00:00Even some of Donald Trump's own supporters are beginning to question his sharpness and behavior,

00:04according to a new national poll focusing on perceptions of the 79-year-old president's

00:09mental fitness. A Reuters-Ipsos survey conducted between February 18th and 23rd among 4,638 adults

00:17found that 30% of Republicans believe Trump has become erratic with age, while 17% think he is

00:23not mentally sharp or able to handle challenges. Overall, 61% of Americans said he has become

00:29erratic with age, and 49% said he is not mentally sharp enough to deal with challenges. The poll

00:34also showed differences across political groups. Among Democrats, 89% described Trump as erratic with

00:40age and 78% said he is not mentally sharp or able to deal with challenges. Among independents, 64%

00:47said he has become erratic with age and 53% questioned his mental sharpness. Support for

00:53Trump's ability to manage the demands of the presidency has also declined in some groups.

00:56Only 19% of Democrats now say he is capable of handling the job's demands, down from 29%

01:03previously. Among independents, 36% view him as mentally sharp, compared to 53% in a 2023 poll.

01:10Concerns about Trump's health and cognitive state have been fueled by several recent incidents

01:14mentioned in public discussion, including mistakenly referring to Greenland as Iceland during an

01:19appearance in Davos and needing a prompt from Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt when recalling the

01:24name of his father's medical condition. The president has also appeared with bruises on

01:28his hands at official events and has been seen with swollen ankles. Previously, the White House

01:33disclosed that he had been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, an age-related condition that

01:38affects blood circulation in the legs. Additionally, Trump has occasionally appeared drowsy at formal

01:43events, though he has consistently dismissed concerns about his cognitive health. He has said he has aced

01:48multiple cognitive tests and maintains that he remains in strong physical and mental condition.
