00:00Now, it'd be extremely unfair to state that each and every one of these very much evident blunders
00:05completely takes you out of the entire, sometimes iconic, cinematic experience.
00:10However, there's still no denying that once you do spot the following glaring continuity mistakes,
00:15your days of innocently overlooking them whenever you return for a rewatch will be well and truly over.
00:21So I am Gareth here from WhatCulture.com and here are movie mistakes you can never unsee.
00:26An Apple Watch pops up before its release, Fighting With My Family.
00:30As fun as it was for any WWE fan to take in the real-life story of Paige on the
00:35big screen,
00:36it was still pretty hard to get through 2019's enjoyable Fighting With My Family ride
00:40without spotting the numerous weird ways the flick altered history.
00:44For example, during Paige's eventual big showdown with AJ Lee towards the end of the movie,
00:49the entire Raw stage and ring design and even the company logo
00:52are the ones that were used a few years on from that iconic 2014 in-ring moment.
00:57However, there was another far less obvious error that popped up during that aforementioned
01:02climactic championship-winning conclusion that just about everyone watching on likely missed.
01:07With the production showing up at a WWE Raw taping in February 2017
01:11to shoot the match between Florence Pugh's Paige and Zelina Vega's Lee,
01:15which explains why the updated stage was bizarrely present during Paige's big moments set three years earlier,
01:21someone clearly felt it would be a good idea to use footage of someone in the crowd
01:25gasping at a superplex whilst wearing an Apple Watch.
01:29Said tech wasn't actually officially released until April 2015,
01:33meaning that either this woman was a damn time-traveller,
01:35or someone clearly wasn't worried about anachronisms when piecing together this fighting climax.
01:40Dr. Hammond's Magical Towel, Jurassic Park
01:43That's right, not only was Dr. John Hammond responsible for bringing dinosaurs back to life,
01:49he was also a part-time magician.
01:51Keep a close eye on the towel Hammond can be seen using when he's drying off a glass
01:55during his chat with Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler early on in Jurassic Park.
01:59As the InGen CEO lets the two know about his exciting island,
02:04the towel he's seen using on said glass is very much white,
02:07while Steven Spielberg kept everyone in a wide shot.
02:10However, when the shot then switches to one focusing on Hammond,
02:13he's magically found rubbing the cup with the same pink towel he was holding a bottle of champagne in earlier.
02:19Rather than being another Hammond miracle, though,
02:21this was likely just a case of the classic film's continuity person
02:25being too busy admiring the great Richard Attenborough's mesmerizing performance
02:29to catch this quick mistake.
02:31And they weren't the only one, to be fair,
02:32with a majority of Jurassic lovers no doubt failing to catch this strange towel switch
02:37after spending many an afternoon watching the Dino Thriller.
02:40Is that a cowboy pirate?
02:41Pirates of the Caribbean, The Curse of the Black Pearl
02:44With so many folks working their asses off off-screen
02:47in order to ensure each and every moment on camera
02:50looks and sounds exactly how their director wants it to,
02:53a few crew members accidentally popping into frame on occasion
02:57is about as inevitable as Captain Jack Sparrow downing a bottle of rum.
03:01And what do you know?
03:02After managing to get through an entire feature
03:04without even one rogue part of the filmmaking crew
03:06unintentionally wiggling into a scene,
03:09the very last scene of Pirates of the Caribbean,
03:11The Curse of the Black Pearl contained one hilarious cameo.
03:14After Jack demands his crew of pirate lads and lasses
03:17to get back to work late on,
03:19one of said scabrous dogs suddenly rushing to their post
03:22only went and revealed what looked like a strange cowboy pirate
03:25enjoying the ocean view.
03:27Gore Verbinski did his best to divert attention away
03:29from the accidental appearance
03:30by swiftly cutting to a shot of more pirates
03:33banging into one another on the ship.
03:35But once you spot the Pearl's unexpected cowboy crew member
03:38over Johnny Depp's shoulder,
03:39it's pretty difficult to unsee them.
03:41A blood squib can be seen clearly during a murder.
