00:03Hi David, well battled, you know today's plan on especially in terms of taking on Varun Chakravati
00:10who's had so much success against you guys seemed quite different can you just talk us through how
00:14you guys decided you would attack him? Yeah look he's a world-class bowler and it's he has had
00:22huge success you know in all different formats that he's played all different leagues and yeah
00:27especially international so I think for us it was more just I mean it's not like in the past where
00:33we've been quite you know tentative but I think it's just about really making sure that we were on
00:38it in terms of if he bowls a bad ball we got to put it away so a little bit
00:43more intent and it wasn't
00:46spinning too much tonight so you can kind of trust the trust the line and you know once we felt
00:53that
00:53then we felt okay we we've got to take him down because he is a threat to you know to
00:58every team
00:58that he does play against so it was definitely something that we we did speak about. And yourself
01:04I mean coming in with the situation as it was you know you had a long time to bat and
01:08it's probably
01:09your best knock for some time what did that feel like and just how does your own rhythm and form
01:14feel?
01:14Yeah it felt really really good to obviously put a performance like that against India in a big team
01:20in a big game but yeah I think in those situations 20 for three you know it's just about making
01:26sure
01:26that you're really in good positions and and not necessarily loose this is how I approach it and
01:32making sure that my intent is really good you know you have to be able to put the bad balls
01:37away and
01:37then it it applies pressure on the opposition so I thought we did that really well built something nice
01:43and and and quickly just the first five what is it 50 and 30 odd balls partnership so it was
01:50it we were
01:51going at a good rate and then just trying to keep that momentum going you know we knew that we
01:57had
01:58Stubbs and Mark Jansen and and and and Boshy in you know in the shed so it allowed us to
02:05to keep that momentum going
02:09um David it's it's been do you ever keep count of the times that you've batted South Africa out of
02:15trouble
02:16uh no I just um you know what batting in the middle order I think uh it really it really
02:23does um
02:24allow for opportunities when the team is down uh it allows you know you don't often get a huge opportunity
02:30and you know be able to bat long periods of time so when the team I actually really enjoy it
02:36um
02:36I mean obviously you don't want to be in in trouble but you know I I do um found the
02:43positive out of it
02:43and it and it allows me to to make a play um yeah so it's it's really you know cool
02:50to to be able to
02:51put in a performance like that um but like I said it it it takes a team effort uh the
02:56guys bowled phenomenally
02:57well tonight and um and then Stubbo coming in at the back end there and and scoring a quick 40
03:02which was
03:02you know massive uh in the context of things if I also just can't ask um do probably everyone feels
03:10pressure but but what is sort of your your uh philosophy around around pressure look I think
03:17it's taken a bit of time you know I've been playing uh playing the game for a while now and
03:21it's uh it's
03:22about making sure that uh I really do stick to you know when there's high preferred moments uh in in
03:28front of a a big audience like tonight um it's about making sure that you really stick to the
03:33simple things and and the basics and do that really well like I said my intent always has to be
03:38up um
03:38making sure that I have limited movements uh when you know when the ball is bold so I'm nice and
03:44still
03:44um my breathing running hard you know all those simple things that that people kind of you know
03:50it's it's cliche but it really does you know in the heat of battle those are the things that I
03:54clutch to
03:55so um and then you know this game is is a game of of of risks and and you are
04:03going to fail
04:04um as a cricketer um so it's about making sure that you playing to your terms
04:12um David this uh this match looked and I'm sure it wasn't easy for South Africa but particularly
04:17after your intervention it kind of looked easy tell me why it wasn't easy um no it wasn't easy
04:25uh it was you know playing against India is always really difficult and you know they got some
04:30incredible team and and players and I think it's um we played a lot against them and with them as
04:36well
04:36for the IPL and that and um when it's two big teams like that it's about making sure that you
04:41you do um the simple things for longer period of time uh when the pressure does come you you kind
04:48of
04:49absorb it um get through that and like I said it takes a team effort so you know scoring 187
