00:01President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. talks about the qualifications of the candidate he will endorse
00:06for the 2028 presidential elections. A Pasay City court upholds the detention of contractor
00:12Curly Discaya in the Senate. Pasig City secures a $1 million grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies
00:18for floating parks. And old rivals Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather will face each other again
00:23in September. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. says his top consideration for the candidate he will
00:36anoint for the 2028 presidential elections is, quote, somebody who understands economics.
00:41During the ASEAN Editors and Economic Opinion Leaders Forum, Marcos says the next leader should
00:47know how to keep the inflation rate low, secure enough food supply, create jobs, improve public
00:52health, and fix the education system. Someone who thinks about productivity because growth is about
00:58productivity. Asked if he had narrowed his choices to two or three names, he says he had some people
01:04in mind but some had declined. Marcos adds, while the pool is not limited to those already in public
01:09service, it would be unwise to choose someone with no government experience. He also says he will not
01:14be endorsing anyone soon, noting that timing is everything.
01:22He holds the detention of controversial contractor Curly Diskaya in the Senate but also tells the
01:26Blue Ribbon Committee to act on Diskaya's motion for reconsideration that has been unresolved for
01:31an unconscionably long period. In a 22-page ruling, the Pasay City RTC denies Diskaya's petition to nullify
01:37the Senate panel's contempt order that led to his detention. The court says Diskaya failed to prove
01:43that his detention was illegal or that the Senate committed grave abuse of discretion.
01:46The Senate detained Diskaya on September 18, 2025 after inconsistencies in his statements as to why
01:52his wife, Sarah, failed to attend a Senate hearing. Sarah is detained at the Lapu-Lapu City Jail in Cebu
01:58for a malversation case over a P96.5 million alleged ghost project in Davao Occidental.
02:06The Pasig City government, led by Mayor Vico Soto, secures P1 million or P57.77 million in funding to
02:14convert underused rivers and creeks into a network of floating parks. Pasig was among 24 cities selected
02:20from 630 applicants in the Bloomberg Philanthropies 2025-2026 Mayor's Challenge. The Mayor's Challenge
02:27is a global program that supports innovative city solutions through annual grants. The grant will
02:32fund Pasig City's proposal to build modular public spaces along the Pasig River to address the lack of
02:38accessible open spaces in the densely populated city. Soto says the project aims to create more open
02:44and usable spaces through floating parks along the city's historic river.
02:50Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. will face off in a professional rematch at the Sphere in Las
02:55Vegas on September 20. This marks Mayweather's return from retirement and will be the first
03:00professional boxing match held at the Sphere. Mayweather Jr., who holds an undefeated 50-0 record
03:05with 27 knockouts, beat Manny Pacquiao in their 2015 bout billed as the fight of the century.
03:11He says in a statement, quote, I already fought and beat Manny once. This time will be the same result.
03:17Pacquiao, who holds a 62-8-3 record with 39 knockouts, says he is confident he could
03:22give Mayweather Jr. his first professional loss.
