00:05across the world thanks to his bold sense of dress and of course his brilliant golf too.
00:10While he's suffered a bit of a drop-off in form over recent years, let's get to know the American
00:15golfer a little bit better with 10 interesting facts. Born in Murrieta, California, Fowler
00:22started playing golf only on a driving range and was pretty much entirely self-taught at the game.
00:27He had some success in high school and it was enough to give him a scholarship where he would
00:32go on to study at the University of Oklahoma. Fowler had a decorated amateur and collegiate
00:37career. In 2007 he was a member of the winning US Walker Cup team and also won the Sonny Hanna
00:43and Players Amateur in the same year. In 2008 Fowler won the Ben Hogan Award which is an annual
00:49prize given to the best college player in the US. His full name is Rick Utaka Fowler. It's not known
00:55exactly when and why he preferred to be called Ricky but his middle name comes from his maternal
01:00grandfather who is Japanese. His maternal grandmother is Navajo Native American.
01:05Fowler is married to former track and field amateur athlete Alison Stoke. They started dating
01:10in 2017, became engaged in 2018, married in 2019 and welcomed their first child to the world
01:16in November 2021. Fowler turned pro in 2009 and finished his first PGA Tour event as a pro in the
01:23top 10. While he was PGA Tour Rookie of the Year in 2010, it took until 2011 for Fowler to

01:30first professional win which was a six-stroke victory over Rory McIlroy at the Korea Open. He won his first
01:37PGA Tour event a year later in 2012 at the Wells Fargo Championship. His most significant and decorated win
01:44to date was the 2015 Players' Championship. He beat Sergio Garcia and Kevin Kisner in a famous
01:50playoff win. Fowler played the final six holes of regulation in six under par to force his way
01:55into the playoffs. He then hit a famous shot on the iconic par 3 17th hole sticking his tee shot
