00:00With so many wonderful slash unexpected developments, and more subtle details and easter eggs than you can shake a pair
00:08of lightsabers at in the first season of Ahsoka,
00:11there's a good chance you didn't catch absolutely everything this brilliant show had to offer.
00:16So I am Gareth from WhatCultureStarWars, and here are 20 things you somehow missed in Ahsoka Season 1.
00:23Number 20, Death Troopers Rise
00:27A set of night troopers find themselves being resurrected by the Great Mothers as Ahsoka Tano, Ezra Bridger, and Sabine
00:34Wren
00:34attempt to reach the blue-skinned menace known as Thrawn in the finale episode.
00:40In other words, zombie stormtroopers finally arrived in live-action Star Wars, baby!
00:45And said unsettling night troopers actually felt like a pretty direct nod to Joe Schreiber's 2009 Death Trooper novel.
00:52With that book focusing on a bunch of zombie stormtroopers coming back from the dead, due to an awful disease
00:59to cause chaos.
01:01And while we're talking about stormtroopers, I want to know what you think is the coolest stormtrooper of all time.
01:07Let me know in the comment section right down below.
01:10Number 19, A Long Time Ago
01:12The first ever words to pop up on screen in a Star Wars feature were, of course, the fascinating A
01:18Long Time Ago in a galaxy far, far away.
01:21But at no point were those words ever uttered in the universe itself on screen.
01:26Until now!
01:27As Ahsoka and the old architect droid Hu Yang chat on their way to Peridia inside of a Pergil, as
01:33you do,
01:34the former recalled the history of the galaxy stories the latter used to tell the younglings when they were training.
01:40And after first turning down the offer of hearing one of these old stories, Ahsoka eventually requests a tale from
01:46her companion.
01:47It's here when Hu Yang gets things started with that all-too-familiar opening line,
01:52simultaneously providing fans with an awesome little nod to the words that started it all,
01:57and possibly suggesting that Hu Yang could actually be the one recalling the entire Star Wars story chapter of the
02:03history of the galaxy,
02:05years in the future to some mesmerized youngsters.
02:08Yep, just think that one over.
02:10Number 18, A Games Console Pops Up in Hospital
02:13It simply wouldn't be Star Wars if there wasn't a retro or other real-world gadget hiding in plain sight
02:19at some stage.
02:20And that's exactly what went down during the moment a recently stabbed Sabine Wren
02:25extracted vital information from a decapitated droid's head within a hospital on Lothal in Ahsoka.
02:31In order to recover the memory of the sliced-up droid,
02:34the Mandalorian uses a retro-looking piece of kit to pump just the right amount of power into it,
02:40before it or Hu Yang explodes.
02:42But when looking closely at this particular tool,
02:45one eagle-eyed Reddit user actually noticed that the prop department had opted to dust off
02:50an old Galaxy Invader handheld video game from the 80s for the stressful hospital bed extraction.
02:56Number 17, The Reference to Vader's Fight with His Son
02:59Before Ahsoka Tano clashes with her old master in the World Between Worlds during Part 5 Shadow Warrior,
03:06Snips tells Anakin Skywalker that she will not fight him.
03:09The Star Wars icon replies by letting his Padawan know that he's heard that before.
03:14And he's not lying.
03:15His own flesh and blood, Luke Skywalker, said something similar,
03:19as the two dueled in front of Emperor Palpatine on the second Death Star in Return of the Jedi.
03:24That also wasn't the only interesting and easily missed moment during this epic collision.
03:29Number 16, Ahsoka is briefly seduced by the Dark Side
03:33Not long after reliving some important Star Wars Clone Wars moments together,
03:39Skywalker shifts into Vader territory during his duel with Ahsoka,
03:43swinging his red lightsaber at his Padawan as his eyes turn yellow and red.
03:47This tends to happen whenever a Force user begins to give in to the anger and rage inside them.
03:53And in a blink and you'll miss it flicker,
03:55Tano's own eyes also briefly show a yellow and red glimpse of the dark side within,
04:00as she threatens to use Vader's own lightsaber against him.
04:03Instead of allowing that anger to control her like Vader did though,
04:07Tano soon tosses the blade away and opts to not kill her master,
04:11and walk away from the darker path he walked after the fall of Anakin.
04:15Number 15, A Few Unexpected Rebels Cameos
04:18While the likes of Ezra Bridger, Sabine Wren, Harrison Dula, Chopper,
04:23and even Grand Admiral Thrawn were all very much expected to show up at one point or another,
04:28there were actually some other Little Rebels cameos that few honestly anticipated or even spotted.
