00:00If you finally want to really understand the power of the dark side, and learn about things like the origin
00:07of certain Sith rules, then you know what you have to do.
00:10Watch the following 10 Sith Stuffed Entries, do it!
00:15So I am Gareth here from WhatCultureStarWars and here are 10 things you didn't know about the Sith.
00:20Number 10, we've only ever seen 5 Sith alive on screen.
00:24Despite there being a grand total of 9 Skywalker Saga features, a couple of spin-off big screen entries, and
00:31a number of live-action and animated series out there for fans to relive over and over again at their
00:37pleasure, the number of living Sith Lords that have been seen in those projects is surprisingly low.
00:42Now sure, there have been a whole host of different dark side practitioners involved in everything from the movies, to
00:48the likes of the Clone Wars and even this year's Ahsoka.
00:51And despite even Darth Bane showing up for an appearance as a Vision in the Clone Wars, the fact he
00:57wasn't actually amongst the living at the time still means that only 5 alive and kicking Sith Lords have shown
01:03up on screen to date.
01:05At time of recording then, Darth Vader, Darth Sidious, Count Dooku, Maul and Savage Opress are the only corrupted souls
01:12to have fully risen to the level of Dark Lord of the Sith on screen.
01:16Now I've got a quick question for you, who is your favourite Sith Lord? One of the ones I've mentioned
01:21or somebody else? Let me know in the comments section down below.
01:25Number 9, why the Rule of Two was created.
01:28When talking to his new apprentice slash brother during the 5th season of the Clone Wars, the recently returned Maul
01:34tells Savage Opress, always too there are, a master and an apprentice.
01:38And if this sounds a little familiar, it's because that's pretty much the exact thing Master Yoda told Mace Windu
01:44towards the end of the Phantom Menace when talking about the return of the dreaded Sith.
01:49Both powerful Force users were actually referencing the Sith Rule of Two here, a commandment put in place by none
01:55other than the aforementioned Darth Bane.
01:57But why did this particular Sith Lord decide to establish the rule in the first place?
02:02Well, a millennium before the events of the Skywalker Saga kicked off, the Jedi finally got the better of their
02:07ancient enemy.
02:08With Bane being the only remaining survivor, after the Sith's desire for more power left them turning on one another
02:15and making themselves vulnerable to their adversaries.
02:17So, in an attempt to keep this from happening again, as the Sith looked to exact revenge on the Jedi,
02:23Bane created a new rule that stated there could now only ever be a powerful dark side using Master and
02:29an apprentice craving that power, who will one day strike them down and take their place.
02:34Of course, with Sith being greedy souls at their core, this rule has been bent and broken on numerous occasions
02:40over the years.
02:41And unsurprisingly, the return of the Sith never really lasted all that long in the wake of Darth Sidious' rise,
02:47fall, rise, and then fall again.
02:49Number 8. The Sith Can't Become Force Ghosts
02:52As previously noted, Darth Bane did pop up as a vision of sorts during Yoda's quest to learn how to
02:57manifest his life after death in the Clone Wars series.
03:01But this was little more than a test designed by the Force Priestesses to see whether they could convince the
03:06Great Master to join the dark side.
03:08Unlike the various Jedi legends who have discovered the secrets to immortality through the Force, the Sith can't actually become
03:15Force Ghosts after death.
03:17That's not to say the dark side users haven't figured out their own creepy ways to cheat death over the
03:21years, though.
03:22Take Darth Sidious, for example.
03:24That wrinkly menace opted to transfer his soul into a clone body in the wake of being chucked down a
03:29reactor shaft in Return of the Jedi.
03:31And while Darth Vader did technically show up as a Force Ghost after his death in that same feature,
03:36this only went down after Anakin Skywalker had saved his son, redeemed himself, and seen the light during his final
03:43moments.
03:44Simply put, the Sith have some funky ways to continue causing chaos after dying,
03:48but they still don't have it in them to go all blue after biting the dust.
