00:29This film held a mirror up to our city, showing the world our passion,
00:35our creativity, our optimism, and of course, the deep-seated desire of every Angeleno
00:41to jump out of their car in traffic and to just start dancing.
01:13So with that,
01:14we are here today in the city of Los Angeles, La La Land Day, a day when you can celebrate
01:20your dreams, you can dance safely somewhere near your car, preferably not in traffic,
01:26take a date up to Griffith Park, fall in love with somebody or just with your city all over
01:32again.
01:32Happy La La Land Day in L.A.
01:41It's very nice, it's very flattering for the city to embrace the movie like this,
01:46because we were obviously embracing the city by making this movie, so to have it go the
01:50other way is very cool.
01:55You know, we started this movie from very small means, wanting to make a love letter
02:00to a city that all of us who were all transplants to the city had come to love, and we
02:05wanted
02:06to do it with some kind of authenticity, without cynicism, very clear-eyed.
02:10So to be standing on the steps of the city hall six years later after having gone through
02:14the journey we went through with this film is incredibly surreal, it's a real dream come true.