04:34As the Star Wars planet of Lothar celebrates the anniversary of the day their world was liberated by the Spectres,
04:40none other than Governor Ryder Azadi and Senator Jai Kel were front and center.
04:45Both figures were present throughout the Rebels animated show,
04:48helping the likes of Ezra and co. see off the Empire in the end.
04:52Kel ended up being played by a different actor for his live-action debut in episode 1,
04:57with Vinny Thomas replacing the voice of Dante Basco.
05:00However, big and small screen star Clancy Brown actually reprised the Azadi role,
05:05he magnificently brought to life in the animated series for Ahsoka.
05:09Number 14, A Photo Tribute to Kanan Jarrus
05:12Despite sacrificing himself to save his beloved Hera and the rest of his pals in the Star Wars Rebels animated
05:19series,
05:20Jedi Knight's Kanan Jarrus did actually find a way to join the gang in Ahsoka.
05:24Most understandably failed to notice this tiniest of references to Ezra Bridger's master though,
05:30as it briefly went down when Hera and her son Jason boarded the Ghost to help Ahsoka, Sabine, and Hu
05:36Yang early in episode 4.
05:37Really focus on the cockpit of the trusty Rebel ship in this scene,
05:41and as noted by one fan on X,
05:44you'll soon realise that the Republic General actually keeps a photo of her Kanan,
05:49the father of her boy, with her on the Ghost.
05:52No, you're crying!
05:53Number 13, What Ahsoka's Ship is Named After
05:56This latest live-action Star Wars tale saw the titular Force user and her youngling training pal Hu Yang piloting
06:04the T6-1974.
06:06Instead of simply throwing a bunch of random numbers at the wall and seeing which ones stuck however,
06:11those digits were actually an entirely intentional tribute to the mind behind much of the Thrawn and Bridger hunting fun.
06:17In case you weren't aware, long-time Star Wars creator Dave Filoni's birthday is June 6th, 1974.
06:24So when it came time to give Tano's T6 shuttle its registration number for its live-action debut,
06:29someone, or possibly even Filoni himself,
06:32clearly thought it would be funny to simply slap Dave's birthday in the script.
06:36Number 12, Ahsoka dusts off her fulcrum name
06:39During episode 1 of Ahsoka,
06:42the New Republic got in touch with Tano and Hu Yang to let them know that there had been an
06:46incident.
06:47But it's the codename the voice on the other end of the line uses
06:50that is arguably more interesting than the reason for the unexpected transmission.
06:55Ahsoka is clearly still going by the fulcrum codename she used
06:59when secretly aiding the Rebel Alliance during the Galactic Civil War.
07:02None other than Tano's own master, Anakin Skywalker,
07:06first used the name for his subspace frequency in the Clone Wars.
07:09With Tano then going on to use it as a secret alias,
07:12others would then go on to use said codename over the years too,
07:16such as Agent Kallus in the Rebels animated series.
07:19After all these years, it's interesting to note that Tano is still going by the name
07:23that will forever be connected to her master and the age of the Empire.
07:28Number 11, A Nod to the Emperor Not Actually Being Gone After All
07:31In a delightful and subtle nod to the sequel madness
07:35that would ultimately grip this Star Wars universe a few years later in the timeline,
07:39Ezra and Sabine's reunion brought with it an unexpected and fascinating Emperor Palpatine reference.
07:45As Ren tries to catch Bridger up on the things he missed after being blasted into another galaxy,
07:50the latter asks his Mandalorian mate,
07:53the Emperor died?
07:54A throwaway that's what people say soon follows,
07:57a moment that could initially be viewed as little more than a nod to the events of The Rise of
08:01Skywalker.
08:02What you may not have realized, however,
08:04is that this comment also seemingly highlights the fact some Rebels
08:08were clearly still struggling to fully believe the mind behind the Clone Wars
08:12was truly dead and gone even a few years after his death in Return of the Jedi.
08:16And they were right to be suspicious in the end, lol.
08:20Number 10, The Mortis Gods
08:22The Mortis Gods were back once again during the closing stages of Ahsoka Season 1.
08:27These three powerful beings represented the light side in The Daughter,
08:31the dark side in The Sun,
08:33and the balance of the Force in The Father,
08:36making their Star Wars debut in the Clone Wars Season 3 Overlords episode.
08:40They were also depicted on a mural in Rebels during both The Wolves at the Door
08:44and a World Between Worlds episode in Season 4.
08:47Now in what feels like a hint at the Mortis Gods having a significant role to play in Ahsoka's story
08:53going forward,
08:54Bale and Skull were seen standing on top of a cliff sculpted to look like The Father
08:58pointing to a point in the distance.
