A COMPUTER genius has managed to build a full size remote-controlled Corvette that wouldn’t look out of place in the latest Fast and Furious film. Bjorn Harms decided to pursue his childhood dream by creating a full-scale vehicle that can be manoeuvred with just a small remote. Bjorn grew up watching the Back To The Future movies and was mesmerised by Doc racing around the DeLorean without anyone sitting in the driver’s seat. Wanting to emulate this fascinating scene, Bjorn, a computer technician from Urmond, Netherlands, decided to apply his knowledge and expertise to a 2006 Corvette C6 – and he hasn’t looked back since. Bjorn has also built full-scale remote controlled Knight Rider and Back To The Future replicas.

00:00I'm pretty proud of what I've done.
00:03I haven't seen anybody who done exactly the same thing.
00:06This car is fully without control.
00:30This is my 2006 Corvette C6 and it's a full-scale, remote-controlled car and I like it a lot.
00:38This is 34-year-old computer technician Bjorn Harms.
00:42He's built a full-sized, remote-controlled Corvette that wouldn't look out of place in the latest Bond film.
00:51My first idea of building a full-sized, remote-controlled car was by watching Back to the Future when I
00:58was a little kid.
00:59And I always had this idea of, man, when I'm older and I get my first car then I want
01:04to try to make my own full-scale, remote-controlled car.
01:07And that's what I did.
01:11The Corvette is road-legal and even my daily driver.
01:16Two years ago I bought a Corvette C6 and I came up with this idea to make it full-scale,
01:23remote-controlled.
01:24So I had to make a universal motor controller so I could control different types of motors that I've attached
01:31to the controls of the car.
01:32I control the car with my four-channel transmitter.
01:36It controls the braking, the gear changing, the throttle and the steering.
01:41Building the universal motor controller took me around one year.
01:46Then it took me around three months to make a prototype system and it took me another three months to
01:51make a system that was also safe enough to use.
02:18I also made a fail-safe system.
02:20So that means if the car gets out of range of my transmitter, the brakes start braking automatically.
02:34The engine is a V8 six-liter.
02:37It has around 404 horsepower and the top speed is close to 300 kilometers an hour.
02:45Technically it could go that fast remotely but highly unwisely.
02:56The first time I drove the car I felt pretty scary because I was a little bit nervous on would
03:03it actually work properly.
03:06But after testing it, it worked better than I thought.
03:11Most people are very excited and they actually love the project.
03:16But there are also a lot of people that think it's crazy and of course a little bit dangerous.
03:23The entire RC process cost around 3500 euros.
03:29Give or take.
03:30All the Corvette values right now is around 30,000 euros.
03:35Even with the remote control system.
03:37I would consider selling it but mainly so I can start another project again.
03:47I'm pretty sure there's no other Corvette in the world that controls like this one.
03:53I am very proud of what I have done.