03:44Heat
03:45An awful lot of blood is shed throughout Michael Mann's
03:48gripping 1995 crime thriller Heat.
03:51And if you ever wanted to know exactly how the visual of a character
03:54being violently gunned down is achieved
03:56during the making of this sort of bloody drama,
03:59then a blink and you'll miss it flaw in this particular flick
04:01had an answer for you.
04:02As Robert De Niro's Neil Macaulay
04:04closes in on William Fitchner's Roger Van Zant
04:07casually watching TV at home,
04:09focus on his leg in the wake of a few bullets
04:11being pumped into his torso by the professional thief.
04:14There you'll spot what appears to be a blood squib cord
04:16going up his pants as he tumbles over a table.
04:19With this practical effect,
04:20likely triggered by the person on the end of said cord,
04:23bursting some fake blood packets
04:25as the actor is pretend blasted during the sequence.
04:27And just like that,
04:28you'll never be able to re-watch this shocking
04:30and rather brutal death
04:31without your eyes being drawn
04:33to that just about noticeable wire of fake death.
04:36Did you spot Toni Collette's wig lace?
04:38Hereditary
04:39The majority of movie fans likely spent the duration
04:42of Ari Aster's unsettling 2018 slice of horror
04:45known as Hereditary hiding behind their popcorn.
04:48I know I did.
04:49So it makes sense that most folks weren't quick
04:51to spot one rather tiny mistake on show
04:53during this tale of a family being terrorized
04:56by a demonic entity.
04:57As Toni Collette's Annie Graham works on one of her miniatures
05:00about halfway through the flick,
05:01a close-up of the grieving mother here
05:03reveals a pretty remarkable detail.
05:06Though you'd never know from looking at her character's
05:08authentic looking hair throughout the picture,
05:10Collette was actually seemingly wearing a wig,
05:12with the piece's lace being just about visible
05:14in the top corner of the frame
05:16as she works on a bedroom.
05:17As noted by one Reddit user
05:19on a Movie Mistakes post about the floor,
05:21this sort of lace would usually be covered by makeup.
05:24But with Annie not exactly wearing a ton of the stuff
05:27during the flick,
05:27covering her in foundation
05:29may have likely seemed a bit strange
05:30for this particular shot.
05:32And though the call was probably made
05:33to simply get rid of it in post,
05:35someone clearly forgot.
05:37And now you will never forget this mistake
05:39if you choose to put yourself through the horror again.
05:41Brad Pitt's Teleporting Cigarette, Babylon.
05:45This list has already covered time-traveling watches
05:47and magically changing towels.
05:49But it's now time to focus on an object
05:51that appears to bizarrely teleport
05:53in between shots during last year's Babylon.
05:55After being brought home by Manny
05:57in the wake of a particularly chaotic party,
05:59a smashed Jack Conrad chooses to fire up a cigarette
06:02whilst belting out some operatic notes.
06:05As you do.
06:06But if you watch that smoke very closely
06:08as Brad Pitt's famous leading man of the 20s
06:10drunkenly explains to his new pal
06:12why he wanted to redefine the form,
06:14something quite peculiar goes down.
06:16Conrad's cigarette is very much sat in his mouth
06:19as he takes his clothes out of Manny's hands
06:21and dumps them on the floor
06:22to talk about the average person heading off to the cinema.
06:25But then, as the shot switches to one from behind Pitt,
06:28said Ciggy randomly shows up in his left hand
06:31out of the blue.
06:32It then swiftly returns to Jack's gob
06:34as the scene cuts back to a shot of his intoxicated face.
06:37Admittedly, with this being the same flick
06:39that boasted crapping elephants
06:40and Margot Robbie taking on a snake,
06:42it's not too hard to see why most folks
06:44didn't notice this brief continuity oversight.
06:47But it will now forever be staring you in the face
06:49during your returns to this three-hour shindig.
06:52Were they even trying to hide the camera?
06:54Bad Boys
06:55There's a random crew member
06:57inadvertently sneaking into frame for a moment,
06:59and then there's your damn cameraman
07:01and said piece of anything but inconspicuous equipment
07:04blatantly sitting in the middle of a cinematic brawl.
