00:00Folks, I'm going to have to ask you to brace yourselves for a second because I'm going to say something
00:03entirely shocking
00:04that you may want to be sitting down for.
00:07We here at Trek Culture really want Legacy to be greenlit.
00:10I know, I know.
00:13Terrifying.
00:15Completely groundbreaking news.
00:16I'm Sean Ferric for Trek Culture and here are 10 reasons to greenlight Star Trek Legacy right now.
00:23Number 10.
00:24Centre seat.
00:24The journey of Seven of Nine from the child of inquisitive and frankly terrible parents to the captain of the
00:32flagship of the Federation
00:33is one of the longest and most impressive character arcs in all of Star Trek, up there with both Worf
00:40and Nog.
00:41The chance to continue her story and strike while the iron is still hot is way too tempting an opportunity
00:47to pass up.
00:48Her story has been developing since the fourth season of Star Trek Voyager, the very first episode,
00:53Scorpion Part 2.
00:55And almost 26 years later, the story is still unravelling, as evidenced with her arrival in the first season of
01:03Picard,
01:03where she is still very much searching for a purpose in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants.
01:07She settles in as the first officer of the Titan A, but even that is not without its issues with
01:12her butting heads with Captain Liam Shaw.
01:15Now, with the death of Shaw and the reshuffle in Starfleet after the events of Frontier Day,
01:20she is fast-tracked to captaincy of the Enterprise G.
01:23This is a story that very much begs to be told because we've seen Seven in so many different variations
01:31throughout her career,
01:32but a captain is very much a version of Seven that I want to see,
01:37particularly one who has Raffi sitting on one side and Jack Crusher sitting on the other.
01:41In fact, it's part of this, those relationships, that would be so meaningful for people to see in Star Trek
01:48Legacy.
01:48Here is the outcast, the rebel, the hard-earned, when it comes to respect of others,
01:55hero of the journey, and those who might be able to both support and keep her balanced.
02:01It's a no-brainer for me.
02:02Number nine.
02:03What about the Klingons?
02:05Discovery certainly brought back the Klingons,
02:07and it remains to be seen what they will do with the Klingons in their fifth season.
02:11Several Klingons have passed through in Lower Decks,
02:14and there was, in fact, a Klingon in Star Trek Prodigy.
02:16But for the most part, when it comes to the late 24th and early 25th century,
02:21the only real Klingon we've spent any time with is Worf.
02:24Star Trek Picard chose to omit the Empire,
02:27focusing instead on the Romulans for its first season,
02:30and the Borg for, effectively, its entire run.
02:33What is the Empire up to?
02:35What do they look like at this point in history?
02:37The Empire will probably still be rebuilding after the devastation of the Dominion War.
02:42Whatever happened to Chancellor Martok?
02:44Why did Worf step away as Federation ambassador to Kronos?
02:48As it stands, we don't know what's happened to the Klingons,
02:51and their absence is sorely noted.
02:54The arrival of Star Trek Legacy would leave the door open for guest performances
02:57from J.G. Hertzler and even Tony Todd.
03:00But, as time goes on, these are questions that only get more and more stinging
03:06by the fact that we don't know the answer to them.
03:09Number 8.
03:09You want crossovers?
03:11One of the highlights, and frankly, biggest surprises,
03:14of Strange New World's second season
03:17was the crossover with Star Trek Lower Decks.
03:20I admit to being very confused when I heard it was coming,
03:23that there was going to be a crossover between a live-action Star Trek
03:25and an animated Star Trek,
03:26and the fact that it was done so easily
03:30begs the request for more.
03:32In that episode, of course, we see Jack Quaid and Tony Newsome,
03:35and, you know, because we're greedy here,
03:39we're a bit sad we didn't get to see Eugene Cordero or Noelle Wells.
03:42It is unlikely, as things stand,
03:45that we would see the characters from Star Trek Prodigy
03:47appearing in live-action.
03:49So that might, again, beg the question of
03:52could the Lower Decks characters, in total,
03:55cross over with Star Trek Legacy?
03:57I argue they can,
03:59because, again, Star Trek has done it so well,
04:01and quite recently.
04:02Plus, I really want to see Noelle Wells play Tendi in real life.
04:05Who doesn't want to see that?
04:07Number 7.
04:08Daystrom.
04:09You need more fingers than I have on my two hands
04:12to count all of the things that we could dive into
04:14of Picard's final season,
04:16but one of the biggest and most tantalising things it introduced
04:20was Daystrom Station,
04:22the Black Ops site where Section 31
04:25housed the most dangerous artefacts that they've discovered.