09:00A statue of the sun could also be seen nearby,
09:03however the statue that looks like it would have been of The Daughter has been destroyed,
09:07perhaps reflecting the lack of light in the galaxy at this moment in time.
09:11Number 9, Morai Returns
09:14When the Daughter was on her deathbed during that aforementioned Clone Wars Mortis arc,
09:18the last of her power was ultimately passed onto a recently killed Ahsoka Tano
09:22in an attempt to bring her back to life.
09:25It worked too.
09:26Then in the years that followed that interaction with the Force-sensitive gods,
09:30a little bird began to appear in the likes of the Clone Wars, Rebels, and even the Mandalorian.
09:35This convoy goes by the name of Morai,
09:38with some believing that it is actually The Daughter in another form,
09:41watching over the likes of Tano, Anakin Skywalker, and Ezra Bridger.
09:45And this convoy guardian of sorts once again sweeped down to say a quick hello
09:49towards the end of the season finale.
09:52The look Ahsoka then gives her long-time friend suggests that she could perhaps see her presence on Peridia
09:57as a sign that this is exactly where she needs to be at this precise moment in time.
10:02Number 8, Zeffo Hieroglyphs
10:05As Grand Admiral Thrawn, Morgan Elsbeth, Shin Harty, and Balen Skull
10:09stand in front of the massive Nightsister Fortress on Peridia in Part 6, Far, Far Away,
10:15the symbols on the walls around them seem somewhat familiar to some fans.
10:19During the Jedi Fallen Order video game,
10:21Order 66 survivor Cal Kestis ventures across the galaxy
10:25and eventually discovers an awful lot about the Zeffo species that could wield the Force,
10:30aka Life Wind.
10:31He even finds the tomb of one Zeffo ruler known as Kujet on Dathomir,
10:36the world the Nightsisters eventually settled on in the game.
10:40And during the aforementioned 6th episode in Ahsoka Season 1,
10:43those runes slash hieroglyphs actually appear to contain a message that connects the Zeffo to Peridia.
10:49According to ex-user at Tommy J Wall,
10:53when you translate the runes which seem to be written in Ul-Katat,
10:56the ancient language of the Sith, to English,
10:59they actually read, praise Kujet, ruler of all, may his reign last for Al, and then it cuts off.
11:04So it looks like this dark side using Zeffo didn't just rule in one galaxy far, far away.
11:10Number 7. The Super Commandos Make Their Live Action Debut
11:14The Part 5 Shadow Warrior Epic Clone Wars Flashback
11:18actually brought with it the live action debut of one of the coolest looking soldiers in the galaxy.
11:23Now those who enjoyed the captivating events of Season 7 of the Clone Wars
11:27will likely remember those Mandalorian Super Commandos who swore loyalty to Maul
11:32during this unexpected return to Mandalore.
11:34Whereas those who didn't catch that series were likely just wondering who these awesome demon Boba Fett's were.
11:40These Death Watch members eventually got rid of the blue they'd once sported when being led by Pre Vizsla,
11:45swapping those colours for Maul's black and red after the Sith Lord killed their former leader,
11:51and even adding menacing horns on top of their Beskar helmets.
11:54These Shadow Collective soldiers fought during the Siege of Mandalore
11:58seen in that noted flashback in Ahsoka.
12:00And after only ever seeing Thanos slashing through these Maul loyalists in the animated Star Wars world,
12:06watching the fantastic Ariana Greenblatt take out a few Mandalorian Super Commandos
12:10in a live action version of that iconic battle was surreal to say the least.
12:15Number 6. This isn't the first time we've heard that Nightsisters Creed
12:19During the final episode of Ahsoka Season 1,
12:23Nightsister Morgan Elspeth is presented with a rather disturbing gift.
12:26Said gift of shadows involves the Great Mothers reciting a spooky creed of sorts,
12:32scorching some markings onto her face,
12:34and asking Elspeth things like,
12:36Do you pledge yourself to the sisterhood, to the magics, to the old ways?
12:40And as spotted by the brilliant folks at New Rockstars,
12:43these were actually the exact same words used by Mother Talzin
12:47during the fourth season of the Clone Wars series,
12:49when Asajj Ventress was officially baptised and turned into an official Nightsister.
12:54Number 5. The slightly different version of the Rebels ending
12:57The animated Rebels series ends with Ahsoka Tano arriving on her T-6 ship
13:02to pick up a Sabine Wren who had just been admiring the mural she'd painted of the Spectre clan on
13:07Lothal.
