00:00Tonight, prayers continue to pour in for civil rights icon Jesse Jackson.
00:04Since he was admitted to Northwestern Memorial Hospital on Wednesday,
00:08we are learning about his status through his family and their posts on social media.
00:12Charlie Wojciechowski has more.
00:14For a second day, Jesse Jackson Sr. remains under observation here at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
00:21His son, Jesse Jr., posting this picture to Facebook yesterday,
00:25saying he was spending the night with his dad and praying for him.
00:28One man can change the world, he said, a theme he repeated this afternoon on his KBLA radio program.
00:35We can measure him by politics, but we're going to have to look and reflect upon the life of Jesse
00:39Jackson
00:40far more comprehensively than as a politician.
00:44This was a genuine public servant who came in the world with nothing
00:50and is going to leave the world with far more than the world he has ever taken anything from.
00:57Jackson was diagnosed in April with a rare neurological disorder PSP,
01:02or progressive supranuclear palsy, a disease similar to Parkinson's
01:07that affects a patient's eye movements, speech, and balance.
01:10A majority of his patients will end up in a wheelchair with significant mobility disorders
01:15within the four or five years of their diagnosis.
01:17But for those who worked with Jackson, they are remembering the good work he has already done.
01:23I'm wishing him the best.
01:25He's been a friend of mine for over 50 years.
01:27We've worked together all over the state, in Carroll, Illinois, in East St. Louis, Springfield, Chicago,
01:33and in other places as well.
01:36Jesse Jackson is my friend.
01:37For now, Jesse Jackson Jr. posts that he and his brother are providing care to their father
01:41in 24-hour shifts, where he finds new ways to communicate with his family and friends.
01:47Having this diagnosis as now in the forefront in public
01:51will create awareness for rare neurological disorders, including PSP,
01:57and I think that's very important.
02:00At Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Charlie Wojciechowski, NBC5 News.
