Reverse pivots and swaying will rob you of power and control. Coach Ged Walters suggests some tips drills to help you rotate properly.

00:04Guys Jed Walters here we're at Las Colinas Golf Club in Alicante in Spain and I'm going to give
00:08you a drill that you can do at home as well as on the driving range and before you play
00:13to help your
00:14pivot your body rotation improve in your golf swing now common that we see is you know some
00:24guys really really nice setup and then we see a backswing which looks a little bit like this
00:30or we see a backswing which looks then a little bit like this and the big thing with that is
00:36the
00:37body's pivot and especially the upper body is not moving in the desired way that we need it to to
00:42be efficient and to be powerful as well so what we need to make sure that we do is we
00:49keep as close as
00:50we possibly can an alignment between the center of the shoulders and the center of the hips as well
00:57so if you look at your shirt buttons and your belt buckle we need to keep them as aligned as
01:01we
01:01possibly can so when we would be taking our setup position what we don't want to do is go this
01:10way
01:11because what we've done there is we've made a turn but the one thing we haven't done is we haven't
01:16extended the spine angle to retain our position and our nice control of the pivot and the turn and the
01:24power so if we look at the golf swing we've got the turn we've got the forward bend and a
01:34slight
01:35extension in the spine angle to retain our position there nice and smoothly and powerfully and from
01:41there we can really unwind and get a real powerful downswing and if we think about it the most powerful
01:47muscles in your golf swing glutes and quads followed by your core so if they're not getting themselves in the
01:54right position you're going to struggle massively struggle then you become very hands and armsy and
01:58totally inconsistent so drill that we need to do I want you to get your club and I want you
02:04to place
02:04it right on the very top of your shoulders just in there taking your setup position and little forward
02:11bend into here okay I want you to get the club head as I've got it here to go down
02:19towards the ground
02:21almost towards the inside of your trailing foot and then in the down swinging through swing we want
02:29to get the belt buckle to rotate towards the target getting the grip end down into that position then
02:36we're going around and through into a great finish so when we see that from the face on position we're
02:44going
02:45down as we rotate and as you see there there's no movement to one side or the other so my
02:52spine's
02:52tilting turning it's extending all in one motion to there and then I can push through down and into
03:02the finish now that drill five minutes a day at home even if you wanted to you could place your
03:08forehead on the doorframe do it in the doorframe to get used to making that movement to start with but
03:14the more you do it the better you get at it and it doesn't take long for your pivot and
03:18your rotation
03:19of the body to get better and better and better when you're out on the golf course where it really
03:22matters now I'm going to give you a view when I hit this shot of how stable the body rotation
03:28is
03:29it's quite difficult really to see stability from a fast movement especially where the arms in the way
03:35in the front view so I'm going to give you a different view I'm going to give you this one
03:38because
03:40from this angle here you can see everything how stable and centered the body's rotation is
03:48and then round into that finish so I'm going to hit this shot for you now and I'm going to
03:53make that
03:54nice movement turning tilting extending all the way through and into the finished position
04:06and then we get a beautifully crisp strike lovely control on the ball flight loads of power loads of
04:12distance guys make sure you do it five minutes a day you know you could be there watching the news
04:16you could be watching the sport anything on TV just standing there and making sure you you prepare so
04:22when you get on the golf course everything works much much better guys thanks for watching don't
