00:00So, I worked at Calvin Klein in the 90s, the late 90s.
00:04I just missed Carolyn Bessette by, I think, two years.
00:09And I worked in the sales and women's collection,
00:12and I just thought I would give you a few things
00:15that happened when I was working there
00:17that I think would send people into a coma now
00:19of what we were and were not allowed to do.
00:22So I was in the showroom of collections,
00:24so in the corporate office.
00:26So I sold the clothes to Bergdorf's, Neiman's,
00:29Saks, that type of thing.
00:31And we had a very specific image
00:33that we were supposed to uphold.
00:35So the first thing was we were not allowed
00:37to wear any nail polish.
00:39Our nails had to be completely nude.
00:41There was no color allowed on our nails.
00:44So the second thing was makeup.
00:46You really needed to wear extremely minimalist makeup.
00:51Everyone's makeup looked like Carolyn's.
00:53We had very thin eyebrows.
00:54It was the 90s.
00:56And people wore very, very minimal, minimal makeup.
01:01So you had, you know, there was no bright eyeshadows.
01:05There was no bright lips.
01:06Like, everything was, like, super neutral.
01:08And typically, your hair was pulled back in a ponytail.
01:11I had to laugh when I saw in the show
01:14that Carolyn was getting red roses delivered
01:16because that was something else
01:18that we were not allowed to have on our desks.
01:20So Calvin was very strict image-wise.
01:23And every door, every office floor opened,
01:26the elevator opened up to a receptionist
01:29that was sitting there with kella lilies on her desk.
01:32So there was always white flowers.
01:34But you were not allowed to have flowers or in sales,
01:37you weren't, where I worked, on your desk
01:39that were not white.
01:41So the red roses would have been maybe a problem,
01:44but maybe not if it was from him.
01:45So jewelry, again, had to be super, super minimal.
01:49You could not wear a ton of jewelry.
01:50They would ask you to take it off
01:52if you were wearing anything
01:53other than something super simple like this.
01:56And because I worked in collection sales,
01:59I did see Calvin a lot
02:01because it was where the collection was.
02:03So he would be in and out all the time
02:05and we were not allowed to talk to him.
02:08You were not to look at him.
02:10You weren't to speak to him.
02:11You really, you did your work
02:13and you just kind of stayed out of the way.
02:14Like going up to him and having a conversation
02:16was a really big no-no.
02:17So unless he spoke to you, you kept to yourself.
02:21I mean, I could go on and on and on.
02:23So if you guys want to hear any more,
02:24let me know and I'll do a part two.
