00:00Pope Leo has issued a strong message calling for a world without war as the conflict involving
00:04Iran continues to escalate.
00:06In a video message released for his monthly prayer intention, the Pope urged global leaders
00:10to renounce weapons and instead choose dialogue and diplomacy.
00:13The message coincided with a growing conflict involving the United States and Israel against
00:18Iran.
00:19Addressing leaders directly, Pope Leo prayed that those in power would abandon what he
00:22described as projects of death, halt the arms race, and place the lives of vulnerable
00:27people at the center of their decisions.
00:29The Vatican traditionally releases a video each month outlining the Pope's prayer intentions.
00:34For March, the focus was on disarmament and peace.
00:38In the video, the Pope warned about the dangers of nuclear weapons, saying that the nuclear
00:43threat should never again dictate the future of humanity.
00:46The message comes as the White House previously stated that President Donald Trump launched
00:50strikes against Iran with the goal of eliminating the country's nuclear weapons program.
00:54According to a White House release, Trump has repeatedly stated over the years that Iran
00:58must not possess nuclear weapons, saying peace in the Middle East cannot exist if Iran acquires
01:03them.
01:04The conflict began on February 28 when the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran.
01:09The attacks reportedly killed several Iranian leaders, including Supreme Leader Ali Khomeini
01:14and members of his family.
01:16The strike may have also hit a school, where Iranian authorities say 165 people were killed.
01:22Most of them girls between the ages of 7 and 12.
01:25At least 95 others were reported wounded.
01:28At a press briefing, White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt said the United States was not
01:32aware of responsibility for that particular strike and added that the Department of War was
01:36investigating.