07:07And that's exactly what occurred
07:08during 1983's crime drama Bad Boys,
07:11as Sean Penn's Mick O'Brien collided
07:13with Isaiah Morales' Paco Moreno
07:15towards the end of the flick,
07:17with the team seemingly trying to capture
07:19the pair's gritty slugfest from two different angles at the same time.
07:22A quick pause of the violence
07:24as the lads attempt to grab a nearby shiv
07:26reveals an absolutely unforgivable error.
07:29Instead of trying to disguise the fact
07:30they were using two cameras at the same time
07:33to capture this bloody battle,
07:34one of said operators is blatantly visible
07:36on one knee in the crowd for a few seconds.
07:39Perhaps director Rick Rosenthal
07:41just assumed folks would be too focused
07:43on all the dramatic grappling and roaring
07:45going on in the scene
07:46to spot this amusing camera cameo.
07:48However, once your eye is drawn to that piece of kit
07:51and the people carefully trying to record the mayhem,
07:53it's impossible to watch this bizarre skirmish
07:55the same way again.
07:56A sword falls out before Aragorn and co
07:59go and look for their friends,
08:00the Lord of the Rings, the Two Towers.
08:03You'd like to think that the mighty riders of Rohan
08:05knew a thing or two about how to properly store
08:07their equipment when riding into battle
08:09against various orcs, goblins and Uruk-hai.
08:12However, as revealed in a brief
08:14but still rather surreal moment during the Two Towers,
08:17it appears that even the great Aeomer
08:18suffers the odd sword mishap from time to time.
08:21Not long after the exiled Rohirrim
08:23surround Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas
08:25and eventually inform them that their hobbit pals
08:27had likely been killed recently,
08:29Aeomer offers the gang a pair of horses
08:31and advises the lads to still go and look
08:33for their probably dead mates.
08:35Lovely stuff.
08:36And it's during this somewhat gloomy moment
08:37that the horse master's blade
08:39appears to gradually slip out of its scabbard
08:41as the camera cuts to a concerned-looking,
08:43rightful King of Gondor.
08:45This sort of sudden blunder is incredibly easy to miss
08:48even on the biggest of screens,
08:50with the camera operator doing their best
08:51to move rapidly up to Carl Urban's face
08:54before the blade fully slips out of its sheath.
08:56But even before then, it's painfully clear
08:58and difficult to unsee,
09:00once you take the time to focus on his weapon,
09:02that the sword was strangely already 80%
09:04hanging out of its holder
09:05as he trotted up to the Fellowship Heroes.
09:08And now you have another excuse
09:09to go and fire up the Lord of the Rings trilogy
09:11for the 300th time, folks.
09:14You are welcome.
09:15Giant Man Out of Nowhere
09:16Avengers Endgame
09:17A movie as epic as Avengers Endgame
09:20was always going to come under intense scrutiny
09:23when it hit home video platforms.
09:26And fans quickly noticed a baffling continuity error
09:29during the film's insane final action sequence.
09:32At one point, Ant-Man and the Wasp head to their van
09:35in an attempt to get the Quantum Tunnel operational.
09:38Yet mere seconds later,
09:40when Black Panther is shown running
09:41with the Infinity Gauntlet,
09:43Giant Man can be seen fighting
09:44a Chitauri Leviathan in the background.
09:47Though it's clearly nothing more
09:48than an editing mistake.
09:50Some have tried to hand-wave it
09:52by suggesting that either Ant-Man
09:53teleported into the battle and back again,
09:56or more hilariously that it was actually
09:58Hank Pym fighting as Giant Man.
10:00Either way, fans kicked up enough of a stink
10:02about this error that it's tough to forget about it
10:05during repeat viewings.
10:06The visible gas canister, Gladiator.
10:09There's nothing that breaks audience immersion
10:11quite like a piece of modern technology
10:13showing up in a period movie.
10:16And despite winning five Oscars,
10:17including Best Picture,
10:19Ridley Scott's Gladiator is guilty
10:21of an epically unforgettable gaff.