03:52Number 7. They Have A Few Important Worlds
03:54When Yoda eventually encountered a vision of the creator of the Rule of Two during those aforementioned tests,
04:00the world he was wandering around on was a place known as Morabund.
04:03As noted in the Clone Wars show, this was the ancient homeworld of the Sith.
04:08Known in the past as Korriban, this planet was transformed into a wasteland due to the many different wars that
04:14were fought there over the years,
04:15and it also held the various tombs of many a deceased Sith Lord.
04:19This isn't the only place the Sith made their mark on, however.
04:22There's also Exegol, the foggy and dark hidden world of the evil Force users seen in The Rise of Skywalker,
04:28a place that boasted the Sith Citadel and more than a few members of the Sith Eternal.
04:34Then there's Malachor, a world that the Sith decided to build a horrifying superweapon on,
04:38and a Sith Temple underneath its surface.
04:41Said destructive weapon ultimately saw many a Jedi and Sith being suddenly killed and petrified in the Great Scourge of
04:48Malachor.
04:48And speaking of the many worlds the ancient enemy of the Jedi opted to build on at various points in
04:53Star Wars history,
04:54Number 6, the Jedi Temple was built on a Sith Shrine
04:57That's right, the iconic Jedi Temple found on the city planet of Coruscant
05:01wasn't the first thing to occupy that particular piece of land.
05:05Before the Jedi Headquarters were established on the world,
05:08the Sith erected a shrine on top of a strong light side vergence in the Force there,
05:12a sacred mountain spire.
05:14The aim was to corrupt this place via the dark side of the Force,
05:17and they ultimately did exactly that.
05:20However, once the Jedi had defeated their mortal enemy during one particular battle on the planet around 5000 BBY,
05:26said shrine was raised and what would eventually grow into the Jedi Temple seen during the prequels
05:31was built over its foundations by four Jedi Masters.
05:35And while the Jedi seemingly did all they could to wipe out the Sith's presence on the planet over the
05:39next few thousand years,
05:41they still couldn't stop the forces of darkness from reclaiming the site in the end.
05:45Has Emperor Palpatine transformed the Jedi Monument into his own personal Imperial Palace post Order 66?
05:51Number 5, the Sith actually have a code slash mantra too.
05:55While you may have understandably assumed that the despicable Sith didn't really stick to any real rules or code,
06:01outside of the already noted rule of two,
06:03but even that one had a habit of being broken, didn't it?
06:05You would actually be wrong.
06:07Similarly to how the Jedi Order follow their own Jedi code,
06:11one that contains its own mantra with such comforting words as
06:14there is no emotion, there is peace,
06:16the Sith also have their own set of core beliefs too.
06:19Created as an inversion of the aforementioned code of their enemy,
06:22the Sith code contains ominous gems such as
06:25peace is a lie, there is only passion,
06:27and through power I gain victory.
06:29And it was first seen in the animated Clone Wars series during the Altar of Mortis episode in Season 3,
06:34whereas the Jedi code's mantra focuses on peace, wisdom, and control.
06:39The Sith's version highlighted how these Force users relied on strength and passion to gain victory and freedom
06:45after choosing to walk the darker path.
06:47In other words, someone clearly took one look at the Jedi way of doing things and thought,
06:51nah, the opposite sounds like more fun.
06:55Number 4, who was the first Sith?
06:57While the current Disney Star Wars canon may not have gone as far as to identify
07:01exactly which rogue Jedi created the Sith Order thousands of years before the Skywalker Saga went down,
07:07the Legends section of the galaxy far, far away very much did.
07:11Going by the name of Ajunta Paul,
07:13this leader of the Dark Jedi was exiled from the Order before eventually becoming the first ever Dark Lord of
07:19the Sith.
07:19Why did Paul clash with the Jedi around 7,000 BBY though?
07:23Well, this intelligent Jedi Master actually figured out how to create and shape life while studying alchemy.
