they're a lot more mean and menacing.
03:53But also when you catch them, you can use them as a stabbing and cutting weapon.
03:57Rest assured, there's more than one alien and more than one Predator in the movie.
04:00So there's plenty of alien and Predator death to go around.
04:04Next summer, the ultimate battle begins.
