00:00From hilarious background antics, to ominous foreshadowing, to secretly rather grim cameos,
00:07George Lucas and co. were clearly hellbent on stuffing as much as they could into every single frame.
00:13But with so many eye-catching duels, easter eggs, and nods all trying to grab your attention here,
00:20it was only natural for a few fascinating details to get lost in the shuffle.
00:24Not for much longer though, because I am Gareth, this is WhatCultureStarWars,
00:28and here are 8 hidden facts you never knew about Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith.
00:34Number 8. R2-D2's Background Shenanigans
00:37George Lucas and the brilliant visual effects team behind Episode III Revenge of the Sith
00:41evidently had a blast throwing in a number of cheeky background interactions
00:46during some of the movie's more action-packed moments.
00:49And the first of these that will be looked at in this list involves everyone's favourite astromech,
00:54making a silly battle droid's day a little bit worse.
00:57As Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi pick off a few of those panicking clankers
01:03during the opening invisible hand sequence,
01:06keep a close eye on R2-D2 not long after General Grievous fled the crashing cruiser.
01:11With the visual of Anakin and Obi-Wan slicing through useless droids,
01:15likely being the thing you're focusing on here,
01:17it's easy to overlook R2 hilariously tripping up a B-1 battle droid on the bridge.
01:22It's a quick bit of computer-generated slapstick comedy.
01:26But once you catch the little beat,
01:27it is difficult to get through this sequence without letting out a chuckle
01:30at good old R2 doing his part to fend off the overwhelmed mechanical grunts.
01:36That's not the only amusing chunk of droid comedy
01:38squeezed into the background of this CGI stuffed ride though.
01:42Number 7. The Secret Clone Disrespect Towards Droids

03:11And now, back to the video.
03:13Right as General Grievous makes his escape,
03:16again,
03:16look at the bottom left of the frame
03:18when Obi-Wan Kenobi is calling his lizard ride
03:20to chase him.
03:21One of the many fully digital clones
03:23can be seen unleashing one hell of a rifle
03:26backhand on a downed droid,
03:29sweeping it to one side like it was nothing.
03:31The entire Utapau chapter of the story
03:33is a gift that keeps on giving
03:35if you love this sort of background silliness.
03:37With this being the same location
03:38that memorably saw two excited droids
03:41share a funny moment,
03:42as their boss Grievous ignited his lightsabers
03:45to take on Kenobi
03:46before he eventually sped away from the scene.
03:48Number six,
03:49his fate would be the same as ours
03:50was actually foreshadowing.
03:52Back to the opening section
03:53and to an intriguing moment
03:55that goes down just after Anakin Skywalker
03:58obeyed Chancellor Palpatine
03:59when he told him to do it.
04:01When the latter throws another order
04:03at his future apprentice,
04:05Anakin chooses to ignore it, however.
04:07Palpatine told him to leave
04:09and knocked out Obi-Wan behind
04:10or the pair of them
04:11would not make it off the ship alive.
04:13And how did Skywalker respond to this?
04:15By letting Sheev know
04:16that his fate will be the same as ours
04:18before carrying Kenobi to safety.
04:20In the moment,
04:21this likely felt like little more
04:22than Anakin stubbornly refusing
04:24to leave his master behind.
04:26Well, the more you think about it,
04:27you start to realize
04:28that this was actually
04:29some secret Lucas foreshadowing.
04:32Hmm.
04:32You see,
04:33all three of these men
04:34do indeed share the same fate in the end.
04:37Not just in these opening moments,
04:39but later down the road.
04:40After surviving the cruiser crash
04:42and the Empire eventually rising
04:44post-Order 66,
04:46Obi-Wan Kenobi,
04:47Emperor Palpatine,
04:48and Darth Vader
04:49all die on the Death Star.
04:51Sure,
04:52they technically perished
04:53on different versions
04:54of the giant space station,
04:55but a Death Star is a Death Star, right?
04:58Number five,
04:58George Lucas killed his own son.
05:00Need another reminder
05:01of why episode three,
05:02Revenge of the Sith,
05:03is the undisputed darkest prequel movie.
05:06Well, look no further
05:07than the fact that George Lucas
05:08decided to kill his own baby boy in it.
05:11Moments after showing up
05:12to fight off some clone troopers
05:14ordering Bail Organa
05:15to get away from the Jedi Temple
05:17in the wake of Order 66 being given,
05:20Lucas' adopted son
05:21was brutally slaughtered
05:23by 501st troops
05:24in front of the devastated senator.
05:27It's already a properly horrific beat,
05:29but it becomes even more shocking
05:30once you realize
05:31the director actually decided
05:32to secretly put his own lad
05:34at the center
05:34of the barbaric murder scene.
05:37Still,
05:37getting to wave a lightsaber around
05:39in full Jedi gear
05:40must have been quite an experience
05:42for the kid,
05:42even if it did end with him
05:44being suddenly dispatched
05:45by the one-time allies of the Jedi.
05:47Eh,
05:47thanks, Dad.
05:49Number four,
05:49Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber sound
05:51changes during the movie.
05:53Sticking with the siege
05:54of the Jedi Temple,
05:56that galaxy-changing event
05:57contained one of the most
05:59harrowing moments
06:00ever to appear
06:01in a Star Wars story.
06:02The newly christened
06:03Darth Vader
06:04wandered into the council chamber,
06:06spotted a bunch
06:07of frightened younglings
06:08trying to hide
06:09from the brainwashed clones,
06:11ignited his lightsaber,
06:13and George Lucas
06:13allowed the audience's imaginations
06:15to do the rest.
06:16Many were understandably
06:17too busy being appalled
06:18by the Chosen One's actions
06:19to spot a properly fascinating
06:22little detail on show here,
06:24though.