07:28And with the Order feeling that this was simply not on, he was forbidden from continuing his work.
07:34Something that led to Paul and his Dark Jedi followers kicking off a war with the Jedi soon after.
07:39As the 100-year darkness period reached its end though, Paul and his pals were defeated.
07:44Refusing to simply accept this, Paul would then land on the planet of Korriban, aka Moraband,
07:49you know, the one I mentioned earlier?
07:51And eventually create a whole new Sith Empire in the years that followed his defeat at the hands of the
07:55Jedi.
07:56And the rest was galaxy-changing history.
07:59Number 3. They share their name with an alien species.
08:02Sticking with that moment in Legends time when Ajunta Paul arrived on the planet Korriban all those years ago,
08:08it was here when the exiled Dark Jedi discovered a race of alien beings known as, well, the Sith.
08:13These humanoids with red skin, facial tentacles and bone spurs,
08:17very much knew the ways of the Dark side of the Force.
08:20And after eventually winning the Korriban natives over with their impressive technology and own ability to control the Force,
08:26Paul and the rest of the exiles would go on to be worshipped by the Sith.
08:30Also in the wake of Paul becoming the first Dark Lord of the Sith,
08:33Paul's followers would then interbreed with the Sith over the years as the Sith Empire continued to grow.
08:39There's actually a Sith race present in the current canon universe too.
08:43These similarly red-skinned and tentacled aliens are also known for using the Dark side of the Force.
08:48But fans are still yet to see either version of the original Sith in the galaxy far, far away on
08:53the big or small screen.
08:55Number 2. What goes into making a Sith lightsaber?
08:58On top of a fondness for black clothing and hoods,
09:01the Sith are also known for using a red lightsaber when clashing with Jedi,
09:05and any other unfortunate soul who stands in their way.
09:08But did you know exactly how a Sith gives their trusty laser sword that distinctly evil look?
09:13It's well known that a kyber crystal powers the weapon of the Jedi and Sith.
09:17However, while the Jedi simply place their chosen crystal within the rather useful tool,
09:21and watch a much more positive colour burst out,
09:23the Sith have to do something pretty, well, disturbing.
09:26With it not being possible to create the colour red naturally during the lightsaber creation process,
09:31Sith must pump dark side energy, rage, fear, and all that horrible stuff into their chosen kyber crystal
09:38to achieve the desired result.
09:40An act known as bleeding.
09:41This wasn't always a straightforward process either.
09:44With Ben Solo's attempts to bleed his kyber crystal leading to it ultimately being cracked.
09:49And that's what forced the eventual Kylo Ren to go for a cross-guard lightsaber,
09:53diverting the extra heat created by the crystal out the sides of his weapon's handles via vent.
09:58And number 1. Why their eyes turn yellow?
10:00Along with the aforementioned red blade and unmistakable attire,
10:04the Sith can also be spotted sporting a set of startling yellow eyes on occasion.
10:08The various evil figures in the galaxy didn't simply pop in a set of spooky contact lenses
10:13after deciding to take a walk on the dark side though.
10:16Eyes are seen as the windows to the soul within the Star Wars universe.
10:20So when a Sith finally fully embraced the hate and anger sitting within them,
10:24their eyes would naturally reflect what was going on inside at that very moment.
10:28This can clearly be seen when Anakin Skywalker viciously slaughters the Separatist leaders on Mustafar
10:33in Revenge of the Sith, with his eyes going from yellow as he slices through the room,
10:38to his typical colour when talking to his beloved Padme shortly after.
10:41And when it comes to Maul, well he was clearly just not loving life throughout the entirety of his time
10:46on screen.
10:47However, some of the more powerful Sith out there could actually mask the unlimited evil and hatred
10:53that would usually be seen in their eyes, as Sheev Palpatine masterfully did throughout the Clone Wars,
10:59before, you know, he eventually decided to don the yellow and red-eyed wrinkly bag look full-time.
11:04And that is our list, folks!