04:28Not since some bloke
04:30wheeled the Ark of the Covenant into a warehouse
04:33have we been teased with such a goldmine of potential storylines.
04:37Theft of another Genesis device?
04:39If it has a paywall, nor not.
04:41Or attack-by-attack tribbles?
04:44It's all there for the taking.
04:45A deliberate inclusion of Picard's third season
04:49would perhaps set up
04:51what would be something people have been clamouring for
04:54for a long time,
04:54which is the return, pun intended,
04:57of Captain James T. Kirk.
04:59His body, after all, was recovered from Viridian 3
05:02and is kept in storage on Daystrom Station.
05:04The description,
05:06Project Phoenix,
05:08was written on his
05:11coffin?
05:12Tomb?
05:14Icebox?
05:15Whatever you want to call it.
05:17So obviously,
05:17someone's been having a crack at resurrection.
05:20There was an opportunity
05:21in the never produced fifth season of Enterprise
05:23that may have seen William Shatner return to the role.
05:26This is going to sound perhaps slightly insensitive.
05:29The clock is ticking
05:30on having William Shatner appear in Star Trek again.
05:33So if Legacy is greenlit
05:36and if that is something that is going ahead,
05:38I feel that this would be a very nice inclusion
05:40in a first season.
05:42It could end up capping off Kirk's storyline
05:45in perhaps a more satisfactory fashion
05:47than Generations was able to
05:48and also include perhaps the handing over of batons as well.
05:52It could be a slight stretch or far-fetched,
05:54but this is Star Trek.
05:56What isn't?
05:57Number six,
05:59fleeting.
06:00How can this list not have a mention of starships?
06:02In fact,
06:03don't forget to check out our list
06:05of 10 ships that need to be in Star Trek Legacy.
06:09Legacy has a fleet
06:10that's sitting there ready to go.
06:12Think about what we saw
06:13in Picard's second and third seasons.
06:15As part of the promotion of Picard,
06:17we got detailed breakdowns
06:19of all of the different vessels
06:21that were featured in Frontier Day.
06:23We had Excelsior class,
06:24we had Sovereign class,
06:25we had Odyssey class,
06:26we had Akira class,
06:28and we had a slew of vessels
06:30from Star Trek Online as well.
06:32For Legacy,
06:32you also have the options of,
06:34well,
06:35the Constitution 3
06:36or the Neo-Constitution class,
06:37seems like a no-brainer,
06:38but also the scene-stealing USS Intrepid as well.
06:42There's also options from Star Trek Online
06:43like the Chimera class
06:44or the Beautiful Pathfinder class as well.
06:47Audiences may even welcome back
06:49the Inquiry class,
06:50which,
06:50when there's not 150 million of them on screen,
06:53is actually not a bad design.
06:55And of course,
06:57whatever happened to that old
06:58Sovereign class,
06:59Enterprise E?
07:01That seems like something
07:02we should probably follow up on.
07:04Number five,
07:05its cast itself,
07:06and the cast itself.
07:08If the name is any indication,
07:10Star Trek Legacy
07:10surely has to be about
07:12the people at its very core,
07:15both the crews that have gone before
07:16and the crews that are yet to come.
07:18This would seem like
07:19an even more prime opportunity
07:21to bring back returning faces.
07:24Picard did it very well
07:25in the third season.
07:27This is something
07:27that could be built upon
07:29in Star Trek Legacy.
07:30The fact that Picard producers
07:31were able to keep the return
07:32of such characters
07:33as Roe Laren a secret
07:35proves that there still is
07:37things that can surprise us
07:39even all these years later.
07:40What's Esri Dax up to?
07:42We know Janeway's looking after
07:43the crew of the Protostar
07:45in the early 2380s,
07:47but what's happening
07:48in the early 2400s?
07:50Has Bashir finally gone over
07:51to Section 31?
07:53Is Garak still ruling
07:54the Cardassian Union?
07:55Where the bloody hell
07:57is Captain Harry Kim?
07:58There is the risk
07:59that Star Trek Legacy
07:59could just become
08:01Easter egg after Easter egg
08:02after Easter egg,
08:03and that would only serve
08:05to hurt the show overall.
08:06So there would have to be
08:08a bit of restraint exercised
08:10when it came to just
08:10bringing people back.
08:12It's about how you use them.
