Comparative Religion

The Gospel of John, often called the "Fourth Gospel," differs fundamentally from the Synoptics in style, content, and chronology.

While the Synoptics focus on the "Kingdom of God" through parables and short aphorisms, John features long philosophical discourses and "I Am" statements.

Raymond E. Brown, in his authoritative An Introduction to the New Testament, notes that while the Synoptics depict Jesus’ ministry primarily in Galilee over a single year, John describes multiple trips to Jerusalem and a ministry spanning at least three years, marked by three distinct Passovers

Furthermore, the high Christology of John—identifying Jesus as the Logos (Word) who was with God from the beginning—represents a significant theological development from the more "human" portrayal of Jesus found in Mark.

00:00So I said, what I've given you is only a selected one, otherwise it will be here for hours, and
00:05you need to bring your sleeping bag.
00:07So we give you explicit verses from John himself, which imply, which mean, not imply, but mean, that Jesus, peace
00:16be upon him, is definitely a man.
00:18He can do nothing of himself. He is not God.
00:22Whereas the sole verse you take out, it's not an explicit, and it most certainly does not mean.
00:30I mean that. Now, there are a couple of problems with the Gospel of John for our Christian brothers and
00:36sisters.
00:37These problems are severe, to be honest, they really are severe.
00:42Now, we'll start with the Markan. There are two. We'll just take two of them.
00:49We start with the Markan priority.
00:52The Markan priority refers to the historical sequence when the Gospels, when the four Gospels were written.
01:01Now, the Markan priority is the analysis of Christian scholars throughout, I don't know, the last two, three hundred years
01:09or longer.
01:11I think the Germans have a very big contribution.
01:15For the last two, three hundred years, Germans have very big contributions into this Markan priority as well.
01:21But they're not the only ones.
01:23Today's the ones who do the most work, to be honest, are the Americans today, more than Europeans, in the
01:31study of the Bible.
01:33So, the Markan priority implies a historical sequence, and there is, you could safely say there is virtually unanimous agreement.
01:43You find extremely few people who may say this is not correct, and they cannot substantiate their view anyway.
01:50But very, very few, if any, you know, but there is virtually, it's unanimous, the scholars are unanimous over the
02:00fact that Mark, the Gospel of Mark, was the first Gospel which was written,
02:06followed by Matthew and Luke, who predominantly copied from Mark, and then followed by John, which is the last of
02:15the four Gospels, the very last.
02:17Maybe space it by 20 or 30 years after Matthew and Luke.
02:24So, it's the last one.
02:26Now, this is why I say this is a huge problem for Christian brothers and sisters.
02:31Why?
02:32It's because before Abraham was, I am, it's only found in John, and John is the last one.
02:39The last one means he's the further from the source, which is, I would say, Jesus, peace be upon him.
02:45He's the further from the source.
02:48Historically, he's the later, he's the last one.
02:51And it's three in the Gospel of Matthew, Mark, and Luke, they do not exist.
02:58And yet, I do not want to move this subject to other subjects, but I'll very briefly mention something so
03:04that you understand how severe the case is.
03:07Because I can see some of our Christian brothers and sisters will be dying to bring other verses.
03:12All the verses you bring are from John, when you try and prove that Jesus is God, or the divinity,
03:20try and prove the divinity of Jesus, peace be upon him.
03:22So, you say, for instance, in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word
03:29was God.
03:29For instance, and I, if you say, I went to the end of the verse.
03:33For instance, the Word, and the Word, and the Word, and the Word, and the Word.