04:55I think
04:56we got um I thought it was a fair total I thought you know we were pushing for 200 plus
05:02um but then getting
05:04three wickets in the power play um you know with our bowlers was just I mean it was uh the
05:10guys bowled
05:11phenomenally well and um backed it up with good fielding so I really thought it was a it was an
05:17all-round great performance put them under pressure um and yeah it was it was good to to get a
05:24win over
05:24them anybody just grab another um this was really both teams I suppose moment of truth in this tournament
05:30so far and that's a long way from the knockouts but you know winning like you did where does that
05:36leave
05:36you what does that talk to you about this team where they are now uh that they are beatable um
05:44you
05:45know India come with uh as I mentioned they an incredible team um but I think for us in a
05:50tournament
05:51like this it's about making sure that we do uh you know um as I said I keep going back
05:57to the simple
05:58things and making sure that we stay in our lane as a player and do the job and get the
06:02job done
06:03um we're we're a mature team a lot of guys have played together and a lot of cricket to
06:08you know for South Africa and um and that goes a long way under pressure so I think it's just
06:14staying in your lane making sure that you get the job done um and keep wanting more well first of
06:22well batted I just wanted to know about your your team's bowling plan uh first of all playing few
06:28games here coming into this main well that's that does that experience help because the way you guys
06:35use the wicket you completely out bowl the Indians also uh how easy or how um difficult maybe it is
06:42play it is a plan to plan a bowling plan against a team which has six left handers in their
06:47lineup
06:47and you know that some of their batters are not very good starter against uh spinners yeah I mean
06:53it's uh it is difficult um like I said the guys executed really really well I thought they changed
06:59up quite a lot uh you know lungi and giri coming in and bowling a lot of slow balls um
07:03fun like uh you
07:04know the Indian batting lineup is is really dangerous and uh they hit a lot of sixes and a lot
07:10of boundaries
07:10so it is um I think it's just accepting the fact that they're really good and making sure that
07:16you kind of put that aside and and and come up with plans that might be different um and
07:23tonight it was it was really good different fields um and obviously getting 187 on the board
07:31getting one or two wickets up front always puts the opposition under pressure so um that was always our
07:37objective and um I thought the guys executed really really well so there's a lot of playing that does go
07:43towards it um I can't remember what you do the second question with the spinners yeah so look
07:51Kesha Maharaj I mean he's he's an experienced um player he's bowled a lot of overs in his life and
07:59um
07:59been in in pressured situations and it is difficult to to come in and and and bowl to six lefties
08:06but uh
08:06i thought he did so well he uh he changed it up different lines around the wickets um you know
08:12all that kind of stuff and then and then the the pace guys also got through through the lefties so
08:17it is an intimidating uh batting lineup but uh slowly but surely we got through them
08:28uh yeah i mean we've watched other games and and it was just something that you know uh it was
08:36it was
08:37it was nice to just have both left-handers you know you've got his ball spinning away uh it gives
08:42some sort of option where if it's not turning it can go straight through the gate or if it does
08:47hold a
08:47little bit um like it did um you know it gives you that um hope that we can get a
08:53wicket um you
08:55know in the first over
08:58firstly congratulations i'm not sure if you've clocked it yet but your both your average and
09:02your strike rate in t20 is highest in india among all the destinations so if you could give us an
09:08insight about what is it playing in india that suits so well it suits your batting style so well it's
09:13almost like hand in glove to your batting template right yeah i think uh i mean in there i've had
09:19a
09:20lot of not outs so um i always uh people give me trouble about uh give me stick about uh
09:27all my not
09:27outs but uh i think it's about giving myself a chance uh you know get into the in in the
09:32competition
09:33into the game um assess the conditions really well and then go from there so unfortunately it's worked
09:39out in the last couple games and um i feel really confident in my role i've been playing that role
09:44for a long time so it's just making sure that i'm in the best possible space and and and just
09:49playing
09:50to a quarter you know my strengths um yeah so that's pretty much it cool thanks guys
