00:05Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're looking at 10 criminals who lied to everyone on TV.
00:20Liu Hao
00:21Just when Liu Hao thought he'd gotten away with murder, a dating show sealed his fate.
00:26Appearing on a Chinese matchmaking program, Liu wowed the audience with his beautiful voice and confident performance.
00:33Out of eight bachelors, one woman chose him, completely taken by his charm.
00:37What she didn't know was that he was wanted by the police for a murder committed 13 years earlier.
00:43His undoing came not from investigators, but from a viewer.
00:47Someone watching the show recognized him and sent in an anonymous tip.
00:50Soon after, Liu was arrested, based on that lead.
00:54It's unsettling how someone can appear charming and ordinary, when beneath the surface, they're anything but.
01:00Susan Smith
01:01This case remains one of the most chilling examples of televised deception.
01:06In 1994, Susan Smith reported that her car had been hijacked by a black man while her kids were strapped
01:12into the backseat.
01:13They were screaming, hollering, crying, and I'm just scared that he just lost his patience or something.
01:19The claim sparked massive search and intense media coverage.
01:23Smith even appeared on national television, tearfully begging for her children's return.
01:28That they please, I mean, please bring them home to us where they belong.
01:36But under questioning, she finally confessed the truth.
01:40There had been no carjacking and no stranger.
01:43Smith had rolled her car into a lake, drowning her sons, then invented a story to deflect suspicion.
01:49What was her motive?
01:50She reportedly wanted to maintain her relationship with a local man who wanted no children.
01:55After two hours of deliberation by the jury, Smith was sentenced to life in prison.
02:00Susan Smith has been arrested and will be charged with two counts of murder.
02:07François Verove
02:08In 2019, François Verove appeared on a popular French game show, calmly telling the host that he helped keep walkers
02:16safe in Paris parks.
02:17But he was the exact opposite.
02:19In fact, Verove was a serial killer, responsible for at least three murders between 1986 and 1994.
02:26Known as the pockmarked man, he evaded capture for more than 30 years, while living a double life.
02:32His undoing came in 2021, when police requested a DNA sample as part of an investigation linked to his first
02:39victim.
02:39Verove vanished and was later found to have taken his life.
02:43In the note he left behind, he confessed to his crimes.
02:46Yet there he was, on television, pretending to be a heroic figure.
02:51Wallace Sousa
02:52How far would you go to boost the ratings of your TV show?
02:56For Wallace Sousa, the answer was terrifying.
02:59Sousa hosted a popular Brazilian crime program that promised to expose violence, demand justice, and give victims a voice.
03:06The people believed him, didn't they? And they loved him.
03:10For years, he played the fearless journalist, often the first at crime scenes, with shocking, exclusive details.
03:16But suspicion grew when that pattern became impossible to ignore.
03:21Investigators alleged Sousa didn't just report crimes, he helped to orchestrate them.
03:25So while he framed himself as a crime fighter, he was actually a villain.
03:29Former military cop Moa George told police he was merely following orders from his boss,
03:35Wallace Sousa, who he said directed him to carry out brutal executions for his TV show.
03:43Sousa denied all allegations, but what was found in his home raised serious questions.
03:48Before the case could be resolved, Sousa died in 2010, leaving behind one of TV's darkest scandals.
03:54But Wallace's sons remain committed to fighting for their father's name. That's all they have left.
04:02Chris Watts. For bizarre reasons, Chris Watts murdered his own family, then played the role of a devastated husband on
04:10national TV.
04:11If you're out there, just come back. Like, if somebody has her, just please bring her back.
04:16His crimes unraveled thanks to Shannon's friend, who raised the alarm when Shannon stopped replying to her messages.
04:21When police checked Watts' home, they immediately sensed something was wrong.
04:26Shannon's purse, medication, car, and phone were all still inside.
04:30Yet, even as suspicion mounted, Chris claimed he had no idea where his family had gone.
04:36The last time I talked to her was this morning. She said she was going to take the kids to
04:40a friend's house, and that's where she was going to be.
04:42The truth was far darker. He'd already killed them, believing it'd make starting a new life with his girlfriend easier.
04:49Scott Peterson followed the same chilling pattern, playing the grieving husband while hiding the truth.
04:55Richard Satchwell also pleaded for his wife's return when he'd murdered her.
04:59One way or another, this will all come out, and in time it'll all prove that I've done nothing wrong.
05:08John Cooper. In 1989, John Cooper appeared on the popular British game show Bullseye, watched by millions.
05:17No one could know that this charming Welshman was a double murderer.
