00:03you're not quite getting the distance with a driver that you should be we're going to break
00:07down the simple points at setup and the simple movements that we can make in the swing to start
00:13to optimize the distance for the driver but firstly let's look at the differences between
00:17hitting an iron compared to a driver now an iron the golf ball is on the floor and we typically
00:22need to hit the golf ball with a downward attack angle where we hit the ball and then the turf
00:27after however the driver it's got a lot less loft on it it's on a big tee so we need
00:33to start to hit
00:34up onto that golf ball a little bit more that's going to really help firstly optimize those numbers
00:39to try and carry the ball further and give you a lot more distance let's look at the setup first
00:44so
00:44firstly to really encourage us to create this upward attack angle we're going to have to put the golf
00:50ball further forwards in the stance and when we say forwards it's more towards the target so you can
00:56see what I did there at setup I had the feet close together the ball towards the left foot and
01:01I took
01:01a small step with a left foot and a bigger step with the right foot and you can see how
01:06far forward
01:07now that golf ball position is so it's almost just inside the left heel what I also did is took
01:14a bit
01:14of a wider step so this is going to give us some stability this driver is a lot longer well
01:19it's the
01:19longest club in the bag we swing it a little bit quicker so we need the stability from the ground
01:25you can see already as I move the golf ball position forwards in the stance how my shoulders have now
01:31tilted and to just to just to be weary of here as we move the golf ball forward in the
01:37stance what
01:38typically happens is our shoulders start to point a little bit more to the left what often we see with
01:45with instruction with driver is that we need to tilt a lot more towards the right side so the right
01:51shoulder gets nearer to the right pocket but what happens when we move the ball position forwards is
01:56that the shoulders point more left so we have to counteract that just by sitting the right shoulder
02:02back so don't worry too much about sitting your right shoulder down so that's a couple of points
02:07at setup ball position forwards wider stance we're going to softly sit this right shoulder down
02:12and now we're ready to launch this driver a really easy point that we can do with the motion now
02:19is
02:20maybe think about how we load into this backswing to help optimize the attack angle so what a really
02:27good little simple point you can do is imagine the chest center of the chest the sternum or the zip
02:33through the middle of my top here is actually working more towards the right foot here I quite often
02:39see with people with drivers that they'll lean into the golf ball this way and that really is going
02:45to encourage that downward hit the ball's going to spin too much it's typically going to slice off to
02:50the right as well so let's give those points a go so ball position forward wider stance just softly sit
02:57in
02:57that right shoulder down and I'm going to encourage my chest to rotate and work more towards the right foot
03:03you can see that motion there is really bringing this club into the golf ball on that upward attack
03:10angle let's give these a go
03:19okay so we can see there the ball was brushed off the tee not much contact with the tee peg
03:25there
03:25and you can really see how my body was really working towards the right side almost gearing myself up
03:32to let these arms go so really simple points that you can take away there for the driver to start
03:37maximizing the distance a nice drill that you can do to furtherly encourage that upward attack angle
03:43you can simply do with a head cover now everybody's got a head cover that they can use or a
03:48glove or
03:49perhaps a tee peg in the way so we're going to take the head cover and we're going to put
03:53it just maybe
03:54one foot past the golf ball on the target line and I really want you to just flatten that down
03:59there
03:59okay so you can really start to build the picture for how this is going to start to increase this
04:05attack angle if I get this wrong I'm going to start to lean left I'm going to hit down onto
04:10that golf
04:10ball and my golf club post impact is going to carry through and you're going to batter that head cover
04:15so let's make sure that we put those setup points in play we're going to get over to the right
04:20side and
04:20we're going to try and sweep that golf ball off the tee and avoid hitting that head cover let's give
04:25it a go
04:26ball position forward wider stance just sit in that right shoulder down moving to the right
04:34and avoiding that head cover
