00:07On the stage today, and I mean that
00:10literally, we have Daenerys,
00:12we have Cersei, we have Jon Snow,
00:14we have Tyrion,
00:15to name but a few, all
00:17very much on the edge of something
00:19disastrous happening.
00:21The mood is somber.
00:23It's, you know, world leaders
00:25uniting and disagreeing about
00:27how the world should be run.
00:29It can go south very quickly
00:31and that's a brilliant part
00:33of the sequence because
00:35you know how quickly things can turn on this show.
00:37It's a potential powder keg.
00:39So no matter what's happening, no matter who's
00:41meeting who, the potential for things
00:43to completely explode is always there.
00:50The Dragon Pit is probably one of the most essential
00:53scenes, sequences in all of Game of Thrones.
00:55Tyrion and his posse, they know they're entering
00:58a dangerous place and they know
01:00they're taking a risk coming here.
01:01You have 60 plus hours at this point
01:04of main characters who you are really
01:06invested in, and it's enjoyable
01:08to put people together who haven't been
01:10together before and see how they would
01:11react to each other.
01:12It's people becoming aware of their
01:15smallness, I think, in their nature.
01:17No matter how much they fight each other,
01:18there's a bigger threat to life than just
01:21who's on the throne.
01:22You can say to anyone, you know,
01:25this disease is coming.
01:27But until you can show them evidence,
01:30they won't get past their own smaller problems
01:33to fight the big problem.
01:34These things build over time, you know,
01:36and it takes 70 hours to get to this point.
01:39It takes 70 hours for the story to allow
01:42this scene to happen.
01:43There's a momentum that's up now,
01:46which doesn't stop.
01:47So that's really exciting.
01:49It's incredible, because I am the new kid on the block.
01:52And I've seen these guys for six seasons now.
01:55Then all of a sudden, being part of the scene,
01:59I think this is going to be one of the scenes of this season.
02:03The Dragon Pit epitomizes the central challenge of season seven,
02:08where we have, I don't know, a dozen of our principal characters
02:11all in the same place, many of whom haven't seen each other
02:15since a very dramatic incident years before between them.
02:18So that scene was incredibly tricky to write
02:20and incredibly tricky to film.
02:21You want to be able to service all of these characters,
02:25and that was tremendously fun to plot out.
02:27Conflicts between people, friendships between people,
02:30which ones you wanted to highlight,
02:32which ones that you're going to have to let fall by the wayside.
02:34You have, you know, dozens of,
02:37it seems like dozens of little mini scenes.
02:39So we had to find great moments and character interactions
02:43and story for all of these characters.
02:45It was just so much fun to write for all these guys together.
02:49It kind of forced us to really explore
02:52what the different tonal variations were in those reunions.
02:55You know, it's trying to keep an eye on what they're all there for.
02:59I mean, they're all there for a reason,
03:01which is to discuss the possibility of an alliance
03:04and whether that's even possible with these people
03:05who have so many reasons for hating each other
03:07and so few reasons for trusting each other.
03:12Welcome, my lords.
03:16For Pod to see Tyrion, I mean,
03:18that guy was the most important person in the world to him.
03:21He was the only person who'd given him a chance.
03:23I'm glad you're alive.
03:24There's something very sweet in it.
03:26And amongst all the big stuff,
03:28the small stuff still happens as well
03:29and that's what adds to the texture of the show.
03:31I think that stuff's never forgotten about.
03:33What's in there?
03:36Fuck off.
03:37There's a really wonderful moment where Brienne spies the Hound
03:42and she realises that she has to sort of apologise.
03:49Maybe.
03:51Maybe for nearly killing him.
03:54Maybe.
03:54But she also brings to him the news that she knows he wants to hear,
03:58that Arya is alive and Arya's home.
04:01Oh, that was a relief.
04:03Yeah, of course.
04:04And a concern.
04:04Is she alright?
04:05Who's protecting her if you're here?
04:08The only one that needs protecting is the one that gets in her way.
04:12And then it turns out that we don't need to worry about Arya.
04:16Because I have taught her everything.
04:18What I love about Tyrion and Bronn's relationship
04:21is they know exactly who they are.
04:23Tyrion prods him a little bit
04:25about how much Bronn is doing things out of self-interest.
04:28Don't you worry about me.
04:29I'm doing alright.
04:30Looking after myself.
04:31Are you?
04:32Helping me to arrange this meeting
04:34wasn't exactly looking after yourself, was it?
04:35It's your head.
04:36Queen Cersei's off of the bag of gold for us, not mine.
04:39Knocks on his tin heart a little bit.
04:42Knows there's something in there.
04:45It's good to see you again.
04:49Yeah, you too.
04:52You have Cersei seeing Tyrion for the first time in a long time,
04:55her mortal enemy.
04:57So the first time they lock eyes when she walks in,
05:00that's a moment.
05:02It's really awkward.
05:03It's like the...
05:04I know family reunions for everyone are very awkward.
05:08but let's just say the Lannisters are a complicated bunch.
05:15She's held him responsible for the death of her mother
05:18and the death of Joffrey and her father.
05:21You know, she can't really take responsibility
05:23or deal with her own grief.
05:25She has to just blame everybody else
05:27and that's part of her pain too.
05:29Lena gives me a look that I never want to see ever again.
05:33It's... yeah.
05:35It almost flattened me.
05:37I wanted to hide.
05:40Met my brother.
05:42That was good.
05:43I had a standoff with him, which was great fun.
05:46That was great.
