00:08His death comes less than a year after he revealed he'd been diagnosed with ALS.

00:18Carolyn, the announcement tonight and from people I'm talking to, the general consensus is so young, so soon, so quick.
00:25Eric Dane's death comes 10 months after the actor went public last April with his ALS diagnosis, also known as
00:34Lou Gehrig's disease.
00:35And then last June, he spoke at the Health and Human Services Department.
00:40Diagnosed at the age of 52, Eric earned the title of McSteamy for his role as a hot doc on
00:46Grey's Anatomy, later starring in The Last Ship on TNT.
00:49And most recently, in the HBO series Euphoria, that will premiere its third season this year with Eric Dane.
00:57Last year, Dane vowed to return to work, but just recently, he missed an ALS benefit held in Pasadena in
01:04January.
01:05The ALS network said Dane had to drop out, and I'm quoting here, due to the physical realities of living
01:11with ALS.
01:13In a statement today, throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to
01:21make a difference for others facing the same fight.
01:24Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he's received.