13:08The two then look to be heading off to find Ezra Bridger,
13:11and those who perhaps haven't ever enjoyed the adventures of this Rebel cell on the small screen
13:16possibly didn't spot what initially looked to be a live action reenactment
13:20of that show's ending towards the end of Episode 2.
13:23However, while the scene begins in a similar way to the one seen in the animated series,
13:28with Sabine checking out the artwork,
13:30things then unexpectedly change.
13:32Instead of Ahsoka the White showing up with her staff at this moment,
13:36Ren's master is in her grey attire,
13:38and even comments on Sabine's new haircut.
13:41Even Hu Yang stops by for a quick chat,
13:43suggesting that either Filoni and the gang have opted to completely retcon that Rebel's moment,
13:48or that specific scene is perhaps still yet to happen at this point in the timeline.
13:53Number 4. Do or do not
13:55Master Yoda's wise words of do or do not,
13:58there is no try to Luke Skywalker on Dagobah,
14:01are an old-timer of a knowledge bomb,
14:03and in response to Ahsoka asking her Padawan Sabine Wren
14:06whether she's been keeping up with her training when they reunite on Peridia,
14:10the Mandalorian initially replies by saying how she tries.
14:13She then quickly corrects herself after clocking her master's reaction,
14:17noting, I do.
14:19Now sure it could just be a sweet callback to Yoda's The Empire Strikes Back one-liner,
14:23but it's not outside the realm of possibility
14:25that the little green legend could have passed this knowledge onto a young Tano
14:29at some point in her Jedi training too.
14:32And now she's just passing on that knowledge.
14:35Number 3. Ezra Bridger Sticks to What He Knows
14:37Throughout the Rebels animated show,
14:40Jedi Padawan Ezra Bridger didn't half-love disguising himself as an Imperial soldier
14:44in order to complete a mission.
14:46And in a wonderful but perhaps overlooked nod to that tried-and-tested tactic,
14:51the long-lost Rebel only went and did that very thing once again
14:54during his eventual return home.
14:56In typical Ezra fashion,
14:58the quick-thinking lad impersonated a fallen trooper on a comlink
15:02as the Chimera left Peridia before dragging said stormtrooper away.
15:06Fast forward to the end of the finale,
15:08and Bridger had managed to escape the Star Destroyer
15:10and reunite with Harrison Dula and Chopper,
15:13doing it all whilst in a trusty stormtrooper disguise.
15:16Never change, Bridger.
15:18Number 2. Ahsoka Can Use Force Echo
15:20In the wake of Sabine Wren being impaled by a lightsaber
15:24during the first episode of the season,
15:26Ahsoka Tano pays a visit to her Padawan's home on Lothal.
15:29And it's here when the powerful Force user shows off a special ability
15:33that fans had never actually seen her use on screen
15:36before this show arrived on Disney+.
15:38As Tano wanders around the location,
15:41the sounds of Wren and Shin Hattie's lightsabers clashing can be heard,
15:45showing how the titular figure was experiencing the duel
15:48and gathering vital information about the event
15:50despite not being present when it occurred.
15:53This particular ability has many names,
15:55Psychometry, Force Echo, and Sense Echo,
15:58and has been used by everyone from Master Quinlan Vos to Cal Kestis to Rey.
16:03And Tano now being able to call on this ability
16:05highlights just how much Ahsoka has grown
16:08as she continues to learn the ways of the Force.
16:11Number 1. The First Live-Action Star Wars TV Show with an Opening Crawl
16:15Whereas the likes of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Andor
16:19have never opted for the classic opening crawl way
16:22of starting a brand new story in this galaxy far, far away,
16:26Ahsoka decided to put a new spin on the descending text introduction.
16:30On top of being the first ever opening crawl in live-action Star Wars TV history,
16:35the yellow text is swapped out for a more unnerving red.
16:38John Williams' legendary theme is nowhere to be found,
16:41and even the way the text falls isn't quite the same as those Skywalker saga crawls.
16:46That rhymes, and I did not mean it.
16:48In a way, it's almost like Filoni and Co. have both paid tribute to what came before them,
16:52whilst also kick-starting a bold new era for the franchise,
16:56with something as simple as the reintroducing of a few informative words falling down a screen.
17:02And that's our list of any other things that people somehow missed in Ahsoka Season 1.
17:06Well, you let us know all about them in the comments section right down below,
17:09and don't forget to like, share, and click on that subscribe button while you're down there.
17:13I've been Gareth from WhatCulture Star Wars, may the Force be with you, as always.
17:17Cheers for watching today, guys and gals, and hopefully we'll see you soon.
17:20Bye-bye!
