00:07This is Team Kid KJ, the world's first ever monster trucks team made up entirely of pre-teens and teenagers.
00:22Formed in 2010, the team is the brainchild of owner and founder Todd Weston and is named
00:29after his son KJ who was the first member of the team at the tender age of five and a
00:34half.
00:35Hey KJ, you got a minute for an interview? Your fans want to know.
00:40So, it was a lot of fun being able to hit all the jumps for you guys but what happened
00:46is I was a little unaligned with the jumps so I came down sideways and I broke the drive
00:51shaft loops right out and hopefully we'll have it fixed for the next year.
00:55Were those jumps pretty exciting though? You caught a lot of air.
00:57Yeah, they were a lot of fun.
00:58Since then the team has gone from strength to strength and now boasts more than 20 full-time
01:04members across the United States.
01:06Members of the team as young as six years old are taught the essentials of driving in
01:11monster trucks and only the most talented and mature drivers are considered for a place in
01:16the team.
01:17Another requirement of the team's members is that the kids have to have an average of
01:21more A grades than Bs in their schoolwork to keep their place.
01:26Collectively, Team Kid KJ has more than ten monster trucks worth more than $3.5 million
01:32and on average it spends $150,000 a year to maintain their fleet of trucks.
01:39Capable of reaching speeds of up to 70 miles per hour, the smaller more specialised monster
01:45trucks can keep up with their larger counterparts but for the sake of safety are limited to 35 miles
01:51miles per hour during shows. Despite their smaller sized trucks, these mini-marvels have proven
01:57that they can keep up and perform at more than 60 shows a year.
