00:30Part of its vision is to weave in tradition with modernity and sustainability.
00:36When former IDPs, internally displayed persons,
00:40when they come back to their homeland,
00:44they get all the facilities,
00:47they get housing,
00:48they get all social infrastructure,
00:50they have schools for their children,
00:52they have local markets,
00:54they have beautiful local neighborhoods
00:57and they have all the facilities that will let them live there in a very prosperous way.
01:07Karabakh and East Zangazur are known to be models of post-conflict urban recovery
01:13and there are reasons for that.
01:15Many residents have returned to settlements across the districts,
01:18towns, cities, villages.
01:20That equates to around 60,000 people living, working and studying.
01:25It's a very big area and consisting of very different type of terrain,
01:31different type of geography, climate.
01:34And of course the task for us, for the planners, for architects and for engineers,
01:41is to build their sustainable and resilient ecosystem.
01:48Arale village is an example of a smart village,
01:52which uses technology to find digital solutions which are energy efficient.
01:59It's not about houses only,
02:02it's about the shape of the houses,
02:04it's about the streets that we're going to use it,
02:07it's about cycling lines,
02:09it's about educational facilities,
02:11service activities, governmental service activities,
02:13job opportunities.
02:14It's all around it.
02:17Arale sits in the green zone,
02:19which means alternative sources of energy,
02:22such as solar and hydropower,
02:23are integrated into everyday life.
02:26The massive reconstruction work started immediately.
02:29And in a few years,
02:31you can see quite a lot of residential settlement was established,
02:35social infrastructure,
02:37international airports was built,
02:38as well as the roads and the railways were developed.
02:41It has the hotel,
02:42which attracts the tourists.
02:44They walk around this village as well.
02:47And it has a hydropower station that we have built,
02:50which generates an electricity
02:52and which is enough power to supply energy to the whole village.
03:01While challenges and problem solving are ongoing considerations,
03:05the focus is on housing being pristine,
03:07education being prioritized,
03:10employment being available
03:12and healthcare being accessible.
03:38Today, Shusha is a flourishing town,
03:42where we can see a lot of people,
03:45we can see a lot of new buildings
03:47in the same sense that were before.
03:51Constructed from the same materials,
03:53from the using the same techniques
03:55in the same style,
03:58modern,
03:59but in very good correlation with the old style.
04:03Every town, every region,
04:06let's say,
04:06has a special architectural school,
04:08which formed during centuries,
04:10sometimes millenniums.
04:13The sense of place is very essential
04:15and fundamental feeling
04:17to establish the connection with the place.
04:22Today, we have detailed drawings,
04:25more than 400 historical buildings,
04:28dozens of maps from 19-20th century
04:31and thousands of photographs,
04:34which previously never published.
04:37And this allows us to restore
04:40and reconstruct historical buildings
04:42with high accuracy.
04:44There's no doubt
04:45that simultaneously building
04:47several smart developments is ambitious.
04:50However,
04:51it's clear to see that construction
04:52is well underway
04:54and residents are settling
04:55into their new environments.
04:57in the past.
05:00We'll see you next time.
05:00We'll see you next time.
