00:00I must say something. It sounds like a Netflix plot, doesn't it?
00:03All the drama that's happened, because, of course,
00:06Sarah Duterte's father, Rodrigo Duterte, is in The Hague at the moment,
00:11so there's lots of information about all of this happening.
00:16But actually, Catalina, like Sarah said, two years is far away,
00:21but Sarah's going for it, the other Sarah.
00:23She's putting her ring in the hat, yeah, Sarah in the Philippines.
00:26But what's the sentiment on the ground about the elections and about Sarah herself?
00:33So on the ground, it is in politics, as Sarah also said,
00:38it's these two political families and dynasties that are battling out.
00:42So we're seeing this in politics and in the ground.
00:45So obviously in the ground, we're seeing mixed reactions.
00:47So first, what you have, you have her supporters, especially in Amin D'Anau,
00:52among the people who actually are fans and like her father's style of leadership,
00:57they're excited about this presidential bid.
00:59So they see her as a strong, decisive woman that is able to bring back stability and tackle corruption.
01:05So this announcement has actually energized her core supporters in the country,
01:10especially in this area of the Philippines.
01:13And among those who actually feel nostalgic for this tough, called populist style that her father had and that he
01:21became known for.
01:22So early surveys actually say that her political party endorsement suggests she's starting with a strong name recognition that we
01:29know.
01:30So her base believes that she offers a contrast to what the current administration is offering.
01:34So this is one side of the picture, right?
01:36There's always another one.
01:37There's the significant picture that comes with skepticism that comes from her position.
01:42So on the other hand, critics remain skeptical.
01:45Obviously, she has a lot of political troubles going on.
01:48She has corruption, political controversies.
01:51So people are openly questioning her motives.
01:54Why is she running so early?
01:56We have two years to go.
01:58Is this in order to possibly distract from these ongoing political controversies?
02:04So this is what most of her opposition is questioning and being skeptical about.
02:10So then there's also a middle group who is the undecided group that is seeing these two families battle it
02:16out.
02:16And they're still undecided.
02:17I also wanted to mention that the critics also mainly come from student groups to youth movements and also the
02:23opposition party, of course.
02:24So the sentiment, there's excitement from her supporter base, suspicion from opponents.
