00:00A new poll in the United States shows that large majorities of Americans are not backing
00:04the military campaign against Iran, even as the conflict continues to escalate overseas.
00:09The survey, conducted after recent U.S. and allied strikes, found that just around one
00:13in four adults supports the current attacks a result that could have political implications
00:18back home.
00:19According to the poll, only about 27 percent of Americans say they approve of the military
00:24strikes aimed at Iranian targets, while 43 percent actually explicitly disapprove, and
00:29nearly three in ten remain uncertain about their stance.
00:32The findings come amid an intensifying confrontation that began with airstrikes against Iranian nuclear
00:36sites and key leadership, actions ordered by President Donald Trump and supported by allied
00:41forces.
00:42The survey also found that a majority of respondents believe President Trump is too quick to resort
00:46to military force in international disputes.
00:49More than half the adults surveyed said the administration is too willing to use military
00:53power to achieve strategic goals, a view shared across party lines, albeit more so among Democrats
00:58and independents than Republicans.
01:01As the conflict has unfolded, American casualties have been reported, with at least three U.S.
01:06service members killed and several others wounded amid the ongoing operations.
01:10Those developments have only heightened public scrutiny over the direction of U.S. policy and the
01:14human costs associated with extended military engagement.
01:18The polling comes at a moment when lawmakers in Washington are also debating the legal and
01:22constitutional basis for continued military action.
01:26Some members of Congress have expressed concern about the lack of a formal authorization for
01:30war.
01:31While others argue that current strategic threats require swift response even without formal declarations,
01:37public opinion appears tied not only to views on security but to broader concerns about
01:41economic and domestic priorities.
01:43Many voters say they are more focused on issues like inflation, jobs and economic stability and
01:48are reluctant to see American lives and resources further committed abroad.
01:52The poll highlights what could be a significant political landscape for the 2026 midterm elections,
01:58with many Americans voicing caution about foreign military involvement.
02:02For now, debates over U.S. strategy toward Iran including whether to pursue diplomatic channels
02:06or escalate combat operations continue in both public and political arenas.