08:14For example,
08:15a character like Barclay
08:16could come back
08:17because Barclay,
08:18who was instrumental
08:19in Project Pathfinder,
08:21might also now
08:23be instrumental
08:24in helping to rehabilitate
08:26Starfleet
08:27after the events
08:28of Frontier Day
08:29because if there's
08:30someone who knows
08:32about trying to figure
08:32themselves out,
08:33it's probably Barclay.
08:35Number four,
08:36The Return.
08:38The finale of Picard's
08:39third season
08:40left us with that
08:42stinger of a mid-credits
08:43scene in which Q
08:44appears to Jack's crusher
08:46and says he still has
08:47so much left to do.
08:49A recent interview
08:50with John Delancey
08:51might suggest that
08:52as it stands,
08:54this may only ever be a dream.
08:56But this, in fact,
08:58is such a wonderful way
08:59of using it
09:00as a jumping off point
09:01for Legacy as well.
09:02Q has been one of the
09:03stalwarts of Star Trek
09:05since 1987,
09:06since his rather late
09:07addition to the script
09:08for Encounter at Far Point.
09:09In that time,
09:10he's been a thorn
09:11in the side of Picard.
09:12He bothered Sisko
09:14once
09:15and went on
09:16to spend an awful
09:17lot of time on Voyager.
09:18Sure, Q died
09:19in season two of Picard,
09:21but when has the Q
09:22ever been corporeal?
09:25And in fact,
09:25how many times
09:26has the Doctor died
09:27in Doctor Who?
09:28And it's alright,
09:29that was in the far future,
09:30it was in the past,
09:30or it was actually
09:31an alternate universe,
09:31it was this,
09:32it was that.
09:32This is sci-fi.
09:34What does death
09:35really mean?
09:36With that,
09:37would it not be
09:38hilariously fun
09:39to see a possibly
09:40earlier version of Q
09:42playing with a later
09:44version of our crew?
09:45There's always been
09:46that careful walk
09:48between imp,
09:50mischief,
09:50and menace
09:51within Q as a character,
09:53and is therefore
09:54a great foil
09:55for some of our crew
09:57as well.
09:57Now again,
09:58this will be a case
09:58of striking while
09:59the iron is hot,
10:00because the longer
10:01you leave it go,
10:02the less
10:03possible interest
10:04there might be
10:05in picking up
10:05this particular
10:06storyline again.
10:07Of course,
10:07there's a challenge
10:08with so many
10:09projects on the go,
10:10including Section 31
10:11and Starfleet Academy,
10:13that things could
10:14end up getting
10:14pushed back
10:15and pushed back
10:15and pushed back,
10:16so we can only hope.
10:18This is something
10:19I think I'm happy
10:20to hope for.
10:21Number three,
10:22post-supernova.
10:23There is a literal
10:25goldmine
10:26of storytelling
10:27that can be mined
10:28from the Romulan
10:29supernova.
10:30What seems like
10:31an odd addition
10:32to the 2009 film
10:34has actually become
10:36an incredible way
10:37of building new stories
10:38around the Starfleet
10:40universe ever since.
10:41The first season
10:42of Picard,
10:42of course,
10:43is entirely framed
10:45with the Romulan
10:45supernova.
10:46What caused it
10:48seems to be natural,
10:49but what causes
10:50came from it
10:51are very much unnatural.
10:52The impact of this
10:53goes right through
10:53up until the 32nd century
10:55with the planet
10:55of Nivar
10:57existing in no small part
10:58because of the supernova.
11:00Symbolically,
11:012024 would be a great time
11:03to greenlight
11:03Star Trek Legacy
11:04and say,
11:04yep,
11:05we're going to deal
11:05with the supernova
11:05because it'll be 15 years
11:07after it was first
11:07introduced in 2009.
11:09And excuse me
11:10while I just throw up
11:11a little bit in my mouth
11:11when I realised
11:12that was 15 years ago
11:13and I remember it
11:13like it was yesterday.
11:14But even with
11:15all of the discussion
11:16about the supernova
11:17and the Romulan free states
11:19that Picard in particular
11:20has done,
11:20we know next to nothing
11:22about what state
11:23the Empire is at
11:24at the moment.
11:25Where are they?
11:26Surely they can't still
11:27be on the artefact
11:28as that's downed
11:29over Coppelius.
11:30So did they find
11:31other colonies to settle on?
11:33I would presume that
11:34yes,
11:34yes they did.
11:35And if they did,
11:36where are the Remans?