10:24During the film's Battle of Carthage sequence,
10:27one of the chariots gets flipped over
10:28and slides along the floor.
10:30As the dust begins to clear,
10:32a metal gas canister can be blatantly seen
10:35on the back of the carriage.
10:36And given that Gladiator is set in 180 AD,
10:40it's a device which wouldn't actually be invented
10:42for, say, only about 1,500 more years.
10:45Unfortunately for Scott,
10:47the film's re-releases on Blu-ray and 4K
10:49only make the mistake that much more noticeable.
10:52And hilarious as it goes,
10:54Julia Roberts' shapeshifting breakfast,
10:56Pretty Woman.
10:57This is one of the most infamous mistakes
11:00from any major Hollywood movie.
11:02And so it's one that's practically impossible to ignore.
11:05When Vivian is having breakfast with Edward
11:07in Pretty Woman,
11:09her breakfast magically transforms
11:11from a croissant into a pancake
11:13during the mere seconds
11:14where we cut between the two of them.
11:16Some fans have tried to argue
11:17that Vivian simply put the croissant down
11:19and started noshing on the pancake.
11:21But given that the pancake already has a bite
11:24taken out of it when we cut back to her,
11:25it's definitely just an editing error.
11:28Or the waiter simply took a cheeky bite
11:30out of the treat on the way over to the table.
11:32Though that seems somewhat unlikely
11:34and a little bit gross.
11:35The jeans wearing extra Raiders of the Lost Ark.
11:38Raiders of the Lost Ark
11:40is one of the greatest movies of all time.
11:42Yet one which also isn't immune
11:44to the occasional screw-up.
11:46Case in point,
11:47when Indy is sat at a restaurant
11:48in the streets of Cairo,
11:50a man who is very blatantly a crew member
11:52can be seen briefly walking around
11:54in the background
11:55in a t-shirt and jeans.
11:57Now, jeans had certainly been invented
11:59by the film's 1936 setting.
12:01But you'd never expect to see anyone
12:03wearing such an ensemble in 1936 Cairo,
12:07as evidenced by how every other extra
12:09is dressed in the scene.
12:11Obviously, this is a crew member
12:12who unknowingly entered the shot.
12:14A mistake which was either missed
12:16by Steven Spielberg entirely,
12:18or only noticed once it was too late to correct.
12:21Hilariously, the crew spent an entire day
12:24removing 350 TV antennas
12:26from the set's Tunisian streets,
12:28in order to ensure period authenticity.
12:31Only for this guy to stroll into shot
12:33like it's nothing.
12:34Now try watching Raiders without noticing that.
12:36Pre-emptive bullet holes, Pulp Fiction.
12:39There are too many memorable moments
12:41in Pulp Fiction to name.
12:42But who can forget the brilliant moment
12:45where one of Brett's associates emerges
12:47from the back of the apartment,
12:48firing wildly at Jules and Vincent,
12:50but missing them completely?
12:52If you're paying attention
12:53in the lead-up to this moment,
12:55you may notice that the bullet holes
12:56from the man's gunshots
12:57are actually already in the wall
12:59while they're talking to Marvin,
13:00seconds before the man even takes aim.
13:03It's probably fair to assume
13:05that the original continuity of the scene
13:07was a little different,
13:08and Tarantino rejigged it during editing.
13:11Hence, the bullet holes being pre-lodged
13:13in the apartment wall
13:14before they're even fired.
13:15Hardly a terrible mistake,
13:17but certainly a noticeable one.
13:19And surprising given the generally exacting quality
13:22of Tarantino's filmmaking.
13:23Even the greats make a hash of things on occasion.
13:26The obviously fake baby American Sniper.
13:28Clint Eastwood's American Sniper
13:30is a sobering, brilliantly acted look
13:33at the life and times of marksman Chris Kyle.
13:36Though it very nearly derails itself
13:38midway through with one of the most infamous mistakes
13:41in any Oscar-nominated movie ever.
13:43When Chris and his wife Taya are at home,
13:46Chris tends to their newborn daughter,
13:48which is surely the most blatantly fake
13:50baby prop doll audiences have ever seen.
