00:00Our elders, our elders, our culture, our culture, our culture, our culture, our culture, and our culture.
00:06We always remember this in our dreams.
00:09But in May, in 2024, we are the most young people.
00:30Part of its vision is to weave in tradition with modernity and sustainability.
00:36When former IDPs, internally displaced persons, when they come back to their homeland,
00:44they get all the facilities, they get housing, they get all social infrastructure,
00:50they have schools for their children, they have local markets,
00:54they have beautiful local neighbourhoods and they have all the facilities
01:00that will let them live there in a very prosperous way.
01:07Karabakh and East Zangazur are known to be models of post-conflict urban recovery
01:13and there are reasons for that.
01:15Many residents have returned to settlements across the districts, towns, cities, villages.
01:20That equates to around 60,000 people living, working and studying.
01:26It's a very big area and consisting of very different type of terrain,
01:31different type of geography, climate and of course the task for us,
01:37for the planners, for architects and for engineers
01:41is to build their sustainable and resilient ecosystem.
01:47A Rale village is an example of a smart village which uses technology
01:53to find digital solutions which are energy efficient.
01:59It's not about houses only, it's about the shape of the houses,
02:04it's about the streets that we're going to use it, it's about cycling lines,
02:09it's about educational facilities, service activities, governmental service activities,
02:13job opportunities, it's all around it.
02:16A Rale sits in the green zone, which means alternative sources of energy
02:21such as solar and hydropower are integrated into everyday life.
02:26The massive reconstruction work started immediately
02:29and in a few years you can see quite a lot of residential settlement was established,
02:35social infrastructure, international airports was built,
02:38as well as the roads and the railways were developed.
02:41It has the hotel, which attracts the tourists, they walk around this village as well.
02:47And it has a hydropower station that we have built, which generates an electricity
02:52and which is enough power to supply energy to the whole village.
03:01While challenges and problem solving are ongoing considerations,
03:05the focus is on housing being pristine, education being prioritized,
03:10employment being available and healthcare being accessible.
03:38Today, Shusha is a flourishing town where we are
03:43we can see a lot of people, we can see a lot of new buildings in the same sense that
03:49were before,
03:51constructed from the same materials, from the using the same techniques,
03:55in the same style, modern, but in very good correlation with the old style.
04:03Every town, every region, let's say, has special architectural school,
04:08which formed during centuries, sometimes millenniums.
04:13The sense of place is very essential and fundamental feeling
04:17to establish the connection with the place.
04:22Today, we have detailed drawings, more than 400 historical buildings,
04:28dozens of maps from 19, 20th century and thousands of photographs,
04:34which previously never published.
04:37And this allows us to restore and reconstruct historical buildings with high accuracy.
04:44There's no doubt that simultaneously building several smart developments is ambitious.
04:49However, it's clear to see that construction is well underway
04:54and residents are settling into their new environments.
