00:00In this context, we go now to Buenos Aires with our correspondent, Melinda Los Santos.
00:05She's there and has more details on this nationwide action that has vowed to paralyze the country.
00:10Let's see.
00:16Hello, studios. It's a day of general strike here in Argentina,
00:20and we are just meters away from the Congress because the lower chamber,
00:25the deputies, are going to debate the labor reform.
00:29This is the second debate after it was approved in the Senate last week.
00:33This is the Congress square, and organizations have summoned themselves once again here in rejection of the labor reform.
00:41So we were saying that this is a day of general strike.
00:45Argentina has stopped economical activities for today.
00:49It is a reform and also measures that are going to target the working class.
00:56That is what the organizations understand.
00:58That is why the CGT summoned for this general strike.
01:02They are saying that it is having a great impact so far during this day.
01:07And we are here at the demonstration.
01:10Several organizations, the unions, the worker organizations, social and political organizations as well,
01:17have summoned themselves once again to show their rejection in the context of this reform being debated once again.
01:24They want this reform not to pass because it tackles and it goes against some of the rights that the
01:31workers have gained and have had in Argentina for decades.
01:35One of the most controversial ones, for example, targeting the medical licenses for workers,
01:41but also the pensions, the possibility of getting severance payments after being fired.
01:49Different conditions that are targeting the working class and their rights.
01:54That is what we are seeing here in Argentina, a great police deployment.
01:59The government has answered this demonstration in past occasions with severe police brutality.
02:06So we are going to see what happens at this moment.
02:09We continue reporting here from the Congress in Buenos Aires.
02:15Thank you very much for your report.