11:38Because presumably
11:39if Romulus was destroyed,
11:40I presume Remus
11:41must have been destroyed
11:42as well.
11:42So where are they?
11:44Did they get off
11:44the planet in time?
11:46They have space capability
11:47as we saw
11:48in Star Trek Nemesis.
11:49So what's the deal?
11:51And of course,
11:52you knew I was going
11:52to say it
11:53another big question
11:54is whatever happened
11:55to Sela?
11:56Now we've covered
11:57that so much
11:58on the channel
11:58that I'm not going
11:59to go too much
12:00into that now,
12:00but where are
12:02everyone's favourite
12:03bowl cut badasses?
12:05Number two,
12:06on demand.
12:07As with strange
12:08new worlds,
12:09the demand for legacy
12:10is here now.
12:11Think of the fan outcry
12:12after the second season
12:14of Star Trek Discovery
12:15for there to be
12:16a spin-off series
12:17featuring the new
12:19old crew
12:19of the USS Enterprise.
12:21And far sooner
12:22than as the time
12:25has gone by
12:25between End of Picard
12:26and now,
12:27there was a confirmation
12:29that Stranger Worlds
12:30was happening.
12:30As Trekkies,
12:31we are a vocal bunch,
12:33always have been.
12:33When it's been
12:34writing letters
12:35or whether it's been
12:36getting to other conventions
12:37or of course,
12:38in the modern age
12:38of social media,
12:39we let our feelings
12:41be known.
12:41Discovery,
12:42since its arrival
12:43in 2017,
12:44has been a constant
12:45source of conversation,
12:47if you will,
12:48even if perhaps
12:48it didn't click
12:50with as much
12:51of the audience
12:52as the producers
12:53may have hoped,
12:54which may in fact
12:54have led to its
12:55eventual cancellation.
12:57Lower Decks
12:58seems like a bit
12:59of an about face here
13:00as it's very much
13:00a gift to the fans.
13:02Picard helped to offer
13:03more time in the 24th
13:05and early 25th century
13:06where Strange New Worlds
13:07was literally born
13:08from the cries
13:09of the audience.
13:11Legacy continues
13:12to be a huge source
13:13of conversation.
13:14It is often trending
13:15day by day
13:16and you have showmakers
13:17like Terry Metallus
13:19and others like him
13:20who are chomping
13:20at the bit
13:21to be involved
13:22and to help make
13:23this a reality.
13:24So,
13:25we implore once again
13:27to Paramount,
13:28listen to your audience.
13:30The 25th century
13:32is too alluring
13:33to ignore.
13:35To quote a certain
13:36Senator Nonclos,
13:37there has never been
13:39a better time.
13:40Number one,
13:41Easy Mane.
13:43Legacy,
13:44if the producers
13:44would admit it,
13:45already exists.
13:46By that,
13:47we mean that
13:48the physical sets
13:49of the Enterprise G
13:50already are there
13:52and so are all
13:53the CGI assets
13:54as well
13:55that would have been
13:55built for Picard's
13:56third season.
13:57Some of them
13:58have actually existed
13:58since season two
13:59because of the Stargazer.
14:01They've proved resilient
14:02enough for two seasons
14:03worth of use
14:04and some minor redresses.
14:05In terms of setting up
14:07from the get-go,
14:08this has to be one
14:08of the less expensive
14:09shows to get going on.
14:10The Bridge,
14:11Corridors,
14:12Sickbay
14:12and a whole host
14:13of other sets,
14:1418 in total,
14:15have been constructed.
14:17This means that
14:17the budget for the show
14:18could either be
14:19drastically lower
14:20or reallocated
14:22into other areas.
14:23For example,
14:23we still haven't seen
14:24main engineering
14:24aboard the Enterprise G
14:26or a main shuttle bay.
14:27And of course,
14:28just think about
14:29how fantastic Star Trek
14:30in particular
14:31has been about
14:31repurposing sets.
14:33There may even be
14:34one or two
14:34that could be repurposed
14:35from Discovery.
14:36Now, while that bridge
14:37has been reused
14:38a few times,
14:39and of course,
14:39let us not forget
14:40the wonderful Federation HQ
14:42which gets reused
14:43every Tuesday,
14:44there are a whole host
14:45of other locations,
14:46corridors,
14:47even planet sets
14:49that could be upgraded
14:49for the 25th century.
14:51It seems like
14:52all of the ingredients
14:53to make Legacy happen
14:54are there,
14:55and all we need