05:47Ignoring a very serious situation.
05:50The Hound just goes straight to him and goes basically,
05:54you and me, pal, we haven't finished.
05:56You're getting it.
05:57There's a non-verbal four or five second thing between Cersei, Jaime and Brienne.
06:03That's not even a line of dialogue.
06:05It's just a little mini scene built out of looks.
06:09It's sort of like one of the worst things that happens to you at school.
06:14I think it's Brienne's idea of absolute abject hell.
06:20Fighting the Hound wasn't abject hell, but a moment of having to deal with Jaime and Cersei is...
06:29the most excruciating thing that could possibly happen to Brienne.
06:33She arrives with the mountain and Jaime and the, like you say, the Kingsguard.
06:38And she's, you know, pretty fierce.
06:40And then she realizes that Dany isn't here.
06:45And that pisses her off, obviously.
06:48And then, of course, Dany arrives on a dragon.
06:51You know, I take fashion and be late to brand new heights.
07:03She's very theatrical with her entrance, though.
07:06Yeah.
07:07It's kind of funny that you go, wow, she really has to show off her power.
07:13But fair enough.
07:13And she tries desperately to not be impressed by that arrival.
07:18And everyone else, obviously, as you would, is standing up in awe of this.
07:22And then, you know, in walks this young beauty of a queen.
07:26And she's immediately beyond frustrated on many levels.
07:32We've been here for some time.
07:35My apologies.
07:36And then all she gets from Dany is apologies.
07:39You know, and that then drives her in the scene.
07:42And she can't bear it.
07:46We have something to show you.
07:58But for me, being a horror nerd, I was slightly giggly.
08:01So I was like, my very own zombie.
08:03She has never, ever seen anything like this before.
08:07And this is a creature that defies her.
08:10This is a creature she doesn't know how to disable.
08:14She doesn't know how to kill.
08:16This is something else.
08:17Daenerys has seen it.
08:18And she's aware of it.
08:19And it's frightening.
08:20But she is just watching Cersei.
08:22Like, she just needs to know that this has affected her.
08:25You know, she's always had that notion of creatures like this.
08:28That they don't exist.
08:28And it's nonsense.
08:30And so I think when he's there, she's back as a kid.
08:34Just, you know, realizing everything her grandma, her nannies told her was real.
08:41She's staring into a face that she never thought existed.
08:49For Jaime, this is like definite proof that there is no choice.
08:55Clearly, this thing, we have to deal with this.
08:58And he believes them all.
09:00He believes his brother.
09:01But he also believes Daenerys and Jon Snow when they say that they saw 100,000 of these beings.
09:11That's where his head is.
09:13You know, the world could end in five minutes.
09:17But he is absolutely one-pointed focused on, I have never seen this before.
09:24This is amazing.
09:25I could really do things with this, you know.
09:29There's this beat in the scene that I really love.
09:34Because I have a line where he's like, he's just seen the White Walker.
09:39He's just died.
09:40And he realizes this is the first thing he's ever seen that terrifies him.
09:47And that's like a new emotion for him.
09:50You know, like...
09:51That was an interesting feeling.
10:01I'm going back to my island.
10:03You should go back to yours.
10:06When winter's over, we'll be the only ones left alive.
10:12And then it all rests.
10:15Her dragon's death, everything, everything rests on Jon Snow just lying.
10:20The crown accepts your truce.
10:24In return, the king in the north will extend this truce.
10:27He will remain in the north where he belongs.
10:29He will not take up arms against the Lannisters.
10:31He will not choose sides.
10:34They've got a plan of action.
10:37And then it all kind of falls apart with Jon's honor again.
10:40It's like, come on, dude.
10:42Like, it's all you gotta do.
10:43Just this one time.
10:44Just tell a fib.
10:45And he can't.
10:46He just can't.
10:47Like, that was the bad move.
10:49That was a bad choice.
10:50But thanks so much.
10:51I am true to my word.
10:54Or I try to be.
10:59That is why I cannot give you what you ask.
11:03I cannot serve two queens.
11:06Tyrion knowing his sisters so well,
11:09knows that that's not gonna go over well.
11:12And of course, it doesn't.
11:14And when Jon does that, the whole thing crumbles.
11:20So it's sort of like, I get it.
11:22But.
11:23Ah.
11:26Then there is nothing left to discuss.
11:30It is so much fun.
11:32With all of us all together.
11:34Having been isolated for so long.
11:36And then suddenly, boom.
11:37I'm working with everybody.
11:39It was quite kind of event for me.
11:41It was, I loved it.
11:42It's lovely.
11:43It's all of us being together.
11:44So we're all kind of, you know.
11:47That was really exciting.
11:48Because we are all just a big, happy family.
11:51And that extended to after work, unfortunately.
11:54Because we had way too much fun.
11:56You know, usually like here, you're on set.
11:58And then you have one, a couple of other actors to hang out with.
12:01Certainly we were like 15, 10, 15 at the same hotel.
12:05It was just a recipe for disaster.
12:07But it was fun though.
12:10Having been so invested in the show for so long, for so many years.
12:13It's just so thrilling.
12:15And I was personally very excited to finally meet Daenerys.
12:19And I hope for the fans that they see a satisfying realization of what I think they've all been maybe
12:26waiting for.
12:28Is for these worlds to be collided.
12:30Those 10 days were 10 of the most enjoyable days I've ever spent doing this show.
12:36Because it's all these people having such an excellent time just being in each other's company.
12:43I will never forget those days.
12:45And on that set they were outstanding.
