The all-wheel-drive versions of the all-electric Škoda Elroq and Škoda Enyaq models feature two electric motors, one driving the front axle and the other the rear axle. Electronically controlled coordination of the motors provides all-wheel drive when needed. The rear axle has a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) that ensures efficiency in most driving situations. When required, an asynchronous front motor (ASM) drives the front wheels. The ASM combines short-term overload capacity with low friction losses when not engaged. Since there is no driveshaft, clutch, or differential, there is no mechanical connection between the two axles, allowing the system to react quickly and operate efficiently.
