00:00I don't think you have any idea, like, how packed my days are.
00:03Like, I actually have a lot to accomplish.
00:05Like, for one thing, the fact that I need 14 hours of sleep, you know,
00:09is not something I should have to feel bad about.
00:11Sleep is the foundation of a productive day.
00:15Long time ago, I just had this idea about a dog looking back on his life,
00:20and he wrote a monologue, and we went and made seven one-minute episodes.
00:25I talk a lot about myself.
00:27That's really allowed us to be here right now.
00:29I have this wildness in me, and she can't change that.
00:33We started out looking for a dog that was as much like our web dog as possible.
00:38I always thought it was important, Martin being mutt,
00:41and so we knew we wanted to find a dog who was untrained from a shelter.
00:45This is Ned, who plays Martin in Downward Dog.
00:49He had been living in a Chicago animal shelter for about a year and a half.
00:53We flew out and picked him up, and he's with us now.
00:56What's his name?
00:57Martin.
00:58Downward Dog is about a woman and her dog and sort of their love story.
01:03It's a real relationship the way any of us have feel with a relationship with their pet.
01:07The audience is fully aware of what's going on in Martin's head,
01:10but he's actually just a dog to everyone within the story.
01:13Every morning, I see her get in her car,
01:15and then when she comes home, she's in the exact same car, and it's just like, I get that it's
01:20fun to just drive around all day.
01:22I would love that, too.
01:23I've actually made that pretty obvious.
01:26Nance Boss Kevin is this sort of obnoxious ad guy.
01:30You don't think that maybe there's something kind of powerful about us telling people how beautiful they are?
01:34Not everyone's beautiful.
01:36Get me something new by Monday.
01:37Something like Kanye tweet level.
01:41Tonight, like, this just took me off guard.
01:43She's been so good about coming home on Friday.
01:46Our, like, scheduled cry into the wine time.
01:48Nan and Jason have recently split up, but there's still a little heat to the fire.
01:55I know Nan didn't mean to be bad.
01:58Like, I get it, but I think it's important for me to draw, like, really clear boundaries.
02:04Not a good choice.
02:06You think a shoe was bad?
02:08Like, I will destroy everything that you love.
02:10I will tear your world to pieces.
02:13What if we put human insecurities and struggles and anxieties into a dog's mouth?
02:19It's funny to talk about a dog so seriously.
02:21He has first world problems.
02:22I mean, that was just kind of it.
02:23It's a great, fun way for us to sort of, like, look at our own relationship.
02:26They have needs and wants and loves, like, like us.
02:30It's not saying dogs are like humans.
02:31It's saying humans are like dogs.
02:32We think we're so important, but we just want to get cuddled.
02:34But yeah, he's a good dog.
02:38We don't need to tell that story.
