00:04Despite a temporary respite in long lorry queues at the Second Link land checkpoint after Chinese New Year,
00:09truckers are demanding a permanent solution to persistent congestion.
00:18Drivers say the temporary holding area within the Sultan Abu Bakar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex, or KSAB,
00:25merely shifts queues off the highway without solving the underlying problem.
00:30They complain of walking up to 500 metres between parked lorries and document submission points
00:36before driving through the checkpoint scanner.
00:39More than 3,000 lorries faced nearly 8-kilometer jams before the festive season
00:44due to stringent checks using a single scanner at KSAB's export bay.
00:50Singapore operates six scanners for incoming lorries
00:53and doesn't scan departing vehicles,
00:56while Malaysia has only two scanners for arrivals.
01:15Johor Trucking Association President Chan Pei Yun urged urgent KSAB upgrades,
01:21including additional scanners.
01:22She called for more flexibility after round-the-clock operations
01:27before Chinese New Year left.
01:29Some drivers stuck for up to six hours.
01:32Chan said delays caused problems for time-sensitive port deliveries
01:36and left lorries without designated Singapore parking.
01:40Meanwhile, Johor Transport and Logistics Operators Association President Frankie Cha Ji-on said
01:46moving lorries to the holding area was not a viable long-term solution
01:51as it doesn't address the real issue of delays at KSAB.
01:56Since the severe jams, many truckers have diverted to Bangunan Sultan Iskandar CIQ in Johor Bahru
02:02despite the RM200 goods vehicle levy,
02:06four times KSAB's RM50 charge.
02:17So, let's train and legal management.
02:18Now, when you start at an emergency I think they're in the hospital
02:19that brings me 1 wheel to improve the warp and storage.