05:22Calm and ordinary, he told the host he loved scuba diving.
05:25But what Cooper really was, was a serial killer, responsible for killing at least four people.
05:31Just weeks after appearing on Bullseye, he murdered Peter and Gwenda Dixon.
05:35Just three weeks after this episode was filmed, Peter and Gwenda Dixon were shot dead.
05:41He'd later go on to indecently assault multiple victims, commit a series of burglaries, and armed robbery.
05:48During a renewed investigation in the 2000s, his footage on Bullseye and an old composite sketch was later used as
05:54evidence against him.
05:56In 2011, he was sentenced for his crimes.
05:58Cooper thought he was invisible on TV, but he is now forever remembered as the Bullseye Killer.
06:04The skillful combination of forensic investigation and interrogation meant that the cold case which had haunted a community could be
06:12closed.
06:13Stephen Port.
06:14Seeing Stephen Port on BBC's Celebrity MasterChef, you'd think he's just another ordinary chef.
06:21In reality, though, Port was a serial killer who murdered four men between 2014 and 2015 in London.
06:37He used dating apps to lure them, drugged them with lethal doses of GHB, and then staged the scene to
06:44look like accidents.
06:45The most disturbing part? Port got away with it for a long time, because police often treated the cases as
06:51accidents.
06:59In 2016, however, he was found guilty of four counts of murders, alongside other sexual offenses, and got a life
07:06sentence.
07:06Looking back at his appearance on the show, it's a chilling reminder that even the worst monsters don't always look
07:12like one.
07:14Lori Vallow Daybell.
07:15Chad Daybell and Lori Vallow remain one of the deadliest couples to have ever existed.
07:21Together, these two believed the world was headed toward imminent destruction, and they were chosen to lead their followers through
07:27it.
07:27Vallow believed she had a divine mission, and that her family stood in the way of it.
07:32That's how she rationalized murdering her own little ones and others.
07:36Tammy's death was odd from the beginning. Family said she died in her sleep. They didn't want an autopsy performed.
07:45But Vallow wasn't always this warped killer. In 2004, she appeared on Wheel of Fortune as this vibrant mother, and
07:53even later competed in Mrs. Texas.
07:55Talk about your family a little bit.
07:57I have a wonderful husband, Joseph, at home, who is watching our two beautiful children, Colby, who's seven, and Tylee,
08:03who is one.
08:03Yeah, what do you guys like to do for fun?
08:05We like to play all kinds of sports on our three acres.
08:08Okay, sounds like you have a nice life there.
08:09We do.
08:10It's truly unsettling how she looked harmless and even aspirational on these shows, long before she became known as the
08:17Doomsday Mom.
08:18Lori Vallow Daybell was convicted of murder, conspiracy, and theft last July.
08:23She was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
08:26Rodney Alcala.
08:27It takes a chilling mix of audacity and detachment to appear on a popular dating show while in the midst
08:34of a murder spree.
08:36That's what makes Rodney Alcala's case so disturbing.
08:39In 1978, Alcala appeared on The Dating Game Show as this confident guy watched by millions.
08:45Please welcome Rodney Alcala.
08:48Rod, welcome.
08:48The show host even described him as a successful photographer, and he even won the competition.
08:55But Cheryl Bradshaw, the episode's bachelorette, sensed his creepy vibes and refused to go on a date with him.
09:01Can you be a little more descriptive?
09:04Peel me.
09:06Good call, because this same man was later linked to nine murders, even though he may have killed as many
09:12as 130.
09:14Doesn't it make you wonder how many twisted people are hiding in plain sight without ever being suspected?

09:41Jimmy Savile
09:42Known for being a tireless fundraiser and a hospital volunteer who made children's wishes come true, Jimmy Savile was the
09:49last person you'd suspect of being a predator.
09:51He senses an evil presence.
09:53He senses an evil presence?
09:55Yes.
09:56Who could that be?
09:57He built this public image that invoked trust, yet his kindness was a camouflage.
10:02For decades, Savile sexually assaulted hundreds of women.
10:06The scariest part is that his crimes happened in places he should never have had unchecked access.
10:12Victims were afraid to speak up, and institutional failures within the BBC didn't help matters either.
10:18You used to be a wrestler, didn't you?
10:21I still am.
10:22Are you?
10:24I'm feared in every girl's school in this country.
10:28It wasn't until after his death that the full scale of his abuse was revealed.
10:32His honors were revoked and his TV appearances pulled.
10:35But nothing can undo a lifetime of deception and wickedness.
10:40May God forgive me, but I hope he's in hell.
10:42Who is the biggest liar of them all?