06:24Listen very closely
06:25as Vader switches on
06:26his iconic lightsaber
06:28to slice his way
06:29through the next generation
06:30of Jedi.
06:30The sound it makes
06:31as the blue laser
06:32bursts from the hilt
06:33is actually different
06:34to the one viewers hear
06:36when it switched on
06:37at various other points
06:38before this slaughter.
06:39Instead,
06:40the noise made here
06:40sounds more like
06:41the one heard
06:42when Vader turns on
06:43his lightsaber
06:44in the original trilogy.
06:45secretly showing again
06:46how,
06:47despite using the same weapon
06:48as before,
06:49Anakin is not the man
06:50he once was
06:51in this traumatizing moment.
06:53And yes,
06:54I know that Vader uses
06:54a different lightsaber
06:55to Anakin,
06:56but still,
06:57the sound is exactly the same.
06:58Or at least pretty close.
06:59Number three,
07:00Palpatine isn't looking
07:01at the Death Star
07:02in his office,
07:03probably.
07:04During the first battle
07:05of Geonosis shown
07:06in Episode 2,
07:07Attack of the Clones,
07:08fans were given
07:09a glimpse of the hologram plans
07:11for the iconic Death Star,
07:13with Count Dooku
07:13eventually taking said plans
07:15back to his master
07:16on Coruscant.
07:17Fast forward to Episode 3,
07:18Revenge of the Sith,
07:19and thanks to them
07:20being similarly projected
07:21in red like the
07:22aforementioned Episode 2,
07:24Death Star hologram,
07:25it seemed like Palpatine
07:26was looking over
07:27those same plans
07:28in his office
07:29as Anakin Skywalker
07:30entered the room
07:31for what became
07:32a quite important chat.
07:33You're only on screen
07:34for a few seconds,
07:35so you can forgive people
07:36for just seeing a big sphere
07:38and thinking,
07:39yep, that's no moon.
07:40But if you pause the scene
07:41and really analyze
07:42what's visible
07:43on that hologram,
07:44it actually looks like
07:45Palpatine is staring
07:46at something else altogether.
07:47Though not fully confirmed,
07:49the presence of two objects
07:51getting closer to the sphere
07:53seems to suggest
07:54he's monitoring
07:55the Separatists
07:56he'd ordered
07:56to be transported
07:57to Mustafar
07:58earlier in the movie here.
07:59And that would make
08:00a bit more sense
08:00than going over
08:01your super top secret
08:02Death Star plans
08:03in a place
08:03where anyone
08:04could just wander in.
08:05So what a lot of people
08:06have long assumed
08:07was yet another
08:08cheeky Death Star appearance
08:10was actually secretly
08:11Palpatine's
08:12keeping an eye
08:13on the Separatists
08:14he'd ultimately have killed
08:15by his next apprentice.
08:17Probably.
08:18Number two,
08:18there's a hidden cameo
08:19on Mustafar.
08:20Former master
08:21and apprentice
08:21and brothers
08:22turned enemies
08:23Anakin Skywalker
08:24and Obi-Wan Kenobi
08:25cross lightsabers
08:26amidst the lava,
08:28with the latter
08:28eventually getting
08:29the better of the former
08:30in this emotional battle.
08:31Moments before
08:32Anakin was cut down
08:34by Obi-Wan
08:35though,
08:36well,
08:36something quite bizarre
08:37occurred.
08:38Though it had been
08:39hiding in plain sight
08:40ever since the movie
08:41was released in 2005,
08:43it took almost 20 years
08:44for someone to spot
08:45an odd cameo
08:46mid-fight.
08:47Pause episode 3,
08:48Revenge of the Sith,
08:49at the 1 hour,
08:4959 minute,
08:50and 2 second mark
08:51if you're watching
08:52on Disney Plus,
08:53and just look over
08:54Skywalker's shoulder.
08:55Here you'll see
08:56what appears to be
08:56someone's face
08:57lurking in the background.
08:59What?
08:59The second this strange
09:01cameo was found,
09:02Reddit went into
09:03investigation mode,
09:04and someone actually
09:05managed to find a photo
09:06from the Mustafar set
09:08that showed a crew member
09:09that looked just like
09:10this Mustafar man.
09:12Yeah, it's a tough one
09:12to catch at full speed,
09:14I'll give you that.
09:14But if you go looking for it,
09:16a hidden crew member cameo
09:17is certainly there
09:18to be found.
09:19And number 1,
09:20Padme and Anakin's
09:21Rebel and Empire logo nods.
09:23There are some who may
09:24class this final entry
09:25as a bit of a reach,
09:27but it's the sort of
09:28possible hidden detail
09:29that feels just too good
09:31to ignore.
09:32Who will ever forget
09:33Padme's iconic line
09:34when Palpatine announced
09:35the creation of the Empire?
09:36The large object
09:37found on the back
09:38of her head
09:39as Liberty died
09:40with thunderous applause
09:41looked incredibly similar
09:42to the Starbird logo
09:44boasted by many a rebel
09:45later down the road,
09:47no?
09:47I think it did.
09:48And when Skywalker
09:49slash Vader
09:50is agonizingly put
09:51into his suit
09:52at the end of the film,
09:53there's a shot of him
09:54on the operating table
09:55that puts him
09:56right at the center
09:57of what looks like
09:58a giant version
09:59of the Imperial Crest.
10:01Sure,
10:01they could just be
10:02coincidences,
10:03but it's much more fun
10:04to live in a world
10:04where Lucas secretly
10:06planted a few nods
10:07to two of the most
10:08recognizable symbols
10:09in all of Star Wars
10:10in scenes involving
10:12two characters
10:12that were vital
10:13to the group's creations.
10:15And that's the world
10:16I'm living in.