13:53Clips of Cooper holding this clearly lifeless plastic thing,
13:56and even using his thumb to slightly move the baby's arm,
14:00quickly went viral.
14:01While industry analysts wondered whether the terrible gaff
14:04might affect American Sniper's Oscar chances.
14:06Perhaps tellingly,
14:08it won just a single of its six nominations.
14:11Screenwriter Jason Hall later confirmed
14:12that they had a real baby and a backup ready to go
14:15on the day of shooting,
14:17both of which fell through,
14:18prompting the famously efficient Eastwood
14:20to use a doll instead.
14:22Cooper and Miller really tried their best to sell it,
14:24but the fact that the doll doesn't even remotely move
14:27like a real baby is distracting to the point
14:30that it's near impossible to pay attention
14:32to what's actually being said during the scene.
14:34The Magically Repaired Car Commando
14:36Arnold Schwarzenegger's Commando
14:38is one of the greatest guilty pleasure action flicks ever made.
14:42A testosterone-fueled barrage of ridiculous action
14:45and hysterical one-liners almost beyond compare.
14:48But its crowning achievement might well be the fact
14:51that it features a continuity error so brilliantly stupid
14:54that one almost suspects it was actually intentional.
14:57After muscled hero John Matrix runs Sully off the road
15:01and subsequently drops him off a cliff,
15:03he steals Sully's car and drives off into the night.
15:07Except Sully's yellow Porsche convertible
15:09has considerable damage to the driver's side
15:12as Matrix hops into it.
15:13But when he drives off in the next shot,
15:16we can see that the side is perfectly repaired.
15:18It's an especially baffling error
15:20given how easily a member of the crew
15:23should have been able to notice it.
15:24Considering that it only adds to the film's
15:26kitschy B-movie legend though,
15:28it's ultimately more of a happy accident
15:30Worst Extra Ever
15:32Quantum of Solace
15:34One of the unsung arts of making any big movie
15:37is ensuring that the hundreds if not thousands of extras
15:41and background artists are coordinated successfully.
15:44Because if an assistant director gets it wrong,
15:47the results can be hilariously bad.
15:49Case in point, Quantum of Solace features an hysterical beat
15:52where Bond is sat on a motorcycle
15:55while staring pensively into the middle distance.
15:57And a dock worker sweeping in the background
16:00isn't actually sweeping the ground.
16:03The air sweeping has become a viral sensation in recent years.
16:06While filmmaking logic suggests that the extra was instructed
16:10not to actually sweep the floor
16:11because it would generate unwanted noise.
16:14That he was allowed to wander into frame while doing this though
16:17is absolutely absurd.
16:19All the more so given Craig's totally stoic foreground expression.
16:22Batman's disappearing eye makeup, Batman Returns.
16:26At the end of Batman Returns,
16:28the Dark Knight shows up to stop Catwoman from killing the villainous Max Shrek.
16:33At first, he appears to be kitted out in his typical Batman garb.
16:37But mere moments before he removes his cowl
16:39and reveals his true identity to Selina Kyle,
16:42the black makeup surrounding his eyes magically disappears.
16:45Presumably, this was because director Tim Burton
16:48didn't want to have Bruce Wayne trying to hold a serious conversation with Selina
16:52while sporting a pair of panda eyes.
16:55But honestly, it probably would have looked pretty creepy,
16:57which is normally right up Burton's street.
17:00At the very least, it certainly would have been less distracting
17:02than the makeup just disappearing out of nowhere.
17:04Will Smith's Johnson, Wild Wild West.
17:07And finally, we have a movie mistake
17:10that you won't be able to unsee for all kinds of reasons.
17:12When protagonist James T. West has his amorous bathing session interrupted early in the film,
17:19he stands to his feet in the buff.
17:21But due to some inattentive editing,
17:23eagle-eyed viewers are able to see a little more of West,
17:26that is, Smith's body double, than expected,
17:29with an eyeful's worth of his genitals visible for a few fractions of a second.
17:33Given that this is a PG-13 movie aimed primarily at families,
17:37it's not a good look and one that no amount of eye bleach will ever be able to fully erase.
