00:00Dragons at Jubilee Square are just one of the many ways the people of Maidstone are celebrating the Lunar New
00:10Year.
00:11And just like the New Years we celebrate here in the UK, this event is just as colourful, musical and
00:20makes long lasting memories, whether you're human or animal.
00:25We're really pleased with the celebration today for the Lunar New Year, the Year of the Horse.
00:30The Year of the Horse symbolises community spirit, it symbolises energy, it symbolises resilience.
00:36And that's what we're about as Cohesion Plus and that's what the ethos of this event is.
00:39And we're particularly pleased to be working in partnership with Maidstone Borough Council and Maidstone Cultural Group.
00:44And I feel that the number of local residents have come out today and support the event just underlines the
00:50popularity of what we're trying to do.
00:51It's incredibly important to bring more cohesion to Maidstone, particularly as we're in a spate at the moment with lots
01:00of Chinese people coming to Maidstone from Hong Kong.
01:04So we need to make them feel welcome and at home.
01:10My favourite part is actually sharing our culture with everybody and seeing all the children happy and watching all the
01:21performance, enjoying all the excitement.
01:25That's my favourite part.
01:27The celebration has unfortunately run out of fortune cookies, but I managed to secure this little mini donut.
01:36So I guess that's a sign of good things to come.
01:40The organisers of this Chinese New Year celebration hope the good energy will bring people good fortune on horseback or
01:52otherwise.
